Great stuff Dr. H! Yes, starting small is the way to go. My journey started with swearing off ALL added sugar. 8 months later I got rid of fruits and grains. After that I moved to 100% carnivore and just had my one year carniversary in November. Started lifting weights regularly for the first time ever (I"m 51) four months ago. I have steady, increased energy compared to the SAD-eating me two years ago. Most people around me think it's crazy but that in itself is somewhat entertaining for me!! I was a guy who ate total garbage all the time and weighed 50 pounds more than I do now. To anyone reading this: If I can do this, you DEFINITELY can do this!!!

Haha, I'm feeling the winter blues a little! Kind of went into hibernation soon as the sun went away. But we get some sun and I perk right up. Maybe just me, but carnivore has made me very sensitive to when the sun is up or down, or even sunny versus cloudy. I should blast myself with light each morning, it does help!

My husband always thought I was weird using my SAD light at kitchen table each morning. Jokes on him, I started tilting it towards him just a bit. By the next week he was saying "I think that thing might just work!" I've also used it while working full-time and going to school full-time. I would use it at night when I was studying and feeling tired after work. It would perk me up so I could get a few extra hours in of studying. Thanks @DrTonyHampton for all you do. Love your cooking videos.

@DrTonyHampton Ohhh...I feel your pain Doc...I grew up in Roseville, MN.. about 4 miles from Mpls, but technically in St. Paul, and when I was a host on QVC, attended a Housewares Convention in Chicago in January 🥶! YIKES When we went to Hawaii, in the late 60s in the month of October, to visit my brother on his R&R from Vietnam, and it was so beautiful, so warm... palm trees, not pine. At 13, I looked at my parents and said, "What the HELL are we living in Minnesota for, when THIS is the way it is in OTHER parts of the world??? I NEVER understood how our ancestors landed here, experienced a winter, and thought it was a good idea to stay. LOL

As much as many people enjoy meat, it’s unfortunately an inefficient way to get calories or protein. Eating grains or beans ourselves can feed many more people than feeding them to animals to produce meat. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), global livestock production is responsible for nearly 15 percent of all human-related greenhouse gases. In an independent study published in 2018, researchers Joseph Poore and Thomas Nemecek used a variety of methods to estimate that livestock production was responsible for a similar share of global emissions around 2010, about 15 percent.
@DrTonyHampton2 күн бұрын
While grains and beans may seem more "efficient," the nutritional quality matters. Animal protein is complete, highly bioavailable, and nutrient-dense in ways plant foods can’t match, especially for essential nutrients like B12, heme iron, and DHA. Furthermore, regenerative livestock farming can sequester carbon, improve soil health, and restore ecosystems, challenging the narrative that all animal agriculture is harmful to the environment. Studies often generalize across farming methods, ignoring these benefits. Efficiency isn't just about calories-it's about the quality and sustainability of the nutrition provided.

@@DrTonyHampton I think that our protein food, in the future, will be made by Bacteria. Bacteria can make a protein-rich paste from nitrogen, hydrogen and ammonia, which is suitable for consumption. Traditional food production depends on agricultural methods, which require enormous amounts of water and land. Food production, as we know it, is completely dependent on land and weather conditions.

What is a nutrient dense food ? Shouldn't a nutrient dense food be based per calorie , bang per buck ? If that's the case Kale is more nutrient dense than any animal product, magnesium , potassium K 2 etc . according to Chronometer. Why do people confuse animal products energy dense vs nutrient dense?
@DrTonyHampton2 күн бұрын
Nutrient density is indeed a critical concept, but it’s important to consider more than just the raw nutrient profile of a food. While kale and other leafy greens can show high levels of certain nutrients on tools like Cronometer, there are nuances to nutrient density that aren't fully captured in such analyses. Bioavailability Matters: Nutrients in animal products are generally more bioavailable than those in plants. For example, the iron in meat (heme iron) is far more easily absorbed by the body than the non-heme iron found in plants like kale. Similarly, zinc, calcium, and other essential minerals in plants are often bound by antinutrients like oxalates and phytates, which reduce their absorption. Kale, for instance, contains calcium, but only about 5-10% is absorbed due to oxalate content, compared to the much higher absorption rate of calcium from dairy or bone-in fish. Complete Nutrient Profile: Animal products provide essential nutrients that are either missing or present in minimal amounts in plants. For example, vitamin B12, heme iron, retinol (active vitamin A), and DHA/EPA (long-chain omega-3s) are only found in significant quantities in animal-based foods. While kale contains vitamin K1, the conversion to K2 (a critical nutrient for bone and cardiovascular health) is inefficient in humans. Energy and Satiety: Animal foods like meat and eggs not only offer a dense array of nutrients per calorie but also provide protein and healthy fats, which are essential for satiety and long-term metabolic health. Leafy greens, while low in calories and containing some nutrients, lack the complete protein profile and healthy fats needed for overall nutritional sufficiency. The Antinutrient Factor: Kale and other leafy greens contain antinutrients like oxalates, goitrogens, and phytates, which can interfere with the absorption of calcium, iodine, and other vital nutrients. This means that while kale might appear nutrient-dense on paper, the body may not be able to utilize all of those nutrients effectively. In contrast, animal products don't contain antinutrients, and their nutrients are in forms that are readily absorbed and utilized by the body. For those reasons, I’d argue that meat and other animal-based foods are not only nutrient-dense but also provide nutrients in a more usable form, making them superior for achieving optimal health.

Biologically speaking, humans are omnivores: we can eat both plant and animal food to survive. The production of meat and dairy generally has a greater impact on the environment than plant-based alternatives. It requires more energy, manure, water and land area. In addition, livestock farming causes more greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen.
