im the exact same way as parkzer. i think its a common asian thing tbh, i was super culture shocked when i went to my caucasian friends' houses as a kid and they not only didnt finish the food on their plate, but also proceeded to scrape it into the trash afterwards which would have been an unthinkable criminal act in my household. ive heard the same from a lot of my asian friends, both east and south, our cultures seem to place a ton of emphasis on never wasting food.

My grandma lived through the great depression, even after there was plenty enough money and food to go around she still held onto an immense need to make sure that not a single calorie of food she cooked went to waste which she passed onto my mom and my mom passed onto me and my siblings. It's gotten a bit more lenient over the generations, but when growing up I was punished for not eating what was provided to me and if I still refused to eat it they'd put it in the fridge and give it to me for my next meal. I have witnessed my mother take what most people would consider to be empty peanut butter jars out of the garbage to use a spatula to scrape what was left and use it for a sandwich. If we found mold on our bread we were taught to just tear out the moldy parts and eat what's left. Same goes for moldy fruits/veggies. Cut out the mold, use the rest. All this to say that even though I am in a situation where I will never have to worry about not being able to get food I will still always finish the food I have or keep it for later and if there is food in front of me I will just eat it, like parkzer does. Sometimes I don't even realize that I'm eating something until I've already eaten more than half of it. I have no idea if this is at all similar to what parkzer has experienced in his life, and quite frankly I think some of these behaviors could be classified as symptoms of an eating disorder, but I thought it was interesting to share.
