It's just so refreshing to have such a grounded sci-fi experience. I feel like the one thing that like low budget tv shows do is have a lot of these sorts of things, just due to like. budget restrictions. So even if it's campy, or the effects are bad, you've got a solid foundation for the viewer to be right there with the characters, and therefor more likely to be engaged and immersed in whatever world you're creating. Love getting that with a longform piece; more care able to be placed on everything due to format, length of production/post, budget etc. Great points, love this avenue you're breaking ice on!

I loved this version of Dune and we saw it in the theater twice. I'm hoping it will win at least a few Oscars because that will help encourage faithful, artistic adaptations of other science fiction and fantasy films. It was honestly very refreshing to watch something other than a superhero or franchise film

I’m thinking it’s going to win at LEAST 2 between Cinematography, Score, Sound, and Visual Effects
@michiganscythian24452 жыл бұрын
My guess is production design and visual effects but would like to see them win more. I think "Power of the Dog" is going to be the Academy darling

Repeat-viewing of this gem. Love this switch between tutorials and these essay/project-type videos. You're showing us what to do (ie. Tutorials), and what it can look like when we have done something enough (I.e. the expertise reflected in these projects). Keep it up 👊

100% spot on. This film will remain as a Masterpiece of the genre in my opinion. This should be use in teaching cinematography schools.

Outstanding video. Learnt something new about how Dune actually portrayed scale

Even the sweeping shots are done as though made by a human. During the harvester scene you can notice how the camera struggles with tracking the flying ornithopters and drones. Completely artificial of course, there's no a reason for a CGI camera to struggle with any of that. But it does, to keep the immersion.

I recently discovered your amazing channel through searching for some tutorials online, I found the VHS effect one I must say, your channel really is something else and focuses so much on the little details - it's great I subscribed 👍

I was going to leave a comment but I had to watch the movie first and I have to say that I’m very impressed the entire movie was very realistic it made me feel like I was there experiencing the story for myself. Sci-fi movies like Star Wars never appealed to me it was all so unrealistic that I couldn’t feel immersed by it. Dune reminded me of Interstellar it had a similar vibe in my opinion. Anyways thank you so much for this video can’t wait to see what you’ve got up your sleeve. I can’t believe you’re still only at 14k subs and not many views you take your craft very seriously and it’s honestly the best out there on KZbin I believe in you, you will definitely make it big.

Not sure it's necessary to dis other director's work to show your appreciation for "naturalistic" lighting. I am sure they all had good reasons for their choices and not just for clarity or "oh wow" reactions. Kubrick esp. was never so superficial.

Dune was one of the only films I loved but couldn't wait to end. The cinematography was incredible but the editing could've been way tighter.
@AcademyOfEdits2 жыл бұрын
I agree it definitely hit a bit of a lull in the second half, the first half was really solid though loved every second of it!

@@AcademyOfEdits totally agree. My last straw was the slow close-up on ever single person watching the final fight, which ended up being longer than the fight itself. 😴

Disagree 100%. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I didn't want it to end. I didn't find it at all too long. I was captivated and engaged through the whole movie.

what set dune apart... the crappy almost no existent script. the visuals were stunning but the screen writers did a terrible job. not that im surprised given the guy from prometheus and passengers wrote most of it. i swear A Quiet Place had more dialogue than this version of dune.
@theworld59372 жыл бұрын
Yeah I am kind of disappointed by Dune. The fighting scenes were really weak and pacing was not good. Something about it just felt detached for me.
