Yes he did "cut" with yamato but even if he didn't given 1 or 2 days Qliphoth would've busted through on its own. So for now they are stuck until some crackhead like Arkham wont start another apocalypse or until Nero goes back to order to retrieve demon world research so Nico can make some DEM for them to come back.

Dante was literally able to return from the Demon realm once before after the events of DMC2, I don't see why he can't come back again after DMC5. Besides, you can't have a DMC5 sequel without including Dante, the progenitor of DMC himself, in it. He's literally a staple of this series.

But yes he only has all three for gameplay purpose

If the qliphoth tree is comparable to something like yggdrasil then it could be a case of yamato being able to create portals between realms using the qliphoth tree as a means to link the worlds and once the roots are severed the link is wholly broken so the yamato has no route

Pretty sure gates to the demon world require some form of ritual or alter. In 3 Virgil used the Yamato in a ritual to open the demon realm. And in 4 Yamato was used by The Order on an alter of some kind they had in their basement. It’s been awhile since I’ve played the games so this is based off my memory.

You can use the Yamato to open up gates between realms. Urizen used the Yamato to open up a Gate which stayed open, which then allowed the Yamato to be able to have a travel portal open between the human and demon world. But once it's closed they are separate places and only allows to travel in the same world.

I think its just them not correcting him, he doesnt know they can and have come back or at least the extent. Personally i think this would be perfect for the next game to have nero lady and trish be the main playable characters, something happens that makes mundus return to set up the following game being nero dante and vergil. This one could focus more on vergil and nero’s relationship while giving vergil the chance to get revenge since dante has already his fight with mundus.
