That’s not to say they don’t deserve it, but Jesus they should just be thankful they have the chance to make bank off of something that people will universally like you for. I cannot imagine being in such a position of clouded vision to be angry that my role was successful and people recognize me for it.

I think one of the big problems with distancing himself from his character is that Trevor was physically designed after him, all of the GTA V protagonists were designed after there voice actors. So it’s kind of hard to not be Trevor when not only do you sound like him, but you also look like him.
@VoidOneGamer26 күн бұрын
Ogg is also kinda typecast, a lot of his roles are in a similar vein to Trevor. At least tbe ones he's known for. And it's not like he's had anything near as successful as GTAV. So I'm sure he's resentful of that.
@Vegas233218 сағат бұрын
I think he would've gotten waaay less backlash if he didn't act like such a dick about it all. It's fine not being all hyped up when someone calls you by the name of a role you've played, but he acts like his fans are mentally not all there if they bring up his GTA role. Coming across like he's above acting in "cartoons" after what he'd describe as one built his career. Also just a dick move to set up a cameo after GTA 5 dropped, and take money from fans of that series. While basically calling them stupid for not being able to differentiate reality from a cartoon, and acting surprised people are asking about objectively the biggest role of his career. There's more tactful ways to go about saying he wants to be taken seriously as an actor, and not be attached to a single role from his career. Could've just started the cameos with a preamble about his feelings on the role before doing the Trevor stuff, or something. Reminds me of Rain Wilson, and his role as Dwight Shrute. He was still nice to fans of The Office, but voiced in interviews that he doesn't like being solely recognized for being Dwight. He's since somewhat gone back on that attitude, and I think that started with him understanding how impactful that role was for his career and fans of the show. He's cool with it, because he knows that role was important to his fans, even if it isn't his most proud work. Steve is missing that entire outlook, and on top of that, he has a crappy attitude towards anything that has to do with his role as Trevor. I think people understand the logic behind his attitude, but Steve is too much of an a-hole about it all for people to sympathize with him like Office fans have with Rain Wilson.

MOST of the biggest VAs they've had, have done the job not really careing because they didnt look in to (or indeed know how big some games could get at the time), worked for a fixed amount and boom done. The games would come out, make MULTI millons of dorra then the VAs get uppity demanding more becaue "well they are worth it and the game wouldn't be as huge with out THEIR star power!" so rockstar started to deal with no names........ and here we are again XD but this time it's over being fed up with a roll that has created you, which again I find to be a bit pathetic. I think the issue here is that Ogg doesn't take video games as seriously as tv shows and movies. To him, games are cartoons and not worth the recognition, while live action performances should be recognized. It's an old-school mentality that used to be really huge back then. We saw it with Ray Liotta, who didn't understand nor care for his performance as Tommy Vercetti because it's a video game. All in all, I don't think he despises the performance that he did. He just doesn't understand it nor care for it the same way he understands and cares for his other acting roles. But, if he's hell-bent on not caring for it, he should at least make the effort to understand it. To see why this performance of his is so important to many. After all, it's what put him on the map.

Its funny though, because, if he blew up off of Game Of Thrones, he'd probably love that, but since he blew up off of GTA, he has a problem with it. Meanwhile, people are still discussing GTA games decades after they came out. If there was a game I'd want to blow up off of, its GTA. Granted, I bet a part of his resentment is pay. I bet he was paid like trash and only after realized how much money he made Rockstar.
@GTAVictor91285 ай бұрын
Another example is Andrzej Sapkowski - the creator of the Witcher universe. When he sold the IP rights to CDPR, he didn't expect the Witcher series to blow up so much in popularity. To this day he holds a dismissive attitude towards video games, yet privately felt bitter about underselling the IP rights.

Yeah I noticed that he doesn't seem to view video games as art. His whole "Trevor is a cartoon" defense really falls apart when you consider that he is essentially claiming that a large portion of acting (voice acting) is by extension less meaningful than IRL acting. Does he not realize that "cartoons" are art?
@mijofalco63555 ай бұрын
@charliekelly735 Nah, he probably has that old-school mentality where cartoons are just like children's toys and thus a waste of time. Whereas live action tv shows and movies are real artistic works because they're tied to Hollywood blockbusters and showbusiness. Because that's a form of media that's been around for so long and represented by so many legendary cinematographers and celebrities, that it's been recognized by the mass media and publicities since forever. To him, that's what needs to be taken seriously. Not children's stuff. Even though, there's a plethora of cartoons and games out there that are definitely for adults and not children. That these forms of media have become just as big and important as live action media. But he clearly doesn't see nor understands that.

Well you've gotta consider the difference. Lillard has done other stuff aside from Scooby-Doo and thus he gets approached for a variety of things, all while people respect that he's Matthew Lillard, the guy who plays Shaggy, Stu Macher, William Afton or whoever and not actually those characters. Same goes for Hayden Christensen. In fact, Hayden really wasn't doing so much acting after Star Wars and being in it was kind of rough given how people reacted to hiss portrayal of Anakin. It wasn't until years later where the heat died down and especially with Obi-Wan Kenobi that he really started embracing it, especially since again, a lot of people are respecting him as Hayden Christensen and not just calling him Anakin. With Steven Ogg? It's so frustrating to do acting gigs and get more opportunities because of GTA and then to have people not just only bring up Trevor but continuously ask him to be Trevor, to treat him like he's Trevor when he's a real human being has gotta be unbelievably frustrating, especially since with GTA's fanbase being quite young, it skews incredibly obnoxious.

He has gone on record saying he's not a gamer but, its about how you handle that fame that came with you. As SWEGTA pointed out, Ogg didnt ride this fame really. If you know Henry Winkler, The Fonz himself, that roll got him eveyrthing, he always credits the Fonz for his career in Hollywood, which either in acting, writing, or directing. He says he never stops talking about the Fonz, he loves him and the fans. And Winkler is a really good actor, as is Ogg, but Ogg refuses to accept this game as part of him. He has also unfollowed and refollowed Ned and Shawn a few times. And he's made statements that suggest he has aggression problems in real life. Now he's got a new girlfriend and seems a lot happier. Maybe he's changed. I hope so.

Barely said anything, basically just a grunt and a handwave from his window and mission ended. At the time I remember being excited to work for Trevor, to hear the funny things he'd have to say. Mark's done interviews before where he says he prefers talking about the Joker over Luke if possible. He said Luke is Luke but the Joker is a role people become actors just for a shot at, and out of everyone's interpretation, Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson and himself are often the one people compare them to. In one way, I can fully understand Steven Ogg's frustration. It can become demoralizing if you get stuck being known for only one thing, and that thing is in a media that you have absolutely no interest in and don't believe is a big time thing. In another though, it was because of GTA V that people started to notice him in being able to play a specific type of character. Steve sadly couldn't accept that fact and it ultimately caused him to reject his claim to fame so hard that he's now villainizing himself with the fans that made Trevor his true breakout role. Without Trevor, Steve is just another actor who thinks he can do more than what he actually can.
@Beth_04775 ай бұрын
its hard being a VA when you voiced a famous character as Trevor, hes obviously drained out and tired of only getting petitions and recognition from a game he does not even care about to the point where fans start harassing and dehumanize someone who is doing their job.
