In case no one has warned you yet Jay, that glow in the dark filament will rapidly erode the nozzle on your printer if it's a standard brass or even worse copper. I don’t actually have an issue with this. If you’re never gonna have another card populating the other pcie slots, this product will cover up any wiring and empty slots at the bottom of the case. I definitely understand that it’s a very niche use case, but there are some that may be able to benefit from this. HOWEVER, price is a huge factor, and at $99, it’s way to expensive for a piece of acrylic and metal that light up.

@@khaoticpenguin3945 Well not including chargers with every new device does make a lot of sense. Given how often people replace their devices, especially phones, it's very likely that they already own at least one charger, if not multiple ones. Excluding them from packaging saves most customers the cost of a charger that they already have, and it means one less electronic device that will end up as e-waste at the end of its life. I don't know how Apple does it since they always do their own thing, but I'd be surprised if the charging port changes with every new iPhone. As far as I know they've been using lightning for a while. As for other brands, almost all of them use either micro-USB or USB-C for charging, both of which are so ubiquitous that most people already own many cables, and probably a few charging bricks. Finally, even if you don't own a charger and have to buy one separately, it's not gonna cost you much more than if it was included with your device, because the price of the bundle would include the price of the charger.

It's cracking on a layer line. Printing that thicker may help, but I'd rotate it 90 degrees in the slicer (so it looks like the letter " L " if you look straight down on it on the build plate,) and print it like that. That will for sure solve the cracking problem. Turning up the hot end temperature a couple degrees might also help with layer adhesion, but that looks like a decent print. It's worth experimenting a bit, but first thing I'd try is to rotate it.

Not crazy about the idea of introducing a lateral load to the cooler that it's not meant to support by jamming shims in there. The main issue is that the cards are getting longer and heavier, and the architecture they're plugging into was never designed to handle that sort of weight. It's a flat plane supported on two (more like 1 and 1/2) adjacent sides. It can't help but to sag unless you support the opposite corner. Stacking spacers under the rear case mount doesn't fix the sag, it just 'pre cocks' the board so it doesn't visually look like it's sagging when the case is standing up.
@salmon_wine
@salmon_wine 2 жыл бұрын
exactly. This is why the slot-bracket design is very ineffective versus the free standing gpu sag bracket which by far fixes the issue best. I paid $20 for a vertical argb gpu bracket from vetroo- and it's good enough at it's job that i initially had it set too high, and was bending the card in the opposite direction as the sag!
@usefulidiot21
@usefulidiot21 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's introducing a lateral load to the cooler by jamming shims in there. That lateral load already exists and the shims just slightly change the angle of it (by making the card perpendicular to the motherboard, instead of it sagging in a corner). So, as long as your case isn't being moved around, this would be fine since it removes the bend from the PCIe connector, which seems to be the most important part of removing sag (the metal reinforced PCIe connectors are definitely strong enough to handle this). Either way, I still have a metal bracket that supports the far corner of my 3080 from sagging, but I wouldn't be opposed to this solution.

@@phillipgerringer9822 I'm far from an expert (I'm a beginner, just have recently been diggin' into filament types) but ABS filament should work well. ABS doesn't even begin to soften until 105 Celsius and doesn't melt until 220 - 230 Celsius. In the case of some of those cards, the PLA spacer appears to be in direct contact with a heatpipe. While one of those heatpipes will never reach nozzle temperature where PLA melts, it could potentially achieve the bed temp under load (depending on what that heatpipe goes to). This could cause the part to warp, or the heatpipe to embed in the part. This probably wouldn't be an issue on all cards, but could be for some. This could obviously be fixed by using a more temperature resistant plastic, or metal like you showed before with the case brackets. Great video! I think there is room for a v3 design, where you cut the center out of a case bracket, and use it as a frame. Then make different thicknesses of plexi shims and edge light them. You could even laser etch logos or your name on the plexi for a custom illuminated label visible from the back of the case.

Even using the free extra expansion slot covers. 1: Find out however many you need to prop the card. 2: Cut the screw tabs off all but one. Recommend taking a file afterwards to smooth the cut ends. 3: Super-glue/epoxy them all together with the tab being the "bottom"-most one. 4: Paint the thing so you don't have bare metal edges showing. Unless they're stainless/chromed.

This is awesome. I was actually thinking of making some printing prototypes and asking a friend to print them for a custom hard drive cage. I've expanded to the point where my little mid-tower is too small for all the crap I have running through it. Already have a network card running in my last slot and my 2nd will eventually have another gpu so I can do some pass through on Linux. I am lucky with the bracket on my 2070 because I don't seem to have any sag, but if I had to solve that issue then the massive wing wouldn't work with my setup anyway. I love these DIY fixes.

I've seen this wingwall GPU holder go for 75 EUR here so it should come in at around 80 USD including taxes, probably cheaper as US sales tax is lower I think. Still a lot of money but I guess people who buy this product are also getting it for the aesthetic and RGB. Funnily enough, my current RTX 3080 phantom has barely any sag (at least not noticeable by eye) and even my old Asus strix 1070 TI had quite some sag.

Still, the one from Cooler Master is like 35 bucks on Amazon. And it's vertical so you can put it on the end of the GPU, which lets you show off your additional expansion cards that Jay talked about if you want to or, given that I'm pretty sure it's a Corsair case, mount SATA SSDs on top of the PSU cage if you have a lot of lighting/fan controllers behind the motherboard tray and can't use the mounting options there.

Other than using PLA on a location that might become a lot warmer than like 40-50 degree C, Jay's solution is 100 times better than what manufacturers come with. And should also cost next to nothing if they just fixed the issue in their designs to begin with. It's amazing how something as simple as a reverse bracket could fix the problem, but RGB!!!. A company could fix the problem but I think a fear is that something so cheap wouldn't sell as much. I would buy that for any card that sagged and I have no intention of buying a strix card or any card over $330 and I'd rather not have to spend that much for a new gpu. My current card sags, but it's only not noticeable because it doesn't have a beefy cooler on it, and it's about seven years old.

pretty sure it's been suggested but maybe you should solve the snapping problem and then sell them. naturally $0.03 is a wee bit too cheap to bother shipping it so you should make a 10-pack (or 20) of various sizes. sell it for $10+ shipping. worst case they can also just be used as filler bits for when people inevitably lose those things from their case or like you showed they can be used as accent color inserts.

Stick those on your merch store! I would buy those in a heartbeat! A little revision to beef it up as you said, patent it ( :D ), and off to the races! Then again, your 3D printer would probably see some heavy use and the shims would most likely be sold out all the time. :) My MSI 3080ti Ventus came with an arm, but I your idea is a more logical choice from an aesthetics and price point (you can allocate money to other parts!) for those GPUs w/o included arms.

The idea came to me, after I've seen Jay's first video on this matter. Since I don't move the computer around, it holds in place without the need to being screwed, the weight of the GPU is more than enough to do that. Not to say, that it's extremely cheap and it offers more than enough strength for support.
