Nice video. I feel like it was a nice idea adding Monty to the pack. They have 4 machines that can dig, Jack, Alfie, Ned and Oliver. Imagine how many trips it would take Max to get a whole area cleaned from dirt and rocks. It would take longer to clean up at a site with one dump truck.

What I believe disproves this theory is that The Unlucky Tug mentions in the same video that “all of the model vehicles were made in 2002 although not all used in the pilot” and all of us know that Nic mostly speak facts in his content

That is interesting. I guess lore wise it can be assumed that Max was purchased by the Sodor Construction Company before Monty. Then as the fleet needed to expand they bought more vehicles (including Monty).

Max & Monty are my favorite Pack members. It's because they're both comedic and they represent that truck drivers can be rather careless. Without these two morons, it wouldn't be The Pack. My theory and headcanon on why Monty wasn't introduced in Jack Jumps in and A Friend In Need is when Monty would've been stuck at the construction yard, getting his wheels, axles, and tires fixed up after having an accident by crashing into a pile of rocks Max had dumped in his path without paying any attention.

I bet if they could, Hit Entertainment would rewrite “Jack Jumps In” and “A Friend In Need” to include both Max AND Monty, and maybe the other Pack members that were not introduced, yet.

This theory feels weird to me. I always assumed that Jack and the Pack was pretty far in production when HiT bought Gullane. I’d be surprised if Monty was made after the acquisition although this is an interesting thought now that I think about it.

I’m not sure how far into production gullane was but it wasn’t that far because hit cancelled half of the episode BEFORE starting their production 🤷‍♂️

I think the reason Nigel was cancelled was to accommodate Thomas or Percy in every episode. Most of their appearances show them carrying members of the Pack on low loaders/well wagons. There's NO way Nelson could do his job without help.

Realistically, I don't think you'd need concept art for a character who looks identical to another. It's obvious they had him in mind at least, due to the numbering scheme still being seen in the concept art.

@TTTEoliverFan Exactly, yet they likely had an idea for them considering everyone has their numbers in their concepts. The gaps were likely characters they were planning to introduce later, like Nigel being 21. They probably just didn't feel the need to use Monty in the first two episodes as the main focus was Jack and they only needed one of the twins to act as his "antagonist" for the introductory episodes. Who really knows though.

Aside from having no number 13, The Pack also seems to have no numbers 1-9, no number 20, and unless you count Nigel, no number 21. Not to mention, Buster and Darcy seem to have no numbers at all. Why do you suppose all that is the case?
