First, be aware that someone will eventually steal your trailer, no matter what. While locks can slow a thief down, they won't stop them. A GPS tracker or Apple AirTag can help you locate it, but a savvy thief will likely remove it. Additionally, tires can get expensive fast, and trailer tires don’t last as long as standard vehicle tires. Don't forget about the cost of tags for both the tow vehicle and the trailer-you’ll need to pay for those as well. Also, ensure both the trailer and tow vehicle are commercially insured-you don’t want to learn that lesson the hard way. Your truck is your workhorse-make sure to keep it well-maintained. Also, be sure to fully understand all the DOT regulations. Highway Patrol can and will shut you down in an instant if you're not compliant A cheap $8,000 trailer will rust, buckle, and break. The weld points, thin metal, and low-quality paint will be a disaster when something goes wrong. If you're looking for something durable and well-built that will last, expect to pay at least $12,000 for a quality made trailer. Double check and verify state and local laws. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Professional junk removal is a premium service that not everyone can afford. It's like having a private housekeeper or personal concierge. Roll-off rentals are for those of us who, like many, can do the job ourself. The list goes on.... 💸The real fun and money begins when you're operating class 7 roll off trucks. 💸

Another risk is what is being dumped and how much. You can't control that, and the regulations and fees from your local landfill will eat into any profit if you don't do it right

I'm starting this year, junk removal I control what goes in charge as much dumpsters plus labor fees next year I hope to start dumpsters with your credit card on file and I'll pass those fees right back to customer

So, do the people that rent out the trailer get rid of the trash too? I wonder what the expense of dumping the trash would be

Depends on the contents, but the typical load gets dumped as household hazardous waste. You get wayed entering and leaving the landfill, and your charged for the wight of your drop off.

Clicked on this by accident. Got intrigued. And then... I think it's interesting how you saw this restriction as harmful to the small business owner, as if people shouldn't have to preserve the environment.

The total costs of business are for other people according to business owners and those who pitch to them.

There are some other factors not being accounted for. Not all or even most trailers can be towed by any pickup truck. Each vehicle has a gvwr & gcwr weight limit. Some of these dump trailers empty are the max tow capacity of most smaller and some 1/2 ton trucks. This is a massive safety hazard and will overwork your vehicle if it’s overloaded. The larger you go the bigger truck you need and thus your repair bills go up. Most rental places won’t rent you trailers based on your truck size. You go up past the gvwr rating of 26000lbs you’re now in commercial territory and need a CDL. Cost goes up again. Now factor in a new diesel truck that run a minimum of $60000 to tow these units. Just more food for thought. 🤓 Dump trailers are an absolute force multiplier in the contracting industry.

It definitely varies by region as well. In parts of Ohio and Indiana you can get a 20-yard roll-off for, believe it or not, around $400 from large rental companies that run their own dump yards.

10k requires Dot number even without CDL which most guys don't have nor display properly but all you have to do is tell cop "personal use" and most of these guys and landscape guys get away with this, me I have 1 million in vehicle insurance and another 1 million in business insurance and of course DOT numbers and only do junk removal to control and make sure dumps don't fine or kick me out
