My Shin Tzu has eye discharge that smells horrible and bad breath. Yes, I brush his teeth regularly and baths every 3 weeks. My little barker at everyone all day has stolen my heart. ❤ I just wish he didn't bark so much!

I have a shih tzu. I really struggle with her behaviour. She won't be toilet trained, barks from 5am until I come downstairs, and nearly rips the kitchen door off to get to me. She won't let me groom her back end, and she's very demanding and fussy with food. Good luck. I hope your shih tzu will be easy to train and a pleasure to be with.

​@@debbiecurtis4021 Most people I know that have them say the same thing. They are temperamental fussy little dogs that bark constantly. Unless you have money to send them to a dog trainer....good luck. On top of it they are not the most attractive of dogs

They are marvelous dogs and love people. But you do have to take them to a pet store or someplace that allows pets so they can socialize. But make sure they have all their shots before you allow them to walk around in public places. If you are on bed, they want to be in bed with you.The same with a chair or sofa. Most have sensitive stomachs, so be careful what you feed them. Some dog treats gives my girl diarrhea. I left Susie's beard and mustache grow but not too long. They are a lot of work; so if you allow their hair to grow long, they need to be combed everyday including their beautiful tail. Tzus can be very picky eaters. The first one I had, loved to eat. She died at 14 years old. I was devastated. I finally bought another Tzu from a show breeder. She is a picky eater. They can be stubborn in training. Both of mine were. Never spank or slap a Tzu. They have good memories. My grandmother had a Tzu and spanked her if she urinated in the house. Her dog would end up biting her. Because Susie's beard is a little long as is her ears and mustache, I hand feed her with her own spoon so food does not get in her hair. Susie has a skin allergy problem and scratches...sometimes her belly is too pink. I got meds from Vet and she takes half a small pill each night. She also has to be bathed with a good shampoo you can find on line. All in all she loves me and my hubby and we love her, particularly my husband who did not care for dogs. But between Mitzie who died and now Susie, who gives lots of kisses, have won his heart. We fight over who is going to have her whether taking a nap or who she is with during TV time. ShihTzus are precious little dogs who loves love. I know I could not wait for my puppy to come to our home. She has been a joy ever since. Oh did I mention my daughter has a Tzu as well. She loves her little dog. Good luck with your sweetie when you get her/him home. One just cannot give these dogs enough love. They do get lonesome. I am retired so I spend all day with her. Daughter works from home.

@@debbiecurtis4021 Yes they are hard to potty train. My girl only barks when someone knocks at the door. Each Tzu is different yet the same in many ways. My girl is a sweetheart. My daughter's Tzu is potty trained but loves to bark at even a feather floats by! No dog is perfect as we have our own particular ways about us. Good luck.

Never had my little bloke stink - he would jump on my mother & fart a few times but he was washed ever 2 weeks. He was given no special diet but enjoyed food my mother cooked for him & the Occasional Smoked Pig's Ear. He had a bone to chew every month that he used to enjoy & before he died went back onto wet dog food as I guess he wanted a change.

My shih tzu Cocco only smells on the rare occasion when he farts. N he's almost 14yrs old.My Cocco gets his teeth brushed once a day. Has never had a ear or skin infection . N his groomer expresses his anal glands monthly. Also his paws get washed n blowed dryed every day. I also bathe him between grooming visits. He also gets brushed daily. He loves getting groomed, baths n his paws washed. He comes to the bathroom promptly after eating to have his teeth brushed n his face lightly washed. It's really how diligent you are with them. Cocco is a diabetic medical alert service dog n too smart for me to handle some days. LOL. He blows my mind still after 13+ yrs. He expects his daily clean up sessions/ routine. He is spoiled rotten by me but if your dog woke you up by dropping your cell phone on your neck when you were sleeping n once you awoke, I realize! , oh my god I am having a heart attack n then you know, my amazing dog just saved my life. That happened 2 years ago. N he tells me to check my blood sugar when it's too high or too low. N sometimes he likes me to feed him his Cesar pate dog food cut into cubes with a fork . N he owns more than 100 dog toys. Alot bought by friends,family and doctors n nurses. N a friend gave him a t-shirt with (My Hero) printed on his back. I swear what love my dog has for me n the love he has for sniffing out diabetes every he goes , enables him to do for me what he does. How can you not love n care 1000% for that dog too.

I have been lucky! My 2yrs old got fungal infection but it didnt stink! And after medication she was alright! She only stinks when i delay her bath! I bath her every 10days but its 15days sometimes 😌 but as the video! Its her natural odour so yeah!!

Burts Bees, oatmeal shampoo is good. Or a name brand that gets rid of SKUNK smell. They usually smell great

I think the owners get so used to the smell that they can't smell it all anymore but I came upon this video while searching "why shih tzus stink?". Every one I've come in close contact with smells like, for lack of a better way to put it, farts.
