The Weeknd is nostalgic in his musical sound and style but feels fresh and new with his unique voice. He really captures the edge and thrill of the sounds that encapsulate a time period, sound or feeling. Bruno Mars is another person who is just as good at this. Both of them are throwback artists in their own way and understand the musicality of what it takes to harness that sound but to me, The Weeknd pushes his retro vibes forward into the future while Bruno Mars takes his retro vibes to the vintage sounds of the past. I believe both of those tastes primarily lend to their voices. Bruno has that soulful throwback rasp that naturally lends to those vintage sounds while The Weeknd's voice is more soulful and ethereal, lending itself to a more forward-thinking sound and fresher feel.

Abel is such a talent. His voice is so good and his hooks and melodies are so earwormy. He has these poppy, timeless dance mega hits but he is also capable of creating such dark, emotional music too. All of which is very cinematic. Even his upbeat songs have deeper melancholy undertones. There's a genre of music that makes you want to cry and dance at the same time. Like you don't know whether to twerk or get on the floor in the fetal position and feel it all hahaha It's like a group of friends trying to cheer up their sad friend by dragging them to go dancing His music is great for sad contemplative car rides or wedding reception dances

A very underrated thing very few people notice about the Weeknd is his choice of notes for the vocal lines. Notice how he builds from the root, to the 5th in the pre-chorus, and then to the root an octave higher in the chorus. And in the live version, when re repeats the chorus he uses the 3rd and 4th instead of the root.

It's basically mainstream synthwave, and it is well done. Synthwave is just about the only newer genre than gives me hope - I was there in the eighties, and it was a thrilling time, and in many ways that time had more of a futuristic aesthetic than now. Of course, as an electronic musician I've made some synthwave music as well - the quality of nostalgia and futurism simultaneously is entirely my thing. I love it.

Also it makes you want you to appreciate the amount of hard work singers, music producers and all the other people involved. P.S. @k54ltyd28
@k54ltyd28 3 жыл бұрын
@@vanburger That was my suspicion, that you had a good speaker set up. I think at least part of the answer to your question, is that modern music is produced mostly for headphones these days. Most serious audiophiles under 35 or so swear by a premium pair of headphones. And hard stereo separation doesn't play well there. There still is a lot of difference between the R and L, but it's the same instrument altered or double tracked such that it sounds bigger/better on headphones. But having an instrument entirely in either the left or right ear tends to be a bad experience on headphones, and I think that's mostly what modern producers are targeting these days.

He is not a rip off or either we don't want some nerds like you people to be critizing him at all... He is an amazing artist and his songs are good. He might be inspired from 80's or 90's. But he is doing well and his songs are spectacular.

I can't believe no one noticed that Save Your Tears is more of a Wham! (George Michael) "Everything She Wants" sample... or straight up steal. The Synth is mimicking the "AAAAHS" in the vocals to Wham's song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5fCfaqba9Vgeck

I want to learn more about THE VOLUME WARS! I love being introduced to this concept and being encouraged to pay more attention to sound design as a subject in which Ryan stated Jack is knowledgeable. I had been a fan of Bon Iver and similar musicians with somewhat unique or innovative production and arrangement for some time. I think this subject and how it affects or contributes to arrangements and dynamics is what I enjoy so much about these styles.

The drums on A-Ha's Take On Me was the Fairlight C.M.I. IIx The main synthesizer on Take On Me was the Roland Jupiter-8. The Jupiter-8 was used on The Weekend's album

this is SO true. Alot of songs I listen to the lyrics just dont pull me in. The beat, chords, and vibe do it. The lyrics are some what forgettable. The melodies stay. The only time the lyrics hit is with the choruses and hooks.

Arianna at 15:34: "He wrote these notes and they became really famous..." Me (before seeing the notebook in the video): "This seems like strange way to tell us he wrote a great piece of music..." Love these video's, very inspiring! I don't know whether it would fit with your plans for this channel, but I would be interested in your take on the so called 'November Rain trilogy' (Don't Cry, November Rain, Estranged) too.

So very good. These feel too short, but that probably means you're doing it right. Never heard that Thelonious note about the bridge before. Little gold nugget.

React to a Tyler the Creator track, he puts so much detail into his production. Its also different from the style that you guys ususlly cover, so it would be interesting to hear your perspective.
