In this video, I explain why I consider Europe to be a much more livable place than the USA in terms of practically every metric pertaining to quality of life. It goes without saying that neither Europe nor the USA are monoliths, and neither should be treated as such. But given my relatively limited sample size, I make use of reasonable generalizations to drive home my point: Europe provides a higher quality of life than the USA in 2023 (and likely beyond).

Nah bro 😂. I would never move back to Europe till it stops being socialist and communist. I'm Czech and I act more slavic and eastern European is better than western in my opinion. Also there are economic issues, it's so expensive compared to a normal suburban area or even many state capitals. Gas is crazy, you have crazy taxes in most European nations. The USA is the best overall world side. Also you have more opportunities to make money in the USA . I would move to South America though as I love it. However it's also true about socialism and communism there but it's actually cheaper and it's nice

Jordan, I enjoyed your video so very much and agree, 100% with everything you said. I’m an old white lady Chicago native and have spent time in Italy. Europe is a socialist democracy and it works so well people respect each other more than they do here. no guns Little crime it’s much easier to live there the food everywhere, and good fresh food! Not process junk! And because people walk and bicycle everywhere, they are healthier physically, but they talk to each other more and form a closer community. And then not to mention the horrible politics going on in the USA! As an African-American man, I believe you are better off where you are, and I hope you have spent the time in Europe since you’ve made this video a year ago. As a 57 year old from NY and in great shape, who has travelled to europe 20 times in the 6 years, I have never had a problem finding fresh food, may pay a bit more but then again we make a lot more. You see all the migrants they are allowing in with basically no check, the flood and change in the types of immigrant, and ultra liberalism has killed the american dream, The bronx pre 1960 was a nice place to live, then the europeans moved out and then the new residents made it a war zone. We did not have the issues we have now, and it started in the 1960s as we became increasingly liberal and the type of of immigrant changed. from a non white immigrant to america.

And it was built by people who were also stolen. EVERY treaty with American Indians, as well as with Spain and Mexico were broken. I don’t find immigrants to be the problem. @@robertplant2059 No it is the greedy conservatives that destroyed the American dream. In the 1960s the companies shared their profits across the board so all employees benefited. Now, the people at the top get gigantic raisee and everyone else gets pennies. The US on average is listed as the MOST racially tolerant country in the world. and its actually by pretty big margins The US has a super high quality of life, Most americans have great work balances, coming from someone who lives in both AND is half european and american. I think that the european mindset is different from the american mindset, where europeans usually prefer to live and relax calmer; albeit less eventful lives. They Retire early, Spend time walking around, Go to the store more often, Relax with longer vacations, although usually not make their means better, and instead focus on their life. the american mindset is usually about always taking huge risks and trying to push to the top; And this shows: The top 1% in america makes about $800K a year, and 23% of americans will make it there at some point in their lifetime. about 60% of americans will make it to the top 25% income range (about $200K a year), and this is usually what a lot of people in general refer to as the american dream. This is a huge reason why america has the highest number of immigrants compared to any other country. And yes europeans do have things like public transportation, But I've lived in New York City for roughly 8 years, and i didnt even know anyone who owned a car! I currently reside in the US, and I find life to be really peaceful over here. A thing nobody talks about is living in places like the rural and suburban parts of the US, because those are honestly where most of the citizens reside. And I think people usually focus on some stuff and leave out other stuff, like for example, trees! One thing of the first things that immigrants say about the US is the vast diverseness of wildlife and the huge population of natural-grown trees and bushes, just out in the open, even in the middle of the city. I find those to affect me in my day-to-day life just as much as the other things. I think that it really just depends on who you are, and what kind of mindset you want. I think one of the big reasons people looked up to america in the 50s is because people generally had a much larger need to incite change, and a much larger entreprenurial spirit, compared to now where a lot of millenials (not so much gen-Z) want to live calm, peaceful lives, and not try to incite large amounts of change in their lifestyle (and community), and usually just dont want to take many risks in life.

You were lucky to get out alive and that some random person, or policeman, did not just pull a gun and pull the trigger, for some random thing that you might have done to irritate them, that you were unaware of. Awful society of arrogant, ignorant, loud, demanding, self-centred and greedy people, with no manners, care, consideration, or compassion for anyone but themselves. With false smiles and social pleasantries which are so fake that they almost make themselves choke when saying them. All they care about is themselves and how much money they can make at your expense and what you might be able to do for them to enable them to acquire it. And their ignorance of any other country and culture in the World is the epitome of their arrogance. Of course, a broad generalisation, but in my extensive experience there, this characterises their society and many of its members.

@@dfdf-rj8jr the US is currently ranked 20th for standard of living. That is lower than 13 European countries. Apparently they don't tell you that on Fox News based on your desperate assertion. You want organic food, there's farmers markets (yes they do exist there), if you earn low wages, salary, there is free healthcare, housing, and food benefits you can get from the state. You want to take a walk in the park, there's a bunch of parks and beaches to do that. Owning a car, you don't need to because public transportation is everywhere. You want to drink a coffee, there are terraces and cafes all over. You want better work life balance, then work a part-time job or do some freelancing. one of the biggest reasons food is cheaper in Europe is that the farm-to-table process is less convoluted. In USA or North America, there is much more third party involvement in getting food to the table. Also regulations are so tight in Europe --- what we in North America call Organic, is considered the "norm" in Europe. The farmers and the government in Europe are aligned (not saying there is NO issues, but aligned) and this causes less political influence on fair pricing. The other thing --- which is just as important, Europe supports small businesses. Per capita most European countries have more small grocers (family owned) then North America, large grocers are more common, which in many cases support politicians, and this is how it starts to muddy the waters.

@@Commanderof1984 You pay taxes, don't you? And then pay your health Insurance every month which still doesn't guarantee full coverage and then you then have out-of-pocket expenses. With the amount you pay for health insurance alone, why do you still have medical bills? and are held hostage by Insurance companies who can dictate what they will and will not cover. I live in the UK and pay 20% tax and that includes my healthcare full coverage for myself and my family. I have two neurological conditions, a congenital heart defect, and a thyroid problem had a pregnancy with complications and many other things along the way. I have had decades of treatment and have been under the care of many specialists and consultants Cardiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, ENT consultants, audiologists etc. Decades of countless blood tests, MRI/MRA scans, echocardiograms, ECGs, and 24-hour tapes to monitor my heart, X-rays, hearing tests, surgeries, procedures, physiotherapy, ambulance calls-outs, Pre-hospital care, hospital stays, doctor call-outs to my home day or night, A&E visits, broken bones, antenatal care, postnatal care and a whole lot more not to mention all the healthcare and treatment from my primary care doctors surgery and a lot of my dental care. The cost to me is £0. I pick up my prescriptions every month from my pharmacy and pay £0. Medications are free for many chronic health conditions. Medications are also free to Children under 18, People aged 60 and over, People who are unemployed, Pregnant women, People in education, and People who can't work due to illness or disability. For people who do pay for their medications, all prescriptions are £9.65. All forms of birth control are free as are all vaccinations. If I stopped working tomorrow nothing regarding my healthcare would change. It's insane in the USA that your healthcare is tied to your employer. The USA is the only country in the entire developed world that does not have human rights and employment rights mandated by law. Instead of employment rights that every employee is entitled to and has to have by law. The US has benefits dictated to them by their employers who are allowed to treat their employees like 19th century workers. In the UK every employee has a minimum of 5.6 weeks of paid vacation a year which you can build more and begins the day you start your job. Paid Sick Leave: If you are sick you get paid. I was off work for 6 months on paid sick leave with a condition I have. If you are sick while you are off work on your paid vacation you do not lose those days they will be counted as paid sick days and you claim those paid vacation days back. The same applies if you're off work for a long period of time on paid sick leave you are still entitled to your 5.6 weeks of paid vacation. Paid Bereavement Leave: My sister took 5 months off work on paid bereavement leave when her son died. Paid Parental Leave: 52 weeks of Paid Statutory Maternity Leave. usually, the earliest you can start is 11 weeks before the expected week of childbirth. Leave will also start the day after you gave birth if the baby is early. Automatically if you're off work for a pregnancy-related illness in the 4 weeks before the baby is due. Employers must give pregnant employees time off for antenatal care and pay the normal rate for this time off. Fathers can take Paid Paternity Leave. Women are not signed off from their postnatal care after they leave the hospital midwives visit your home for the first two weeks to check on the health of mum and baby. If you are returning to work after a long period off on paid sick leave your employer has to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate you such as going part-time, taking more breaks, adapting your workspace, etc. If you need time off work for hospital appointments etc you get paid. You can't get fired for ridiculous reasons like you can in the USA because employees are protected by their employment rights. My daughter is going into her third year of College the cost to her will be £0. Compared to the rest of the developed world Americans are still living in the 19th century in how the country treats its citizens.

Spain is even considered one of the lower income countries in Western Europe, together with like Italy and Greece (not west Europe). I live in Denmark. I can recognise most of what you say about European countries. Crime is very low, so we don’t even spend much on police. I thinks it’s because of the social security, that nobody is left on the street unless they either have some mental illness or choose specifically to live on the street. I don’t think there is anywhere in my country that is considered unsafe to go, even at night. I often hear stories of Dane’s that go to the US as tourists and when they walk some street they are told by Americans to avoid going there or afterwards when they tell they walked in the evening from the hotel and trough some streets, that they should feel lucky for not being robbed etc. and should avoid this and that area. And don’t get me started on 6 weeks of vacation (with full salary), plus 5 holidays, 1 year of maternity leave with salary. If you loose your job you get up to 80% of your salary from the government for 2 years to not be ruined if it’s difficult to get a new job etc.

Europe definitely is not a country - but the ideas he's mentioning in his video are pretty much universal across the whole continent. Europeans, in general, prefer collectivity. And that IS a major difference from the US. I'm Norwegian, so I understand the cost point you make. There's definitely price differences across the various countries in Europe. But the general idea that everyone should be able to participate at least at a basic level, is fundamentally different from how most Americans think.

@@rexx9496 That's why in Europe, in Germany, a social security system was created in the 19th century. We all pay to one insurer. Not everyone has neurosurgical operations, fortunately. From the common fund, the insurer pays for operations. Only once we paid 10 percent tax, and now 40 tax for the same services. It's not free. There are people who never get sick and pay all their lives. The health insurance premium is also collected. Americans do not pay such high taxes but they insure themselves. Interesting comparison Jordan. I live in Spain, but I'm from Italy and I know pretty well also France. All you said is very true, your sensations correspond to reality, generally speaking. Talking about poverty, I've been several times to the US, big and smaller cities and I can tell that in the US the population of homeless peaople is 10 times bigger than Europe. My feeling is that the US Society is more based on personal success an not on collective wellness. If you reach "the american dream" then you are up on the hills, but if you fail you are seen as a loser and you end up on the street. In Europe we have a better sense of collectivity and, even if there are lots of people in a better position, the majority are mid and working class. We live in apartments, true, but we have a closest relation with the City life, we all have an historical center with restaurant, shops and lot of life. The cities in the US (apart from NY, Boston, SF and few others) don't really have a Center and people live faraway with less social relations. We could talk about this for hours.

America is too big to get around effectively without a car. Even in Boston and DC and New York a lot of people still own cars. Those cities have huge suburbs where people live in one place and then have to commute 50 or 100 miles to get to their job. Boston has a population 675,000 but has nearly 5 million people living in the adjacent suburbs. The suburbanites outnumber the city dwellers 7 to 1. That is in America's most compact city. The US has a super high quality of life, Most americans have great work balances, coming from someone who lives in both AND is half european and american.

US median incomes by purchasing power parity (which account for healthcare, education costs, etc.) are the 2nd-highest in the world, and higher than every country in Europe except Luxembourg. Europoors will keep coping though. They lost their position in the world after World War 2 and to add insult to injury, they have a lower standard of living than America. Gini coefficient went from 0.43 to 0.49. It's not like it doubled. Also, higher economic inequality doesn't mean lower income people live worse. It just means rich people own a higher percentage of the cake, but if the cake is bigger, poor people may be better off anyway.

I believe the differences you see are respect for other people, respect for other people’s property and respect for themselves. Its a small word, the meaning of which is disappearing all over the world but faster in some countries. It used to be taught at home, in schools, by the police and extended family. Now in some parts of America, UK, Australia etc, it is slowly disappearing. RESPECT!

One thing I miss about Europe that I wish we had in Southern Cali is public squares. Just open areas with tables where you can sip coffee, catch up with people, and just take in life. I feel like our cities are designed to make us feel like we're on our way somewhere else, and it's hard to catch a breath.

The lack of what most Europeans would consider basic worker protection and guaranteed healthcare here in the US is just embarrassing. @metalmythology6282 true, but none of those things are really inherently mutually exclusive with European "democratic socialist" models. The deregulation trend the US has been on since post-WWII has undoubtedly led to increased greed/inequities in several arenas (fossil fuel lobbying, big pharma and ridiculous drug prices, car dependence, for-profit prisons, college tuition and access to education). Not to mention outside the major liberal population centers the US as a whole lags behind many western nations in LGBTQ+ treatment/rights and treatment of marginalized groups overall. I have no opinion on guns, but look at the statistics for firearm-related incidents/deaths by country - whether you chalk it up to the overall freedom/individualist culture or lax gun laws in certain states I don't know, but not really anything to be proud of regardless.

Here is some reason why Europe is better. 1. No one will shoot you even step on their toes 2. If you knock on their door, they will ask you, Do you need help. In the US, be careful 3. Many cultures and food, not a busy lifestyle 4. Good metro and train system and airports 5. House Rent is not expensive 6. Easy to get jobs 7. No tipping culture
