in all honesty, the mask just adds a mysterious aura to the character, so maybe he wears it to feel mysterious, seeing as he always wears more than one mask to avoid having the first one removed, and as a bonus, the mask adds a secretive effect to the point he CAN walk in and out of ANYWHERE because nobody knows what he looks like under the mask, and seeing as he has a mole, if he were to show his face, getting a disguise would be harder because you can just move a mole, and kakashi don't look like a make-up kinda guy to me

nope when debuting the special manga for kakashi's face reveal kishimoto was asked about it why he hid his face for so long. and kishimoto's answer was that at first he didnt really put much thought into it he just thought it looked cool for him but then after seeing how popular the character had become and how much people wanted to know he gave it some more thought, and summarized that the real reason is probably because kakashi feels embarrassed to show his face around others and that he doesn't want people to get distracted by the fact that he has such prominent features.(in japan btw if you posses a mole by your lip they consider it incredibly attractive and that you're a very beautiful person.)

I've got one theory for a long time. Author of Naruto, Kishimoto, had something different in mind on start. Almost every ninja before event of chunin exam had mask. Zabuza Momochi, Gozu and Meizu (Demon brothers), Kumade Toriichi, all of them had Kakashi type masks. Haku had ANBU style mask and Kishimoto kept that detail for all villages ANBU characters.
