As we're hit by an ever-worsening tsunami of lifestyle-related chronic disease, the message that "real food saves lives" is more vital than ever.
In this very straight-talking conversation, Dr Aseem Malhotra shares what everybody urgently needs to know about our food, to protect our precious health. Dr Malhotra is one of the most influential cardiologists in Britain and is spearheading a much-needed campaign against excess sugar consumption. He is co-author of The Pioppi Diet and author of the brand new book, The 21-Day Immunity Plan.

Here's a hard-hitting video I made with Dr Malhotra on Lynda and Mike Sackett - a very emotive example of how our diet can harm or heal us:

Here's a short animation I made about Professor John Yudkin, who also spoke out against the harmful effects of sugar - and was also bullied for it.

Compliments to Dr. Malhotra for emphasising the banning of Ultra processed food and adopting a healthy lifestyle. I totally agree that children and college students as well, should learn the life skills of cooking. Indeed, cooking healthy meals is fun, therapeutical and beneficial to health!

Why a refreshing, simple, fundamental and powerful message. It makes me hopeful that change for the better is inevitable with the likes of Dr Haseem Malhotra pushing things along. It is very inspirational and motivating.

That is why I hate medications; many doctors don't have the full knowledge of the actual secondary effects. If you take care of your foods your body will take care of you.

My diabetic mother in law was in the hospital and the dietician came in and was talking about how they were trying to get her sugar under control. I asked her if the large bagel, bowl of cream of wheat, glass of orange juice and cartoon of skim milk had anything to do with it! I told her that she didn’t eat this garbage at home! She was so dumbfounded and asked what I fed her so I told her 2 egg omelet with real cheese and hot tea without sugar. Her blood sugars were in a non diabetic range not 300+ that they are here! So sad! My husband who was taught to eat poorly from his mom is now a non diabetic just this year. It took watching his mom go through what she went through and passing away just after Christmas. She had vascular dementia and we now question if she had Covid 19 with everything that happened to her. What’s sad is people believe everything that is presented to them. I wonder if the food companies can get sued like big tobacco did!

You're right Tina - it's tragic. We just need to keep banging the drum and hoping that more and more people come to understand how to eat to stay healthy.

I often post on FB about LCHF and Keto and when people are genuinely interested I give them names., podcasts books, and websites to check out. Invariably they want chapter and verse from me including “ recipes please” 😁 I gently encourage the to do their own research but in general, they cannot be bothered. It’s a shame.

Yes, I also find people ask me to tell them exactly what to eat for each and every meal - but I think so much comes down to personal taste. I wouldn't want someone to tell me exactly what to eat any more than I'd want them to tell me what music to put on my Spotify list! I believe that, once we understand the few basic principles, we can tailor our food according to what we like and what suits us.

Suzy, can you possibly clarify for me your understanding of carbohydrate intake. Aseem was negative around highly processed bread, pasta, rice etc. but are the wholegrain and unadulterated versions of bread, flour, pasta etc in the same camp i.e. to be avoided? Thanks.

Hi Anne, you might want to read Grain Brain by Dr David Perlumtter. Also, check out the work of Dr David Unwin on this subject - hopefully that will clear this up for you.
