@Vincent Louise Beltran. Bingo, you understand how mainstream music works. In order for an artist to break out into the mainstream, be it Rap or other types of genres, you either need backing from mainstream record companies or a gimmick that can sell. Eminem got success because of his Comedy Rap/Horrorcore style gimmick in his early years. Mainstream record companies have always targeted a young audience and groups like Slaughterhouse just don't resonate with a young audience.

I'd pinpoint it to two things: 1) The first album sounded too commercial and alienated their core fans at a crucial moment in their career 2) (the one none of them will admit to) There's no defining personalities within the group that could draw in new fans. Outside of hardcore hip hop circles, their appeal is weak. It's really evident in the marketing and bland visual presentation. They basically leaned entirely on their mic skills to sell themselves and assumed that would be enough. Besides that there isn't anything about them that really stands out and makes outsiders want to pay attention. That limited their appeal strictly to their established fanbases and essentially cripples their commericial potential right out of the gate.

I was a huge Slaughterhouse fan, Welcome to: Our House was off the mark but looking back, and taking it for what it is, it is a good album. But Royce hit it on the head when he said that too many pop songs were picked for that album. Now would it have sold more if it was fire? Probably, but it's hard to say. I went to see them live in Royal Oak (near Detroit) prior to the album dropping and it was a small venue, a couple hundred people there if that. So I don't know that the internet buzz translated to success, and that's all Em was going for with the pop tracks, so I don't blame him too much, because there was a time when Em was HEAVY promoting the group, moreso than any of the other rappers on his label other than 50 and Yelawolf, maybe.
@jalazel64472 жыл бұрын
The fault falls on Em & Paul. Em said, "oh, i just went in and polished it" when anyone who is thinking about music isnt thinking, lets polish Fucking Slaughterhouse 🤦♂️ Joe had an issue with how Em mixed it, and choose the tracklist without their input. Royce says as nicely as possible, that there was too many radio songs, and thats how Em wouldve done his own album without saying that he ruined the project thinking about money. Juelz straight up said management, and crook is sitting there blaming Joe bc to him as long as Joe wouldve shut up and let this happen, they couldve still been around 😂 its not hard to see. Shady tried to make Slaughterhouse into a Pop Rap super Group, favoritism towards Royce made the others hella jealous, Royce's loyalty to Em meant that Slaughterhouse wouldnt ever being going anywhere outside of Shady Records, Em and Paul wouldnt even let them open for him, then Em gonna act stupid to Sway. Griselda mustve been fighting for there lives at Shady.

RUN DMC (for example) felt *group-like* to the degree that it's difficult to imagine them as solo MC's. Secondly, "bars" DON'T guarantee great records✋ These guys can spit, but their songs don't connect with the public🤷♂️ For example... B.I.G. had far more than just "bars"...he had great OVERALL rap style, charisma and a keen perspective, which resulted in timeless classics; songs that are relatable💯 His songs *feel good*👍👍 He made it all seem so effortless, too..he had a knack for it👌 On the other hand... Not entirely true, their mixtapes were still fire - it was their official label debut that was a miss.

cant make rap groups or even hip hop and RnB groups anymore.. that was a 90s early 00s thing Wu-Tang, 112, D12, Boyz 2 Men, G-Unit, Ruff Ryders, D Block etc etc doesnt work anymore lol
@fighterck62414 жыл бұрын
The industry doesn't promote bands or groups to the extend they do solo artists for sure. Look at Black Hippy. Everyone knows the artists who comprised that group but few even know they were a group.

Chandros Evans there’s groups out there popping right now. Such as City Morgue, Buffet Boys, Suicide Boys. It’s a different sound, but there’s a lot of groups in the underground that go crazy

Chandros Evans what is “real” rap? Because the groups I mentioned sound a lot like early 90s Memphis rap. The original trap rappers. They’re inspired by other groups such as three 6 mafia and OutKast. Some even use metal as inspiration. They’re the ones actually experimenting with different sounds. Like I said it’s a different sound compared to wu tang or something like that but it comes from a lineage almost as old as wu tang yet far less respected by “real” hip hop heads. Maybe don’t just dismiss certain artists by their sound if you don’t know the history or the genre?

shorter attention spans and most people dont buy albums/cds anymore just a single if that - most just listen on youtube/spotify/etc or download illegal bootleg

As far as lyrics and rapping it was off the charts . The beats were lacking tho that’s pretty much it . Can’t name a better group tho even 10 years later . No one can top this

The problem was it was a grassroots hip-hop group and gain momentum then went commercial too quick the crowd couldn’t connect because they did not establish their sound

Incorrect photo credit in reference to The Four Horseman. The group Royce was referring to consisted of Ras Kass, Canibus, Killah Priest and Kurupt. Not Ultramagnetic MC's whose picture was used.

It’s really annoying listening to Joell explain what happened after hearing Joe rant for 2 hours about all of it being Em’s fault. It just sounds like some bad choices were made about the direction they decided to take. Their beats got a little too commercial/mainstream. Nobody wanted to hear pop features on their album. They never should have put Skylar Grey or Ceelo Green on their debut. Those are the exact same mistakes Eminem has made this decade. People want HipHop, not pop/rock fusion. Eminem lost a lot of his original fan base when he strayed too far but he has such a huge fan base it didn’t really matter. Slaughterhouse didn’t have that same luxury.

listeners want 'concept' albums with personal lyrics that tells a story. slaughterhouse didnt give us that.
