At the end of the end of the 12 minute Electro Suite, you hear Max singing quietly, then talking to others like he's in a studio. This is a tiny callback to a deleted scene where he tries to hum happy birthday to remind his mum that it's his birthday and she tells him to stop making noise and he goes "well, I never did take those singing lessons" (something like that). It just makes it even more tragic, because it shows what Max could've been in a happier life.

I heard that while I was editing the suite and didn’t really know what to make of it but I really like your interpretation! Poor Max 💔
@nathaniel2012 жыл бұрын
I think it's more of an Easter Egg since the suite's on the bonus CD. I believe it's Pharrell Williams doing the background voices and that sounds like him and Hans workshopping the piece. That's a fun interpretation though.
@nathaniel2012 жыл бұрын
@@JB-IGOR Could be. It's hard to find definitive information online. I just know the theme itself is primarily credited to Hans and Pharrell, so I always assumed it was him, but it could be Foxx as well. Listening to it closely again and comparing it to interviews of their speaking voices, it does sound a bit more like Foxx than Pharrell (especially in the "Yeah, okay"), but we also have to consider that it still seems like the voice is being altered a bit. It's also the only part of the song where you can hear him actually speaking and not whispering, so it's hard to get more data. You may very well be right though.

One thing that I found *really* interesting is that during the scene where Max is in the city, surrounded by people and police, he comes to his senses and doesn't understand what's truly happening. Meaning no harm, trying to not hurt anyone as he doesn't really realize that he has become something different, his theme song goes back to the way it was in the beginning. It was a way of saying that Max had came through just for a couple minutes, and when Peter was talking to him, trying to help him, his anger started to get the best of him and his theme goes back to the menace, evil sound.

This doesn’t necessarily relate to Electro’s theme but I used to always be under the impression that Max Dillon’s story was just a tragic tale of man being pushed to his breaking point because people didn’t treat him with common decency. But upon revisiting TAS2, I realize Electro is essentially a parallel of Spider-Man. In the comics (before the spider-bite), despite being quiet and well-mannered, it’s mentioned that if Peter had the power to, he would have exacted revenge on everyone that bullied him. However, his change in thinking was altered due to the death of his Uncle Ben. In the TAS2, Max Dillon is portrayed the same way as Peter Parker normally is; intelligent but nerdy which causes him to get overlooked and ridiculed. However, when he’s confronted with life-changing power, Max makes the decision to seek revenge because there is no “Uncle Ben” event for him. It’s kinda the same narrative that was used in the first Toby Spider-Man movie and I feel that if that narrative was pursued more, TASM2 could have been a lot better. Not sure if this was an obvious point, but I thought it was something worth sharing. Also good job on the videos! Please keep them coming!

What is really cool about Electro is that he is constantly getting stronger. He absorbs energy everywhere he goes, sucking up almost all the power in New York to the point of almost becoming pure energy himself. And that isn't even his maximum! When he gets sent to the MCU, he absorbs the residual energy from the Infinity Stones in the air, which allows him to form a new body that is unconsciously modeled to look like his ideal self rather than the nerd he used to be. Then when he gets the Arc Reactor, his potential power level skyrockets. If they hadn't unplugged him and sent him home, he could have potentially become one of the most powerful beings alive.

Wanted to add to the notes: At roughly 1:15, the voices pick up, and this reflects how the social anxiety and pressures of the world around him are pushing Max towards a more aggressive way out, that he's losing his ability to tolerate the rejection he experiences. This is reflected throughout the pre-electrocution section. Then at 1:51, when the violin cuts in, it reflects how Max is feeling about the fact that even on his birthday, nothing has changed, and he's still being treated as the same worthless person that everyone usually treats him as. This is amplified by the increasing volume and clarity of the voices of anxiety in the background. At 3:10, when the voices return as far more coherent and individual, it shows that Max has broken. He is no longer capable of tolerating the abuse levelled towards him, and he is now dispelling the cohort of anxiety with anger, reducing them from incessant and collective to temporary, individual and coherent. Things that are easier to focus on, and therefore easier to destroy. With the operatic transformation at 3:14, it shows that Max is now harnessing those fears and anxieties as empowering sources. It is also shown that he no longer cares about any of them, thinking them weak, by allowing them to become collective again, but they've all lost their voices, and simply become choral singing. And with the drop at 3:36-3:41, with all sounds disappearing except for a sizzling pulse of electricity and a high pitched train-track-screeching-like drone, it shows, like you said, how the fearful, anxious and weak Max Dilon has now been so utterly broken by the world around him and the electrocution, that his old personality has been obliterated. But on top of that, it displays how he is now using all of the things that held him down in the past to obliterate the one thing he views as the ultimate challenge, the epitome of his past abuse - Spiderman. And beyond 3:41, it reflects pure, utter power and emotional coherence and hatred of Spiderman, as well as the freedom and sense of rising above all else that he had been held down by. Electro's final section is a pure expression of hatred and power being focused and directed towards the destruction of one thing.

Before the drop, when it disappears completely, and only the electronic instruments are left.

It’s as if he doesn’t see any escape from the the way people treat him. The longer those thoughts loop for, the more corrosive and intense they get, and that’s exactly what happens in this piece. It’s like in your mind where you draw an unwanted conclusion from the way you view things, and you can’t find any other way to look at it, so it just becomes, this = this, and there is no alternative. I have loved this theme ever since I first heard it. I just absolutely love all of the little choices that go into it. Like the thumping that comes in around 1:20ish. Not only is it a sound that grips the audience and prepares for the break as it's building, but it's also so nice due to being Max's new flow. His initial theme is light, cowardly in it's meekness, always refusing to make itself heard as Max himself continues to take shit from the world. After the accident, we have this new thumping to represent Electro's new beating pulse, the new life in his veins. He's been reborn. And this is where the whispers begin. Where Max's identity and Electro's identity begin to meet. The whispers are Electro, telling Max what he should be feeling and doing while Max himself is lost in the thumping, lost in the white noise, lost in the sensory overload of everything. (Think of when he gets to Times Square and we see through his eyes. Everything is new, and Max is hungry for it) But then as Andrew and the police's mishaps begin to harass him, Electro begins to gain traction on Max. The pulse quickens and slows, with Electro's voice getting louder and louder until that crucial moment. The thumping stops. We're left with this clinging noise as if scratching on a chalkboard. And in his scene Max begins to speak. in this moment Max begins to echo what Electro is telling him. They lied to me, they shot at me, they hate me. And finally Max and Electro converge, Max being absorbed into Electro's unescapable mass as they vent their anger, their frustration, their beef with the world on one single target. That Spider-Man. He is my enemy. And then the beat drops, giving us the epitome of Electro's theme and representing his acceptance of madness and being awful, as his music produces the screams he wishes to shock out of the world. It's his birthday after all, and he's here to blow out his candles~ Edit: Just actually seen all of your commentary about the song. I hope people don't think I just copycatted, heh. This feels less like the annoying dubstep people claim it is. This is looking into the inner thoughts and psyche of a character, a character who has never been treated with an ounce of decency from anyone his entire life. Max is still a kind person, but experiences so much self-doubt and paranoia because of how people treat him. Eventually, this takes a turn when he's acknowledged by someone who is so famous, and a hero, no less. He begins to worship that person, imagining that they're best friends because of a few quick words that were shared. Spider-Man probably didn't think too much about what he had said to him, or how it might affect him. But when the people around him continue to push him around, he experiences a change, that gives him incredible power. He doesn't see it as a good thing at first, he's scared and confused, but it causes other people to see him. To *notice* him. When his hero tries to help figure out what's happening to him, he tells him: "They're not going to shoot you. Hey, you guys, this is my buddy, Max!" But because Spider-Man wasn't giving the orders, a fatal misunderstanding causes Max to lash out. His hero has to intervene, he wants to help Max, but knows that he's dangerous. This creates a turning point. Everyone is rooting for Spider-Man, and booing at Max. The positive attention (or so he thought) has been shifted. In Max's eyes, Spider-Man never cared about him, and only cared about selfishly protecting his image as a hero. He promised they wouldn't shoot at him, and they did. Max turns, and realizes that with this power, he can enact revenge on everyone who has ever wronged him, starting with Spider-Man. Unlike before, he is a man with power, and is out to make the rest of the world feel powerless, like he did for so long. "A world without power-.." "A world without mercy-.." "A world without Spider-Man-.." Max Dillon is dead, *now there is only Electro.*

The Dubstep is not annoying at all, honestly it feels like the most Dubstep from good Dubstep artists, flux pavilion, Neo, datsik, excision. This movie came out at the peak of Dubstep (for me) and used it wonderfully.

I loved it very much how you put those subtitles expressing actual motive and deep meaning of the tracks that were played. Only listening to the theme surely is awesome but reading and understanding the meaning behind the track, that just adds up so much energy. Commentry done so perfectly , got goosebumps.

this song is incredible i listened to the first couple seconds and then skipped to around 4mins and was shocked by how drastic the tone of the song had shifted and how different it sounded and i needed to know how the song got to that point, so i listened to the whole thing and... goddamn, if i were to describe this as a single sentence it would be: *the madness creeps in one way or another*. this song sounds like a descent into madness while trying to keep cool and pretend everything is and will be fine, until at 3:37 where the realization is made that everything is not ok and will not be ok, and the ones responsible for it are going to pay the orchestral parts representing the thoughts of "its going to be ok" as the whispers of doubt creep further and further until the orchestral part climaxes conflicting with the whispers of doubt, until its overtaken and gone completely, and the whispers and distorted notes and sounds take over from there perfectly represents Max's entire transformation to Electro

Yeah comparing the beginning and ending of the song really shows you how much it changes during the portrayal of the same character. It’s awesome stuff.

I love that analysis. To the point and presenting us with the studied material. Much better than those 40 minute essays, with 10 minute intros, where the subject is barely shown so that the author can wax pseudo-philosophy, to show how smart and educated he is.

8 years later and this theme still gives me absolute chills whenever I hear it. The vibe of Andrew’s Spider-Man was so much more real and dark than the other spidermen’s movies (still love Toby and Tom’s though), and all tiny tiny details like this soundtrack (and the insane graphics and quality in TASM2) make it so unique.
