@@ghostwriter991 the skyhook was a sub 50 percent shot for kareem. Its a myth that the skyhook was unguardable. In the modern game a player that shoots 35 percent from 3 is better than a 50 percent skyhook.

@@ibashcommunists6847 ay man from a stat perspective you right i aint gonna lie but with time a midrange game will never go out of style and it is useful when i played so I'll still pick that. We don't know the long term effective of shooting them long distance three especially with the impact of the stepback on knees ankles hips and the effect it has on your joints ligaments tendons fascia etc but time will tell because from a physics perspective shooting far will negatively effective their cartilage through degeneration but like all things in life time will tell so we'll see

My uncle was like 5'7 or 5'8. He would get a running sky hook off over big dudes all the time. He knew, based on how big they were, how much to step away from the basket as he was taking the shot. He said it was so he didn't have to change the release of the shot each time. The guys at the parks would call him little Calvin Murphy because of his shooting.

READ THIS Luke 15:7 I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance. 🎉🎉🎉 Is it just wonderful to know that when you are saved, there is a party in Heaven. Just for you.That is how much you matter to God. Believe in the Righteous Almighty God, and be saved. Do you want to have a relationship with someone who loves you beyond any other love. Someone who sacrificed himself for you and everyone on this Earth the one who created the heavens and the Earth be creator of everything do you want to be saved. Do you want eternal life with peace and joy forever your answer is Jesus if you do not know who Jesus is read the following Jesus is the Son of God that came to this Earth to save the people of their sins. when God-created Earth sin same came into Earth and tempted Eve(The first woman) to eat the fruit that God had forbidden her and Adam to not eat. If they do, they will die. Not immediately, but death is certain. Eve ate the fruit and gave Adam some to eat as well. And he did. That showed that humans are sinners and not perfect. That is why Jesus came to Earth to save humans of their sins. This leads to a relationship with God(the main reason) and eternal life. He did that by dying on the cross. 3 days later, he resurrected. The story of Jesus is beautiful. If you do not already have a Bible, purchase one. If you do not have the money, pray to God about you wanting a Bible and if he could please provide one for you. This does not mean a Bible will come from the sky and land on your hands. Pray to God every day. But to not be blabbering that just say a bunch of words to try to impress and show off to other people or to impress. This does not mean long prayers are bad always pray out of the heart. Give thanks also when you pray. The Father (also God) sent his only son Jesus Christ to die for you. Rejoice brothers and sisters because your price was payed by Jesus Christ death. Acts 16:31 They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus , and you will be saved- you and your household." 🎉 Jesus loves You, smile, isn't that just amazing❤😊🎉 Keep trying, no matter what problem that you face. The power of God can strengthen you, and help you, just turn to God all glory to the almighty, and only God 😊

Early in his career Kareem shot the sky hook out to top of the key range. The NBA did not have the 3P shot until 1980 but I remember in a playoff series for Milwaukee vs Boston he hit a Sky Hook from the far sideline -- 22-24 feet out. When he got to the Lakers Kareem started shooting the Sky Hook from a very specific distance -- 12-16 feet. Rarely any closer or farther.

People don’t really seem to understand the Skyhook was only an Unguardable shot because Kareem was 7’2 with a wingspan of 8’5. His standing reach was comparable to Yao Mings at 9’8 (Kareems wingspan was longer than Mings), so no one coul possible contest it. If you’re 6’3 there is no reason to use a skyhook because any centre could easily block the shot. It’s a shot that is only goo if you’re literally one of the lengthiest players in NBA history. Learning the 3pt shot is just far more accessible and valuable across the league

@AAGEnzee
@AAGEnzee Жыл бұрын
Yes and no. You're right some 6'3 guard shouldn't be doing it, but most PF/Cs are big enough that it becomes unblockable. Assuming they have at least a decent vertical as well. You have your whole body in the way. For them to get anywhere close to blocking it, they'd likely foul you in the process. Especially since you can use your left arm to create a little extra space as you go up. It's similar to why Dirk's 'leg out' fadeaway is unblockable for anyone remotely your size. Luka uses it quite often. It brings the ball further away from the defender when you release.
@sportsboyjon
@sportsboyjon Жыл бұрын
What a stupid take. No one said guards should be skyhooking. But for those that play in the post it still works. You don't have to be taller than your opponent. Any average height pf/center can learn it. You don't have to have a bigger wingspan. You just need to use your body as a divider from the defense. Hell you can have LESS wingspan and still make it work because most any defender would still have to foul you to reach it

@@gvngbvngiggy of course there is. when we say 'unblockable' that doesn't mean literally it's 100% never been blocked ever, no matter what.. If someone comes from the side or behind, they can easily block it. It's also possible to block it from in front of him in certain circumstances. If kareem was rushed to get the shot off, someone else may have timed their jump better or he didn't get his arm fully extended.

My favorite Kareem stat: between three years of high school, and three seasons on the UCLA varsity (freshmen were not eligile at the time), Kareem's teams lost a grand total of four games, and one of those was by 2 pts (I think) against Elgin Baylor and Houston, when Kareem had an injured eye. The skyhook is a very tough shot in the modern NBA, because even the 6’6” guys can get up to easily contest it; and the worst part is the wing/guard collapsing on help D. Joker and AD would need to *100% trust* that nobody pulls an Ainge/Stockton/PatBev/Brooks/etc… and goes after their legs. The highlights show the made skyhooks and it looks great, but if you watch the games it’s a different story. You’ll see Kareem doing his walking skyhook(across the key), and everyone collapsing onto his landing/stopping spot. You can literally just watch 1980s Lakers Vs Celtics games and multiple times see the disastrous results! The majority is the little shit Danny Ainge “pretending” help Defence, and the result is Kareem rolling his ankle or outright collapsing onto the floor.

It's cause the jump hook is much easier to learn and perfect. It allows you to face the basket directly while the sky hook has you facing the basket without being squared up.

Jump hooks are far more inconsistent than Kareem ever was with the sky hool

@@TheIcemanthomas no it’s not cause Kareem was the only one to consistently shoot that shot and make it. The jump hook is far more widely used and and is made enough to be proven to be a more consistent shot

Wilt Chamberlain consistently blocked Kareem's Sky Hook. And that was a near retirement torn ACL Wilt. That's nothing against Kareem but just shows how great Wilt was.

That’s not why lmao, nobody else can perfect it. It’s tougher to get off today than it was back then. Post guys don’t have much time to operate down low with the removal of illegal defense rules and how teams crowd and swarm back the basket players on the high block. This is a game where guys make a couple extra million of they’re good, you don’t think the best basketball minds in their coaches and trainers didn’t think to add this in their guys games if they could?

Kareem also had bucket loads of talent, but he is also correct: practice the shot until you can make it from wherever and off the glass.

My dad taught me the hook shot and I used it up until I was 13, then I started favoring the stop and pop. Different shot for a different situation, I know, but being a point guard made the hook shot situations almost nonexistent.
