Most residential wiring is 14 ga. on a 15 amp circuit; you need 12 ga. at minimum for 20 amp rating, 10 ga. even better. Not common for consumer electronics. Dedicated sub panel for big amplifiers is a worthwhile investment.

15a is more than enough juice for most amps. I've seen pro amps racks pop breakers though.

Pro amps are rarely set up to run concert levels for an open field in the confines of a living room. There is no need for 1800 Watts RMS in a living room for audiophile quality sound. Carnival music in Jamaica, I could see it, but not for anyone who values hearing.

Multi channel amps, especially high power ones like the two I use require 20 amp connectors. In fact for max power they need 30 amp lines each.

why not built your very high power amp with a 220 volt dryer plug , then you have a dedicated plug in the house or have a high use standard one that can be wired in by any electrician. And it has a heavy duty ground system , highly valuable in keeping noise to a minimum !!

For this bigger product, why not just goto 220v circuit? 30 and 50 amp 220v are very common now? Even for consumer use with things like plugging Range, Drier, RV, or EV's at home or welders or whatever. Don't believe most buying a product like this would mind paying an electrician for Range/Drier style 220v outlet in listening room and those are MUCH more commonly used than 20amp 110v. Also, with 110v and 20amp you are probably only going to get to 2000 watts worth of equipment you can power with this bigger device. Why not just goto 220v and allow the output you can power double.

Paul McGowan Yeah. Guess I just figure a customer already spending on what equipment like this costs wouldn't mind at all spending several hundred extra to have an electrician do a 220 drop if it would give them a lot more power capacity.

I think if you buy a Amp for 7000 Dollars, you can afford the $500 for the additional electric wiring.

Jake Storms Do you realize that a heavier wire needs to be run all the way back to the electrical panel? Most people do care about having half their house torn apart to get the wiring run. It could be a massive job and a big mess if the panel is at the other end of the house and the basement is finished drywall.

@@gordthor5351 20 amp wire is the same size no matter what voltage, though you can use larger wire if you want to. 12awg is rated for a 20 amp breaker. The cost difference is small. Either way you want a dedicated line for the best results and most people don't have that so the are calling an electrician either way. That's where I come in, I'm an electrician. My number is..............Just kidding, but I am an electrician.
