I think people either heard or had an idea in their heads about how to preach and counsel. Though many don't stop to think if it was them what would they do in that situation, people are always quick to judge. There are shaykh's, teachers, etc . who ask for money for courses even and I personally never had an issue and I was one of those who paid and benefited and I ask Allah swt to reward them because I and many of us could never even do 1/4 of what they do. I have thought of paying for a class with Sh. Assim but I don't know if he just does marriage counseling or he isn't just limited to marriage counseling. May Allah swt reward Sh. Assim for all those he has helped foe thr sake of ALLAH swt. Ameen.

I feel that the time is not for free and it is not cheap either. i have been following Sheikh Assim for years and he is a very nice person and i learn a lot from him. It is not fair asking him to do counseling for free. You can just try asking a Raqi to do Ruqya for free. In UK they charge £‎75 person section. We must be realistic not be a beggar asking everything to be done for free.

Sheikh, it is extremely important how you are earning your rizk. The pious predecessors very very deligent about it. This is not the justification you are putting forth. People are desperate and they want to pay. The question is, are you qualified. Obviously not. You don’t have any formal training as an OCD counselor if you are then please clarify and forgive me. If you fear Allah you simply refuse people tell them you are not qualified. Now if you are entertaining them, then you can no way charge them. It is haram in that context.

The people will keep booking him over and over if it is cheaper, this is bad for them because it is reassurance and reassurance keeps the cycle of OCD strong. I am one of those people who have OCD and had a session with him a few months back. I kept it to one session because of the price and I am truly grateful. Any less than that then I would probably try to book a session every other day for relief and this can also prevent other people from being able to see him who have issues major than mine and keep me in the OCD loop. He has countless advice all over social media that he gives away for free. Also if you truly can not afford, he gives one free session, you just have to testify to Allah that you can not afford it and he will give it to you.
