Honestly, I was a day one adopter and put it down pretty quickly. I just didn't find it that fun, bottom line. The funny thing is though, the ingredients were mostly there. If everything had been the same, but it had just had proper mainline Dragon Quest Monsters combat, it could have ended up being my favorite in the Monsters series. As it was though, the combat just wasn't very engaging and the rest of it wasn't fun or compelling enough to hold up the product without engaging combat imo. It needed something to do the heavy lifting, and it didn't have whatever that something was.

It's probably going to be in the game like the others. First you'll have to collect enough of each rank and or family. This will show unseen monsters in the "monster dex" then check the info of any monster you don't have and it Will probably show the monsters needed to make it. Or you could always wait a few days for someone to make a guide :)

This game and DQ Builders 2 are the best spin offs of any series I’ve ever played other than Pokémon Legends Arceus and Monster Hunter Stories. This and Builders 2 are excellent. They’re pretty wholesome but they’re not boring. They hit a really nice sweet spot for me between “cozy” chill game and something a little more combat/action rpg oriented. I get bored with stuff like Rune Factory and this just was a perfect middle ground. Builders 2 was also super enjoyable, I love every minute of both games and still play them regularly. I’m really excited about the new DQ Monsters game coming Nov 2023. They have some great spin offs and that’s not something you can say for a lot of fame franchises. This is something I could play in front of or with my kids and not feel like I’d be put in any awkward positions. It’s wholesome and fun. Square Enix has some of my favorite games this year, DQ Treasures, Octopath Traveler 2 m, Nier: Automata (I never played until switch release) and Harvestella… and for SOME reason, they all flopped commercially except Nier. I don’t know how they’re marketing these games but they need an overhaul. All of those games are EXCELLENT but not nearly well known enough by the average Switch player. Harvestella had an excellent story, cool combat, beautiful characters, awesome jobs/classes but because it has some farming/fishing it was marketed to people who played farm sims of any type which… it wouldn’t have worked for all of them. You only farmed for sustenance, it was much more JRPG-like. I’m so bummed it didn’t hit its target audience. It wasn’t a perfect game but it has CRAZY potential and I absolutely LOVED it. I love SquareEnix but they gotta do something about their amazing games just not meeting their mark in the English markets. Octopath Traveler 2 is my favorite game I’ve played in the last year and easily one of my top 3 favorite games ever. The story, characters, soundtrack and voice acting were UNREAL. With awesome combat and jobs/classes. Plus the HD2D was so cool. That game should’ve had a way bigger impact than it did. It’s an incredible game and they’re just letting them flop.

Finally beat this game about an hour ago. I’d say it was a solid 8/10 experience in my book. Major complaints are the jankiness of vertical traversal, which could’ve been remedied with a “Climb” Forte, there could’ve been a bit more monster variety, and, for me personally, it was a HUGE missed opportunity for this game to not have mimics as enemies. Like a random chance of a treasure you dig up actually being a mimic, and beating it nets you a higher than average chance of getting a treasure in Mint condition (to make it more appealing, Mimics would never drop Fair treasure). But yeah, if we ever somehow get a Treasures 2, they can take what worked and refine it further, and for what didn’t work/what was missing, look around for what can be done. I’m gonna be starting up the post game in about 2 weeks. Got it for Christmas when it was about $35-ish at Walmart, and I feel like I was in a sweet spot that let me really enjoy the game because the treasures let me learn more about the DQ games before XI.

Man seeing Banjo Kazooie in this video made me realize that Treasures should've been like that. Imagine a 3D platformer DQ game where you have to use different monsters abilities to get to places and collect treasures in the world similar to Mario Odyssey or Banjo but also had RPG mechanics and equipment for fighting enemies. That's seriously what we should've gotten with this game. But the treasure searching in this game is kinda... barebones instead unfortunately and has next to no platforming or actual decent level design at all. I was gonna say that a potential sequel should do this exact idea to improve on everything but considering this game sold underperformed according to SE, I doubt that's gonna happen...
@DulyDullahan Жыл бұрын
For point 1, I’d rather compare it to the graphics of DQ11. DQ11 is gorgeous and the environment was bright, colourful and filled with many neat details. DQ Treasures felt a little flat compared to it. It was also a shame that it released near so many bigger titles as well.

I don't think the graphcs is so much of a problem .... but yeah Dragon Quest/Warrior is almost non existand in Europe not because its bad but because people don't know about it and there is no commercial and nothing. Walking around in Japan you hear the iconic DQ music like everywhere ! Also yeah collecting some weird treasures that don't tell us anything at all is kinda boring. Also the "bosses" were all the same and there weren't that many monsters to collect. "Town" building was also super boring even though I love the idea so much as I loved it in several old non DQ games as well but it was done super bad.

For me the thing that the game want to make feel important in the end are just numbers, find the treasures don't improve the gameplay in any meaningfull way, they don't impact your party, your strength, they are just numbers. It's cool to see your base improving, but to be stronger in the game is a separate mechanic to the treasure finding, and even important tresures, that the game try to make you care about, when you get it, like the Amber Horn, it could ending be less valuable than the random junk you found in the way to get the Horn. So, bad graphics, meaningless progression system and bad combat, the only thing that i found fun during my gameplays was getting stronger monsters, even so the stronger ones tend to have the least usefull abilities, like the Cyclops and the Golems.

Almost half of the likes, are Dislikes. Sheez. The Game was promising, telling us: "Hey, go collect treasures and learn Eriks backstory!". But then... yeah, this happened. I really like the Switch, but most of the Games, first released on it, are bad. For example: Rune Factory 5.... A fantastic Game, if you play it on PC and not the Switch. This Game, looks bad to a Game, released in 2022 (It is produced by a really big Company). The Gameplay loop is boring, after 2-3 Hours of gameplay. The performance is a joke. The things that are good, are the 2 companions they get. quirky Dragon Quest characters, that are fun to look at and talk to. But, overhaul. Bad. Maybe if they released it on the PC version, People could make it a better Game. (Like Rune Factory 5 was made much better, with certain mods.) But, for the People that enjoyed it, good for them. But i, and many more, where not happy with it. Sad to see.

I hated how in development this game was planned to be a monsters game like the joker series. But in past interviews the creator said it feels like we take 2 steps forward and one step back and it shows. It tries to have the monsters elements while also trying to be unique. Honestly if they just kept this game as like joker 4 or something i personally would've liked it more. Idk about the rest of the world. It just looks like a hack and slash with extra steps tbh.

I always avoid the side games because they always seem to be inside-joke/easter-egg driven. Even as a fan, collecting statues or items based on characters from previous games or encountering cameos from previous games... isn't that exciting. Also the premise always seems a bit far fetched and disconnected from the main series games. As if these games could have been any other game, except they just overlayed DQ IP over it. So even as a US DQ fan, there's nothing about these side games that appeal to me. The things I like about DQ are not in the side games, at all.

Preface: My opinion is heavily swayed by my Love for DQM as it was my introduction to the DQ series: It flopped because it wasn't what it was promised as. It wasn't a Monsters game. It started as and was promised as a Monsters game, then was cancelled and reworked into This. If it had started as it's entirely own thing and had no connection to the monsters game. I could look at it on its own, but I just couldn't. It really does leave a sour taste in your mouth you cant ignore. When you are playing the game, all you can think about is what it could have been, what it should have been. So I couldn't bring myself to finish it. I like many aspects of the game, and some of the ideas, but I feel like all of those aspects would have just worked so much better in a Monsters game. Like everything about Treasures could have been naturally worked into Monsters. And they would be welcome additions to the Monsters gameplay loop. This game failed but it does have serious potential, just not as its own thing. Take the best ideas of Treasures and rework them into the next Monsters in a way that feels natural and the next Monsters game will blow everyone away. I mean the last 3 were all incredible improvements in succession upon the last. I believe Yuji Hori will pull it off again with the next Monsters game.

i especially love the DQ Monster series. For me, Treasure is a big flop because there is only 72 monsters in the bestiary with a LOT of re-color (3 to 6 monster of same colors sometimes) which is a lot less compared to others DQ in general, but espiacially Monster. For exemple there is more than 350 monsters (800+ for the Pro version) in DQM2 and DQM3, so there is more diversity and more capacity to create the team you want. In DQ9, you have almost 300 monsters to fight, but what make the game really cool is all the equipement you can collect. In treasure, you just have little tokens. That's just sad.

I don’t have much to complain about at all. I honestly just think people are being way too harsh on the game. We get it- it’s not monsters. That doesn’t mean you need to judge it unfairly. Why was Sackchief holding back so much? Ha ha. Seriously though, I had some interest in this game despite how it appeared to be targeted at a younger audience but reading similar reviews to his about how shallow the game was is what turned me off from checking it out. I like the concept of recruiting monsters but I also want an RPG with an interesting world, a good sense of progression (whether that's through character building, story, or ideally, both), and enjoyable combat. And apparently this game falls far short of Dragon Quest 11 in all of those areas, so why bother? Square-Enix seems to think that people are stupid and can't tell when they're putting out a minimal effort side game or remaster versus when they put out a more high effort and big budgeted release. And it's been damn obvious for a while that the only thing they really care about is milking the FF7 nostalgia, keeping their FF14 gravy train rolling, and hoping that FF16 restores some of the luster the mainline series has lost.

I think there is a couple big factors in this game flopping. I think they were trying to appeal to kids the wouldn't care much how graphically impressive it was also with what seems to be not a lot of world building or particularly interesting environments. To go along with that it only released for Switch when DQ games generally sell best on PlayStation consoles (though personally I was hoping for an Xbox version).

Apart from the fact that Dragon Quest is a franchise focused on the Japanese market, where Switch is WAY more popular than the last Playstation consoles, your statement isn't even true for the West, lol. The only reason DQXI sold more on Playstation is because it released way earlier than the Switch version. And in Japan the 3DS version came up on top (in 2017, when it was basically dead, mind you!).
