Brampton gets too much hate. Raised in Brampton (lived over 20 years) and I'm happy to call it home. Are there things that Brampton needs to improve, of course, just like every city. I rate Brampton because it was a city where many minorities were able to come here and build a legacy with their families with homeownership in Canada. The fact that we have many of the complaints have come from Brampton residents, we all have to be part of the change instead of passing the blame on other ethnic or social groups.

Currently a resident. Traffic and Insurance is crazy, there aren't enough schools in the area to support the population growth, and an underfunded and understaffed hospital. There's good food but they are overshadowed by inconveniences to get there. Every day, there's an accident right outside my street. It also gets really noisy in neighborhoods because of of car meets.

I lived in Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton. I prefer Brampton because for me it was cheaper groceries, great neighborhoods and I was able to focus more. As a mom though I would have prefer a lot more resources for my children...alot more support. My children felt alone when it comes to friendships and community and so did I. As an adult I could handle it by keeping busy but my children was having a difficult time. The pandemic made it even more difficult. 2021 I no longer live in Brampton with my children.

When I ask my Brampton friends how high school was like they said it was 50% Punjabis and 50% West Indians. the Punjabis stuck to themselves and the West Indians mixed with everyone else. Even Goans chilled with other cultures.

Born and raised in Brampton (45+ years). All the things people claim to hate about Brampton, happens in most large Ontario suburban, and urban cities, so the cheap shots we get make no sense. In my neighborhood, we look out for each other, and greet each other. As mentioned in your story, we have beautiful parks, trails, and other recreation (e.g. Tree Top Trekking at Heart Lake Conservation Area). There's a great arts and culture scene. TBH, we lack entertainment, but there’s improvement with events/shows like The Festival of Literary Diversity, A Tribute to the Legends of Reggae, World of Jazz Festival, Jambana, Pride, etc. Also, as mentioned in your story, so many creatives, athletes, entrepreneurs, etc., came out of Brampton. For example, Trey Anthony, Jael Richardson, Alessia Cara, Director X, Orlando Bowen, Russel Peters, Michael Cera, Rupi Kaur, Jessie Reyez, Jonny Reid, Kadeisha Buchanan, and so many more!

I'm reading the comments and some of you are right. People are avoiding the real reason why people hate Brampton.......it's the lack of diversity. Let's be honest....Brampton is not as "multicultural" as we would like to think. Just because it's not predominately white, doesn't make it diverse. Those who are not south asian experience a lot of racism in Brampton.

Another point... Brampton is not a multicultural city, it is a placist city. Meaning that certain areas in the city are designated for the place you come from, versus integrating into a multicultural society. If you examine how the city is structured, many parts are centered around a placist object that individuals gravitate to live around versus integrating with one another. And from an urban study perspective, placist communities are a detriment to sociological growth. Feel free to reach out, more than happy to talk about this more :)

It really starts at home ignorance needs to be countered with knowledge. Maybe with this video Brandon is doing he can advocate for schools and anti racism programs. I don’t even think their parents are educated many are in business but never went to school or they were farmers. Who’s educating them? The news? Social media? The schools should find a way so parents can connect with other parents. Learning about other cultures helps to make you more well rounded as an individual and grow. It’s really their loss at the end of the day when their kids grow up it’s not realistic when they go enter the workforce. Punjabis makeup 20% of Brampton. There’s still 80% that are not. The workforce is not always one culture. Cultural segregation/low key racism shouldn’t be tolerated

That and every time I drive through there are tons of crashes, twice cars just chilling on their roofs. Tre & Jae are right. I was in one of their videos a long while back and they're absolutely right about needing more creative spaces. Brampton is a great city, I've lived here 23 years of my life, but when it comes to being creative, you gotta make do with what you have available to you. People hating on Brampton let social media influence them. They don't visit the city in fears that what they hear on social media is actually true. If you put that aside and actually come and eat at a few restaurants here, sit outside around some of the small parks or benches, walk through the Etobicoke Creek Trail... You'd probably change your mind. By no means is any city perfect, but I'm glad I spent most of my life here, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Also... First dates - J. Red & Co. Their restaurant is one of my all time faves.

That is true. You are not racist for saying what the facts are. I once had a White friend who claimed that all her White friends left Brampton because it was being overrun by a particular group of people which they hated. They complained about the language and above all, the smell associated with this group. This former friend of mine also passionately hates this group of people. As a Black person whose people have experienced racial hatred, I reminded her that these are human beings that God created. Her response was the nail in the coffin of our relationship. She said, "I don't care who made them, I hate them and can't stand being around them." I am sure that's how some of her friends feel about Black people. Heck, I am cognizant of the fact that Indians hate Black people too. However, I choose to be light in the darkness, to love even those who hate me. I choose to bless those who curse me. Afterall, we will reap the rewards of the seeds we've cultivated.

I have lived in Brampton since 2012, and as a white, English speaking Canadian living here, it is from my OWN observations of Brampton that the cultural diversity is leaning far more to the majority side of people from India or Pakistan with far less white, natural English speaking people living here (By natural i mean English as their first language) The only languages i hear when im out and about, are everything BUT English these days. Very few if any fast food places are staffed by anyone other than people from India, the loud muffler cars, insurance fraud, lack of Canadian cultural values, the discrimination when it comes to renting to anyone other than someone from India (I have encountered this numerous times). Sadly, for me at least, Brampton does NOT feel like my home, it feels more like another country and with that personal feeling, it makes me ready to leave here. Im all for cultural diversity and multi-cultural living, but Brampton is becoming less multi-cultural, and more single-culture (India, Pakistan) These are jus my own thoughts on Brampton.

Brampton AKA Flowertown was a really beautiful peaceful community many years ago . Without going into the intricate details about how our city has changed or how it's "boonie " reputation has died , it's the laughing stock of the GTA. It's become a place where people feel comfortable throwing litter out of their car window ( dirty diapers , pop cans , etc ) Car insurance in Brampton is the highest in Canada, why ? because license buying is the norm . People who can't drive a damn donkey cart now drive cars , trucks , etc . Walk into any bank or business institution for that matter and you will smell the stench of NEPOTISM. Employment opportunities are few and far between if you don't have a relative within the organization to bring you on board. Where did all the great eateries go ?A person can count on one hand how many Italian, Greek , Chinese, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Latin restaurants there are in this City . Can you say MONOPOLY boys and girls ? Look , I better stop because I can go on and on ....don't even get me started on the one , so called, "hospital " shit show slaughterhouse Brampton Civic. In conclusion, I miss my City. I miss the camaraderie amongst neighbors. Most of all , I miss the people I went to school with ( they're all in Barrie and Cambridge, lol ! ) May God Bless them.

I've been here 12 years and at first I liked it but over the years I've come to strongly dislike it. Its drivers are crazy, to much crime, and can not go anywhere without being harassed by bums, and beggers. If you tell them you don't carry cash they get rude and I've had them spit on me. I've seen a lot of cultures but everyone is in there own groups. I've come from the east coast and I'm use to friendly people but when I say thank you its a forgotten thing.

Let’s be real. I too am an immigrant, but my family has never tried to convert Canada like the people in brampton have. I hate going shopping in Brampton and having to smell the people around me. I hate being in Brampton on the road with people who don’t know how to drive I hate being in brampton around people who think that they’re owed something. I hate Brampton because every time we hire somebody from there ends up a massive disappointment and believe me we’ve gone through a lot of Brampton people. and they just don’t seem to want to work or try to make the community a better place they don’t give they only take. I hate the crime spills out of Brampton into surrounding cities. I hate that people in brampton pack into a house, many families, and then when there’s a fire and people die and lose their life, I hate all the illegal apartments. I hate the ignorance I hate that people in Brampton don’t upkeep their properties and after moving into a home they just let it decay, I hate the people in Brampton don’t know what a lawnmower is. I hate that people in Brampton hang nipple tassels off the bumpers of the cars. I hate that Brampton is part of Canada.

It is scary to comment without having a frame of reference and mine is that cities like countries are "ditches" not in an impolite sense but to highlight that some have flies, some have rats, some come with hammocks the takeaway being that no city , country or individual is perfect. So where have you lived was it perfect where you came from? I came from " sea and sand " and I would say perfect ! hell no. If I restricted myself to Canada I have lived in Mississauga> New Brunswick > Nova Scotia> Winnipeg> Charlottetown >Brampton in that order. Where I mention provinces is because the town were very small as in Blacks Harbour and Annapolis valley .And no I was not military. Brampton for me is scerene, I love the people, the food, the easy pace and the fact that it's the closest thing I have seen to an integrated society. What we need is to overhaul the mindset in city hall, yes get a university, relocate the downtown and build a world class sports stadium and it's not so much a case of getting a new hospital we have 1.5 counting the repurposes old location; what we need is a best in class triage meaning that first contact when you arrive and need help the most. The layout, interview approach, seating and follow up is all wrong Build 6 hospitals and retain the existing triage and there will still be complaints however in this regard Brampton is not unique.

Brampton is the armpit of the GTA (c) GTA realtor. Just because you see different cultures doesn’t mean they integrate. I moved to Brampton from Mississauga and I was at Bramlea City Centre and I saw blatant racism. A black girl looked at a Punjabi girl was like “ewwww” mind you they were young. There wouldn’t indifference if there was connection. The Punjabis only stick to themselves. I never see a Punjabi hang out with the West Africans, West Indians, Filipinos, etc but the groups they separate themselves chill together. Punjabis are really kind and sweet. .A lot of them are students and don’t know any better. My boyfriend is Punjabi so I have don’t have any bad against them I’m just commenting on what I see. I go to Square One in Mississauga and everyone mixes. You’ll see the black girl dating the Chinese guy with their East Indian friend. Brampton has the latest community centres and developments but lacks community (mixing). “A house is not home” meaning the infrastructure/physical resources are there but there’s lacking a connection between different communities/cultures. They’ll say they’re not racist then I love would to see them bring their non Punjabi friends to there Punjabi family parties. You would never see that. You can see when you go to the parks, house parties, etc. Yeah I’m singling out the Punjabis because the Goans and Pakistanis will mix but they are few in Brampton. My Nigerian friend and I went to their beloved King Tandoori and the restaurant goers were staring at my friend like “ why are you here?”. It made my friend uncomfortable and obviously didn’t want to go back. It’s funny because you can have the same restaurants in Brampton as with Mississauga and people would love to go to the Mississauga ones. Just today I was at Nightmarket at sq1 for the food trucks and it was raining/hailing and these West Indian women saw me and shared their umbrella and when they left, a Filipino guy helped me. The same West Indian ladies came back and offered to chill in their car while I waited. That’s love! One time when I was in high school I was waiting for a Mississauga bus and it was a snow storm and this middle aged black woman pulled over to offer me a ride home. She didn’t care that I wasn’t black she genuinely just cared. I never see that in Brampton except hearing stories of people who hitchhike. Also people here can’t drive because they don’t teach the rules in driving school and there’s a lot of witchcraft (Punjabi secret).

I think if you've never lived anywhere else, you wouldn't see the issue with Brampton. Even if you grew up in Brampton and moved away, you could probably appreciate it when you go back...The end of this video basically explains it all, when the two men were asked where to go for a date. Brampton is like that movie where you watch a person in small town America trying to leave for Hollywood to aspire for greatness. Brampton is great if you just came to Canada or if you are a new family, etc. If you have any type of ambition, it would be in your best interest to leave. A lot of Bramptonians don't even work in Brampton. The ratio between houses and...jobs, stores, business, schools, transit, entertainment etc. is way off. Property in Brampton is becoming more expensive, when the main draw before was that property was cheap. Property prices are going up everywhere, but the difference is that Brampton has high property taxes and high insurance rates (car accidents like CRAZY). If my family and friends didn't live in Brampton, I would try my hardest not to go back. The Police have always been a problem in Brampton and seem to create issues instead of solving them. Now that the crime has risen, maybe the police can actually do some police work (Like Toronto Police)instead of just harassing people.

Live in Brampton for most my life & hate it. Nothing ever works & is usually broken, price of living (car insurance / housing tax) is high for such a crappy city. I know it's high everywhere but if you're going to spend a lot it should at least be worth the money. Driving is insanely dangerous & everytime you make it home alive it's an unusually big accomplishment. City planning is all about fostering bribes to ensure there's only ever 1 mall & no new university as was in the planning. Street lights are designed to ensure you're late because you catch every red light. Maybe it's done to prevent accidents but that backfires; because if driving the speed limit means waiting at every red light it causes many drivers to now speed up to beat the lights. Crime rising by the minute, used to see cops once in a blue moon in my neighborhood now they're on my street weekly. Contrary to propaganda it's not diverse, depending on your definition of the word. Lots of food choices? Where are they dining? Restaurants here are generally the same, you've got 3 staple fast food joints & all other actual restaurants are just carbon copy menus of the same type of food. I can only think of 1 actual dine in Italian restaurant for example. And oh boy expect disappointments at our fast food places. Tim Hortons here only ever prepares the staple things on the menu. I remember a friend from North York was giving me a ride home & he was craving some Timmy's I warned him wait till you're out of Brampton or you'll waste your time. He didn't take my advice, sure enough everything he asked for they were out of, out of frustration he eventually had to ask, "What DO you have?!" I was laughing so hard he eventually had to give up & just get a standard coffee. Another time I needed to buy a Remembrance Day poppy, used to be you could almost always find them at Timmy's. Well I went to 3 Timmy's & they didn't even know what I was talking about, had to speak to a manager who apologized & said they didn't, then had to educate her staff on what a poppy was. Same friend I invited to watch a movie at Silvercity (Our biggest theatre), he asked me what kind of ghetto place is this? Said grass isn't even growing properly on the lawn & the parking lot was filthy. He was actually scared for his life going to & from the car, thought we'd get robbed & as aforementioned he's not a country bumpkin. He also grew up in Brazil, where crime can be high, so to see him so scared I started to worry that maybe I should be too. Been to 2 Pizza Huts on 2 separate Friday evenings that were out of pizza dough?! Out of pizza dough on a Friday evening? Most people buy pizza on weekends. Monday maybe is excusable. Been to a KFC that ran out of chicken, it's in your name! Potential for 2 hospitals but they closed 1 down when they opened the new one. The new one had an urban myth that they accidentally amputated the wrong leg, not sure how true that is. But for the population we need 2 full hospitals here. They made the old hospital years later into a mini hospital. Heard they are finally going to upgrade it back into a full hospital, but they also did say we'd have another mall & university by now, so can't trust the propaganda. Mississauga, Oakville, Milton are all superior cities. Toronto is overrated so don't worry I'm not one of those Toronto yuppies that think / act like they live in NYC. So the inevitable question is why not just move out? Trust me I'm working on it, I will gladly let the door hit me on the way out. I'll even say, good riddance to myself to accommodate the Brampton lovers. (((Edit: Irony, same day I posted this I went to an A&W in Brampton & guess what, out of fries LMAO. Brampton franchise owners carry low supplies to save money.)))

To many people living in one house , producing excessive garbage , overflowing perfect conditions to keep the ever increasing rat population! I street is used for excess garbage , and the lice infested mattress's and furniture , took a while to figure out how come these items were often on the boulavards, lol. And the noisy cars , residential streets turned into race tracks. Shootings are normal OMG , the police and 311 can't handle all the complaints. No wonder there is white flight!! I am leaving and moving out of the area. I used to like Brampton ! It has earned it's reputation , slum town , dangerous , dirty etc .
