What if the child is shy? My son is 5. Gets shy when he is called in a public place and at times struggles to look into the eyes when spoken to. When it’s something that interest him, he will look at you and have a perfect conversation. He struggles when friends say hi at school from a distance. He hides and avoids interacting when in Public

Hello It appears that your son does not feel confident in talking to a group of people. It is not eye contact, but a need to help him socialise more by taking him for more outings and allowing him to interact with people directly. Some children just rake time in adjusting to this. Please give him time and keep boosting his confidence.

Hello Please try to interact with the child while he is playing himself by participating in games like cars, ball, water play, etc based on his interest. It is important that we show interest in their play before they respond to us.

Hello mam mera beta 3 years old hai vo jab us ko koi chiz leni ho ja kush kaam ho tab eye contact krta hai but jab mai usko bulau tab bahut kam eye contact krta hai and apni baat vo krta to hai but agar mai iski age k bacho se compare Karu isko to vo jada active hai . Hello If your child is 3 months old, pleasw do not expect a constant and continuous eye contact as they only look at people or things that get thrir attention and get distracted easily. Try interacting using toys or facial expressions than just saying his name.

Yes the response remains upto 50-60% till 1 year of age following which it becomes more consistent. As your baby is only 3 months, it is natural to respond to the mother most and the ones who regularly interact with the child compared to others.

Hello. I think I need help like this. My 2 year old kid wont play with other kids other than her sister who is 1 year old. Playing if they are watching on a single tablet. Even tho I call him by his name he wont look but he responds to the command or request I ask especially if my voice is in high tone due to things he do is dangerous, but he wont look back. When he is stressed he looks for things a toy or a thing that he can hold both of his hands. We are planning to enroll him to special ed class cause we think hes just a late bloomer. Even in face level he avoids eye contact. Theres so many things i think he behaves wrong. Is my child on somewhat spectrum within autism? Thanks for ur response.

Hello As you mentioned, his social and language skills are limited. But a 2 year old is still too young to be said to have autism. It will depend on any specific senaory behaviours, emotional skills, play skills and motor skills.

As the child is responding to screen and favorite rhymes and not to you, I would like to suggest you to discontinue use of rhymes by screen and try to sing and do actions to gain eye contact, attention to you and social interaction. Secondly, guide hands of your baby for doing actions for songs. Thirdly, try involving him with an alterante game like ball rolling towards him, showing him books with big pictures, hand or finger puppets for language skills of how you talk and interact; also colourful and bright toys to grt him interested by following them or showing his hand to ask for the toy.

Hello Usually visual fixation takes 3-4 months to develop. Try to show him cot mobile, rattles to get him interested.

@dazzlind9941 As I mentioned this age is too young to call it a lack of eye contact. Infants get distracted easily by bright and moving stimuli than static stimuli. Please give him time.

Har bachhe apna time leta hai learning mein. Usmein koi delay nahi hai thoda social interaction kam tha pehle screen zyada dekhne se. Ab wo respond kar rahi hai. Jitna aap uske sath play karenge aur socialize karenge utna jaldi uski speech bhi badh jayegi. Don't worry 🙂

Hello Many children with autism are not comfortable with sustained eye contact. Kindly rather than forcing it, focus on helping her socialise like using goggles, letting her talk at her own pace, giving her time to process information, etc.
