The bog-preserved corpse of Croghan Man had well-manicured nails and a leather-plated armlet. What could this tell us about his role in an ancient society? From: MUMMIES ALIVE: Buried in a Bog bit.ly/1JhGLcs

I saw him at a museum exhibit about bog mummies. He was found in a bog by people harvesting bog material with heavy machinery. His body is so mutilated because he got stuck in the heavy machinery.
@williammccraw36299 ай бұрын
Actually Old Croghan Man was dismembered at death the cuts are noted to be too clean to have been damaged by machinery. Another bog mummy called Clonycavan Man in this case was damaged by machinery his upper half remains intact.

shinhwa changjo , if I am correct here, this body was discovered by accident. Men were excavating with heaven farm equipment and while turning the soli over he was found. At first they thought it was the body of a possible murder- but also the head was destroyed by accident by the heavy equipment. So that is why the head is not intact with the body. I remember this from a program I watched a while back. I’m sure you can look it up.

The archeologists presume he was a king sacrified for different reasons in a ritual, decapited then cut in half. Some wounds on his arms suggested he tried to protect himself of this trafic end
@GrainneMhaol4 ай бұрын
That's not necessarily true. He was probably cut by a peat-harvesting machine.

The number of bog bodies that got cut to bits in milling machines by Bord Na Mona tells you that this dude was not all that special. My dad worked those bogs and said that to me. He was a foreman and production was paramount. For every found remains you can bet there were hundreds which ended up in power stations, actually probably where the rest of croghan mans body ended up.

Bit annoying that the narrator cannot pronounce 'Croghan' correctly despite it being correctly said in the footage within. The 'g' is silent, it is pronounced 'Craw-hin'. (While regional variation does occur in Irish, 'Crog-hin' is not correct!).

@ibrahimahmedbulale9836 Жыл бұрын
No they were taller
@jenpw1525 Жыл бұрын
No that cannot be possible people did not grow super tall because food was scarcer and so their bodies didn’t grow to full size. look at what happens with stray feral cats. They are always smaller in stature than domesticated ones. And children that have been starved by abusive parents always look half their age and half a normal size

I wish they'd added more detail about why they associate sacred mounds and armlets with sun worship, as opposed to earth worship or any other deity. Without more information or evidence, which I'm sure exists, it comes across here as random guessing.
