Why Does Serbia Want To Join BRICS?

A junior partner in Serbia's ruling coalition, the Socialist Movement led by intelligence chief Aleksandar Vulin, submitted an initiative to parliament to join the BRICS group, rather than pursing EU accession. Vulin's proposal followed a similar call from Milorad Dodik, the president of the Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He said he would propose Bosnian membership to BRICS, claiming it would be faster than trying to join the EU. Both Vulin and Dodik are sanctioned by the US, and have close ties with Russia. The moves come after the BRICS announced last month it would expand to take in several new members.

Shouldn't they then respect the democratic will of the people? The Serbian nation wants to join BRICS, support for Russia is over 80% and they said that support for EU integration is 35%, but the same survey showed that 44% of people are explicitly against it.

Your making it sound like out of the roughly around (7 million of Serbian population) that more than half of that wants to work in EU?very funny. There are of course some who do, maybe you should ask them that question of why they want to work there, not me. Majority of Serbs are not pro EU either, and we never will be pro EU. And as far as i am concerned, in regards to joining EU? Serbia should hold a referendum and see once and for all if it wants to join or not. And if the answer to that is no? Then EU should stop bothering us and sticking their noses in Serbia's affairs and business. Simply, they should mind their own business.

But I agree with you and your point. Serbia to enter in EU or Brics should have referendum and then we will see what the majority says. That’s the best answer and conclusion of our discussion. Idi ti gde hoćeš da zaradiš pare to je tvoja lična stvar i lična stvar svakog ali Srbija treba da se priključi BRIKSu a ne Evropskoj Uniji jel kao prvo evropska unija nas ucenjuje i traži da ispunjavamo uslove koje su ponižavajući i realno tamo nas ne žele jel da nas žele već bi bili članovi, preko 20 godina čekamo da uđemo, i nije nam mesto tamo.

Prvo , ljudi idu i u Rusiju da zarade pare , ali uglavnom kvalifikovani i oni sa nekim planom za biznis i ima ih dosta (samo ne dolaze svaki drugi vikend kući , kao ovi iz Evrope). Drugo , Što se Nemačke i Austrije (i Slovenije, u mnogo manjoj meri) tiče , to je stvar relativne blizine i tradicije još od 60-ih godina prošlog veka i velikog broja ex Jugovića , pa se lakše ljudi snalaze za posao i ostalo , čak i ne znajući jezik (poznajem neke koji su tamo preko 20 godina i još uvek mogu da komuniciraju na nemačkom jeziku samo na osnovnom nivou , a i nije potrebno više , jer uglavnom rade na najnižim radnim mestima , a skoro uvek ima neko da prevede šta treba da se radi). Pare mogu da zarade samo visoko kvalifikovani i oni koji imaju svoj biznis , a ne radnici u lageru , pošti , dostavi , čišćenju i slično. Takođe , ima naših ljudi i u Južnoj Africi i Brazilu i Kini i Australiji i Novom Zelandu i svuda negde daleko , a zbog udaljenosti , ne mogu da žive kao gastarbajteri - jednom nogom ovde , drugom tamo. Ulaskom u EU se situacija neće poboljšati za one koji i daje žive ovde (ni za državu uopšteno , osim za političku elitu) , kao što nije ni u Rumuniji i Bugarskoj (mislim na neki značajan porast životnog standarda) , samo im je malo poboljšana infrastruktura (EU fondovi) a plate baš i nisu , koliko su porasli troškovi. Baš nas i ne žele tamo , jer su sa Rumunijom i Bugarskom dobili izlaz na Crno more , a kada se Crna Gora odvojila od Srbije , dalje ih ništa ne interesuje , osim jeftine radne snage i prirodnih resursa , a to mogu i bez učlanjenja da uzmu (i uzimaju). Inače dobre zanatlije , mogu ovde (u većim gradovima) da zarade i više nego u Nemačkoj , radeći za gazdu , sa mnogo manjim troškovima .

At the same time, Romania and the others are developing faster, reducing unemployment and receiving a lot of subsidies and contributions from EU. It's definitely a win-win situation. Good luck partnering with China India and Brazil....
