My son also has CKD and had a vesicostomy as well as a ruptured bladder when he was a baby. We did the same thing. Pad across the top to catch all the pee. It was kind of bulky but it worked! He got his vesicostomy closed when he was around 2 years old but we still go see a urologist and nephrologist regularly.

Most likely because the US health care system is all about profit, and companies would have to charge thousands per diaper to make large profits demanded by shareholders when there are only a small amount of patients needing any medicine or special diaper, as I assume there are only a very small number of babies with these issues. Thankfully, but that does screw patients and their families who have very rare issues. Just not any way for companies to make large profits from the small amount of patients needing a special diaper for this need. Yeah, US capitalized medicine!!

I may be wrong, but would probably be considered a medical supply and be so extremely expensive because diaper companies wouldn’t be able to make custom diapers for every child. This is the cheaper option.

Our son had a ureterostomy as well. We became quite adept at positioning that poise pad in the right spot to avoid leaks. 😂 He had to have a transplant when he was 11. Now he's 17 and 6ft tall! Blessings to you and your family.

I use disposable diapers with a heavy pad like that for my disabled dog. I use a reusable diaper around the other two. It works great!

I found that Booster pads,( not just for baby diapers, those are smaller. ) Carewell has Booster pads ( I don't work for them) But it helped my Mom, who had lost her ability to hold her urine due to her Parkinsons.They are pretty thick, really thick. They will hold alot of liquid that will then flow through to the diaper. It doesnt have a liner, not meant for use by itself. But it will contain alot more than just a single diaper. Funny how so often you need to figure things out yourself. There is no manual . But sounds like you have found what works. I appreciate your experiences. Your sharing how you manuever through all of this for your precious little boy.

Oh hey by the way if you need to increase the absorbency of a diaper try using booster pads. Diapers are waterproof while a booster pad allows water to flow right through. As for extended coverage area idk if there’s anything for that. But yeah booster pads are better for helping absorbency. You can also try using “nighttime” diapers as those are usually more absorbent. Anyways I wish you all luck.

Cloth diapers make a cool extender for boys who pee through. I use them on disposable diapers too when I think he’s over tired and may sleep for more than 8hours. They hurt the environment a little less

I suffer with incontinence issues. I have found that the walmart brand of incontinence pads seems to be better for leak prevention, etc. I use the night time ones. Plus they are cheaper than poise, always and tena pads. Part of my issues stems from my diabetes affecting my bladder and from pinched nerves in my lower back.

Have you tried using PUL diaper covers over the diaper? Might help protect clothes from getting wet although you'll still have to use the diapers/pads. PUL waterproof covers are what go over cloth diapers to protect clothes from getting wet. Theyre reusable and are washed and dried like clothes. I cloth diapered my 4 kids and love summer time when they can just wear their diaper/covers without pants.

Look up a cloth diaper cover. It’s a type of cloth diaper that is made of PUL (basically a water resistant “fabric”). Typically these go over an absorbable material to keep the pee from leaking through, but you can definitely put it over a disposable diaper as well to help keep clothes dry! I used to cloth diaper, but even now that my kid is potty trained I still put a cover over her underwear if we’re doing a lot of traveling so if an accident happens her clothes aren’t wet😊
