I can understand why God want answer prayers like, please let me win the lottery or please give me a raise at work or please let me get a Cadillac, but basic prayers for chastity, wisdom, a good wife, freedom from sin, ability to discern God's will-----why won't God answer prayers like that? What would it cost Him if He did?

Did Jesus ever reject to heal anybody? No. He was not able in Nazareth due to their unbelief, so I agree with 1., but not the rest of it. Jesus never told to the sick one that it was not God will to heal him /her.

Look at the people in the world who are super rich that have everything, the people who have never experienced any real problems or any suffering of any kind and have had it easy their whole lives. Are they usually good people? No, they usually aren't. Most of them are very shallow, self absorbed, superficial people who believe that they are better than everyone else. Most of them also are not truly happy and they try to fill that emptiness inside of them with other things, materialistic, worldly things. Why do you think the billionaires do so little to help the world? The 2,000 billionaires in the world now possess about 65-70% of the entire worlds wealth. They literally have the power to cure world hunger, starvation, diseases, lack of water, homelessness, you name it. Yet they don't. Why is that? It's because most of them are not good people and it's because they cannot empathize with the suffering/plight of others since they themselves have never experienced any extreme levels of suffering because they have had very easy/smooth lives. So what does this tell us? It tells us that suffering breeds love for others, suffering breeds compassion, suffering makes us better people towards others. Which makes sense since it was ultimately through Christ's suffering on the cross that we are all saved and that we are all able to have immediate forgiveness of our sins/wrong doings. I don't like suffering either, I've had a lot of it, suffering has probably costed me my life here on earth, but you know what, it has also made me a better person. Because I have experienced so much suffering in my life it has given me a deep compassion, appreciation and joy for helping others who are suffering, because I can fully understand and empathize with what they are going through. If everything were easy and smooth all the time in our lives we would probably all be like snobby billionaires. I understand how you feel, I also hate suffering, I've been severly I'll for the last 15 years, I hate that I've had to experience so much suffering in my life and wish my life were different and that certain health problems had not happened to me. I've questioned God, been angry at God, I've wondered why me, why did this happen to me, what did I do that was so horrible to deserve such suffering? But the reality is, though I may hate it and may not fully understand it and may wish it didn't exist, suffering does in fact make us more loving, caring, empathetic/compassionate as people especially towards others who are enduring sufferings and hardships in life. Suffering can bring us all together, suffering can allow us to empathize with one another when tragedies occur, suffering allows us to be able to be there for one another, to love one another. Without suffering we wouldn't be capable of the same level of compassion and love that we are capable of, the suffering we experience is what gives us a deeper level of compassion and empathy for those who are also enduring suffering. Is this not a great gift? If we had no suffering we also probably wouldn't have the same capacity to love and care for one another the way that we do. So in this regard you can argue that suffering serves some kind of purpose. Back to my point about wealthy people who have had it easy/smooth their whole lives and have never had any health problems or suffering of any kind. These types of people tend to be more heartless, less caring towards others and the plight of others, they tend to be more arrogant, more egotistical, more selfish and self absorbed then people who have been through a lot in life. In my experience the best human beings I have ever met, the kindest human beings I have ever met, were people who had been through the most sufferings/hardships. It's given them a deeper capacity to understand, love and empathize with other people (aka be Christ like). The Bible basically says that to be Christ like is to suffer. Jesus said "Behold I send you out as sheep amongst wolves" he basically told us that as Christians we will experience suffering, we will be hated, persecuted, reviled, we will experience hardships just as Christ experienced all those things. That's part of what it is to be like Jesus Christ, it means to bear the same burdens that he bore. This is where the phrase comes from about "Taking up your cross" and how "We all have our crosses to bear." To follow Christ, to be like Christ, is to suffer. The Bible tells us that it is through our hardships and our sufferings that we are made more like Christ and that through these things we are strengthened, refined, hardened and made perfect, made into better people. Think about the kindest, nicest human beings you have ever known. Were most of them people who were wealthy and had never had any problems/sufferings in life? Or were most of them people who have seen and been through some heavy stuff in life? This is the reality and all the great ancient philosophers of old pretty much agree with this sentiment...which is that people who have had it easy all their lives and never experience any real suffering are soft, they aren't equipped to weather the storm when trials or suffering does come, small things rattle them and throw them off easily, while those who have been through the storm are not so easily affected and just brush off the little things that effect people who have had it easy all their lives. In a weird way, suffering can in fact be a gift when a person comes out the other side of it since it does strengthen you. Imagine having a near death experience and living to survive it, you would think that would be a horrible experience right and a suffering that no one would ever want to go through, but guess what most people who have had Near Death Experiences say? Most of them say that the experience drastically changed their life, that it gave them a much deeper appreciation for life and how finite it is, that seeing the things they saw made them a better person by having the experience and that they are grateful for it. Does that not prove that suffering can have a purpose? People who never have suffered usually are lacking in character, empathy, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, they are often cold and cynical towards others. While those that have experienced much suffering/hardships are the complete opposite and are often living a life that is closer to how Jesus lived. Does that not prove what the Bible says about suffering is true? I hate suffering as much as you do, believe me I've experienced an enormous amount of it in my life, a lot more then most Americans. Yet if I had never experienced any of it, if my entire life had been smooth and easy I would not have the same heart that I have for those who are suffering. In a perfect world yes there would be no suffering, which is why there is no suffering in heaven, but far as Earth we are told this is not a perfect world, we are told this world belongs to Satan to rule over and to have full control over until the day of Christ's return so this means this world is the Devil's playground and this is why the world is full of suffering, that and because of Adam and Eve's choices where they committed the original sin in the garden. The Bible says the world is full of suffering because of Satan. Satan/The Devil is a necessity however and serves a purpose in order for us to have the greatest gift that God gave us besides sending his son to die for us, and that's the gift of free will. The ability to CHOOSE and to make our own choices. Without Satan to tempt us, without anything bad, without any suffering there would be nothing to tempt us, nothing to distract us, nothing to drive us away from God, so then we wouldn't really have free will, without Satan and suffering we would all be mindless robots that just serve God by default since we would just "know" that he's real and that he's God since there would be no suffering and nothing to deceive us from that reality of his existence. So you see, Satan who we are told is the cause of all the suffering in the world is actually there to balance the equation, he's there to ensure God's gift/desire of free will for us. Do you like freedom/free will? Would you want to just be a mindless robot that just serves God by default and does whatever he says and not have a choice in the matter? No, right? You love the fact that you have free will/freedom, we all do and that's why God gave it to us. God wanted us to choose him, he wanted us to have a choice and he didn't want to have a bunch of mindless followers that just serve him automatically/mindlessly from birth and does whatever he says, where is the joy, the interest, the fun or the love in any of that? If you have a child, would you want your child to be forced to love you, would you want them to just love you be default because they don't have any choice in the matter or would you want them to choose to love you because they truly love you and not because they have to like a robot that has no choice? You would want them to "choose" to love you right?

Say when you are young your father builds you and your family a house to live in and like any house he builds a front door for you to go in and out of, now your father can keep the front door locked and keep you locked up in the house at all times and this will keep you from experiencing nearly all the bad things in the world and much of the suffering/pain within it, or your father can give you the freedom to go in and out of the houses front door as the door is intended for, thus giving you freedom/free will and the ability to make choices and to have experiences on your own accord? However allowing you to go in and out of the houses front door will mean that as you go out into the world you will experience many hardships and much suffering..which would you rather have? The father who lets you come and go out of the door freely, or the father who keeps you locked up in the house depriving you of free will so that you don't experience any suffering? Does this analogy not also prove that suffering serves a kind of purpose in giving us free will/freedom/the ability to choose? We can't have it both ways. Either you have a world of no suffering + no free will or you have suffering + free will. While being a happy, oblivious robotic program in the Matrix without free will that just mindlessly serves & does what it's programmed to do might sound appealing on the surface, like the character Cypher wanted in The Matrix, I personally would much rather take the Red Pill and choose the latter & have a free mind/free will like Morpheus had. Even if that is the harder route. Wouldn't you? Or are you a Blue Pill person?

What's particularly telling is that which prayers God does or does not answer seems to follow a clear pattern, namely that God tends to heal diseases that sometimes get better on their own (and he doesn't heal them any more frequently than they do naturally heal). Almost as if God isn't actually having any measurable healing effect on the world.

#4 God is in control? Yikes, Absolutely not. The enemy was given dominion of this earth. God is not controlling the murders, the rapes, the sickness, the evil of this world. God is within you, your imagination and actions will heal you. There will not be an external type of person that will come to heal you. You must meditate and visualize how you want to be, then believe in it that you are that which you imagine. Stay in that no matter what and you will begin to heal. Please stop waiting on something external when you are equipped with the healing power your mind , your imagination and your own belief that God is within. All this is from the Bible.

This answers why God doesn't answer the prayers of Christians for their own healing, but doesn't cover why He doesn't answer the prayers of Christians for the healing of non-believers. Is there value in Christians watching a non-believer suffer? Do non-believers get a good message from seeing God not heal other non-believers when Christians pray? I can think of reasons why God might not answer the prayer of a believer for the healing of others. I just think the clarification that this answer only covers prayer for healing of Christians would have been good to state explicitly. Because the answers are somewhat different.
