Jesus elaborates on this in Matt. 12:7 where he states to the Pharisee, “if you knew what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.” With this we can assume that the real God never wanted any sacrifice. And how could he? He’s a spirit. What is a Spirit going to do with burned animals or virgins or piles of gold? This still baffles people today as the only thing we can actually do for God is to be good to each other. Would a little kid in a day care be able to do anything for the teacher or whoever’s in charge? No, other than getting along with other kids. That’s it.

The mummy, called La Doncella or The Maiden, is that of a teenage girl who died more than 500 years ago in a ritual sacrifice in the Andes Mountains. That's really interesting, I couldn't get over how perfectly preserved she was after all those years. Hair looked as if it we braided only moments before. Its stuff like this that really gets the imagination running. Its like having a piece of the past (nearly) fully intact with us today. 15 years old though, that's very young to die. You don't even know what you are by that age, there's so much more to learn about. And to convince a child that she's dying for a greater cause is, well, I guess I shouldn't judge to hard. Belief is a very powerful force, and can cause people to do unspeakable things. I wonder if she and those other children offered them selves as a sacrifice to please some Deity. Maybe they were experiencing a drout, or plague, and to them a sacrifice was the only way to save their people.

I really love seeing these relics from the distant past. It makes you wonder what she was thinking before she died. It also gives you a glimpse on what it was like back then. If her brain is still intact, and one day we have the tech, it'd be nice to extract those memories and turn it into a "movie" to see what she saw back then and to get a glimpse of the Inca civilization. People who appreciate science and history would know the feeling and the reason why we don't just bury these ancient relics. I don't see anything bad about learning more about the past and how our modern civilization came to be.

@Phebe Bofay Child sacrifice, referred to as capacocha was an important part of the Inca religion and was often used to commemorate important events, such as the death of a Sapa Inca. Human sacrifice was also used as offering to the gods in times of famine, and as a way of asking for protection Sacrifice could only occur with the direct approval of the Inca emperor. Children were chosen from all over the sprawling Inca empire, and were picked primarily based on their "physical perfection". Children chosen for sacrifice were generally "sons and daughters of nobles and local rulers". They were then taken hundreds or thousands of miles to Cusco, the capital, where they were the subject of important purification rituals. From there, the children were sent to high mountaintops throughout the empire to be sacrificed. According to traditional Inca belief, children who are sacrificed do not truly die, but instead watch over the land from their mountaintop perches, alongside their ancestors. The Inca considered it a great honour to die as a sacrifice.

@cm50655 жыл бұрын
Kaytlin Justis Unfortunately, we are doomed to repeat it. We have no room for any mystery or spirituality in our dog eat dog capitalistic material society. There is great spiritual wisdom in ancient cultures that we have evolved so far away from, losing connection to our natural environment, placing us on trajectory of annihilation of our species. Don’t mean to be so negative, but we are doomed as a species and truly believe we deserve to be wiped clean from this earth before we destroy it and other life any further.
