Pediatricians and GP’s only know what drug reps tell them. My sister was put on Concerta and Zoloft in 1988. She had zero parental supervision in taking these meds. Very quickly she learned how to abuse them to moderate her weight. With in 6 months she added illegal drugs to the mix. Her had officially gotten on the addiction/psychiatric medication treadmill. Her life was ruled by these drugs. She died from a Fentanyl overdose during lockdown. It is impossible to die twine her story from the “safe” medications she was proscribed at 12. You are right. These meds were applied in lieu of addressing negligent parenting.
