It’s a good safe idea, with the trailer having a empty or near empty load it would reduce drag from the extra wheels running, It reduced wear on the air lift axle as it won’t be down all the time, talking about being more agile, it would be a lot more nimble and responsive to the drivers driving, especially when the driver is operating the unit and trailer in very tight circumstances. Thanks for showing us this video.. it expanded my knowledge just a little bit more. Phil..🇬🇧

I believe in the US, lift axles are used for two primary purposes. The first application is in on/off highway applications like dump trucks, cement mixers, and garbage trucks. the extra axle is lowered off road to provide a lower ground pressure, increasing off road mobility. The other application is on specialized heavy hauling and rigging operations. There the lift axles are only lowered when the rig is loaded, to keep the weight on each axle within the limits. Once unloaded, the lift axles are raised to reduce the number of wheels in contact wit the road. Both have something to do with the way trucks are generally treated in the US, where tolls, road taxes, registration and other fees are typically computed largely based on the number of wheels on the road. And atypical configurations are sort of frowned on. Looking at European truck practice, I think they must be using a very different philosophy for axle loading and configuration.

@KroneTrailer
@KroneTrailer 3 жыл бұрын

To my knowledge the trailer isn't eben sold in the US, so DOT (US Department of Transportation) is irrelevant. But yes, complementary to lifting the axle they also offer systems to balance the load of each axle. It's called DWC.

@danielrose1392
@danielrose1392 Жыл бұрын

And what about the brake pads for the front wheel with the brake calipers, is this special? Haha
@dennisthum1499
@dennisthum1499 11 ай бұрын
No they will brake too, but it doesn't matter because there is no spinning wheel so no wear on the pads and calipers. It's even better if they aren't on full brake because if there's a bump in the road the tire can spin. If it's on full lock the tire will wear so much and the truck can get unstable for a moment
