a lot of people act like the unelected senate isnt partisan, theyre appointed by the prime minister, so theyre partisan by everything but name. We need senate elections

I've always understood the unelected Senate as a means to bring balance to a democracy. This idea, to my understanding, goes back to Aristotle who characterized populist democracies as "government by emotion". Democracy, according to Aristotle, needed to be balanced by a body of wise elders who could add a "sober second thought" to emotionally charged legislation. The problem, as pointed out in this video, is that politicians abuse the Senate by turning it into a partisan stronghold. Although I understand the frustration Canadians have towards this institution I don't think most understand it. BTW, great video...you got me as a new sub. ☺

I believe we should elect our senators. If we did, they would be accountable, and more bipartisanship would occur. Seriously thought, great video and great explanation. What do you make these videos on?

I assume you're asking what editing software I use? This particular video was actually made in PowerPoint and Microsoft Video Editor (the default Windows 10 app) lol. But for my more recent videos I've been using Shotcut to edit, which is free and there's plenty of tutorials on KZbin.

Pierre needs to invoke the EA and change the senate make it elected or abolish it. it's already easy to invoke the EA precedent was set when the libby regime did it to peaceful protestors

IDK. Looking at the US it is clear what happens when the two houses of the legislature are hyper-partisan. But, not even the UK's citizens are big proponents of the house of lords unelected system. This is a tense issue and the Alberta senate "elections" will add more strain to an already tense issue.

The current system is essentially a benign dictatorship. Yes, elect senators with limited function as the current house holds.
