Cant really say hes a rapper. Hes kind of in the middle between pop and hip hop like Drake or j cole for example. Thing is that Russ has great songs and anyone can tell he is objectively very talented, but lacks substance and grace in his songs, lyrics, as well as off the air. I've been a Russ fan for at least two, maybe two and a half years, so I don't know much about his come up but I've watched him blow up. I can tell you a few things that I've seen as a hip-hop fan about Russ: He rose to prominence from the ground up, the internet definitely helped him find his audience (Check out how he blew up after being on Swagytracks) but he spent about 7 to 8 years grinding in Atlanta and the Southeast before people took notice. Unlike rappers like Desiigner and Lil (Insert name here) who release one album, song, or mixtape and blow up. So he's learned a lot, grinded a lot, and seen a lot of BS in the industry. That being said, he is definitely conceited and arrogant. The man talks about selling out tours without any openers, yet I've been to his show that featured an opener. He talks about how nobody is doing what he's done. That's BS, it's like Lil Dicky saying he's the only one to do comedy rap despite Eminem making comedy songs like My Band in the early 2000s. But at the end of the day Russ makes great music, he's put out more free music than most artist create in their entire career, and he actually seems like a caring guy that takes care of his family. I think the moral of the story is, if you do something for a decade and finally succeed, you'll probably talk yourself up a lot too.

No one in hip hop really hates Russ, it's just every day people who jump on every hate bandwagon that becomes trendy. Corny Mfers tried convincing everyone to hate JCole for a little bit too and that backfired and as soon as Cole started dropping good music again. The reason Russ cant completely kill off his narrative is because his music is too mediocre even if he drops a good song every now and then. That being said, it is pretty apparent no one in the industry fucks with Russ but that's probably cause they see past the image of him trying to be someone hes not. Very clear he was and still is some weird kid who never really fit in and worked hard in music as way to do so. We see this all the time in Hip Hop so there's nothing wrong with that, what makes Russ corny is the fact that he talks more than he delivers. Hes the definition of a try hard and goes to crazy lengths to convince you of something without actually doing it. Again there's nothing wrong with being confident and having an ego, this is the rap game after all but you cant talk like you're Pac when your music isnt that good. The only reason Russ is even a thing is because hes been doing this for years. Even if you're trash, if you do it long enough, you will eventually gain followers. I just hope one day Russ gets off "this fuck everyone" mentality if he wants to change public perception and have longevity.
