Prices on macs are much better in the US, I can understand your frustration with having to pay that much. However, almost all of the issues with macOS you mentioned have shortcuts that make it faster and easier. While you can get similar memory and storage on a windows laptop for cheaper, what you dont get is exceptional build quality, a great screen, and a processor that's ridiculously fast and can last over 15 hours on one charge. I'm not even an apple fanboy, I just appreciate good hardware. I use an android and have a windows PC for gaming.

wait am sorry did you just say apple is exceptional build quality and a great screen you must not have seen any of louis rossmann vids on YT or linus vids apple build quality is not ok at best but built to destroy itself with normal use and the screens are good as apple don't make them Samsung or Sony does. Only good think is the apple processor that's good and fast at launch so first year maybe as that just gets nurfed after every update to make it slower to save battery power apple says really just to make it feel slow so you buy a new mac.

Obvious trolling, but I'll play along. 0:05 - the Mac mini M4 is $600, find a comparable new Windows desktop with matching performance for that much. You might find a couple, but it will be very rare 0:49 - Not sure what you're talking about. I'm writing this on my ergonomic keyboard with a Windows layout and all the keyboard shortcuts work fine. Yes, command/option/control is confusing. But your precious Linux Thinkpad has Windows key/Alt/Control too, so not really any real difference there. 2:05 - MacBooks aren't cheap, but I wouldn't say they're a rip off. Again, find me a compatible Windows laptop that matches the Macbook's price to performance ratio. Again, it will be slim pickings. 2:45 - The Finder app has the downloads folder by default. You removed it. 3:13 - MacOS treats open programs differently than Windows. I'll give you that - it doesn't work for everyone. I personally have no issue, I just let open programs stay open in the background and let macOS clean up apps that it deems worthy of closing when it needs to. It is actually less work for me than managing running apps on Windows. 3:50 - yes, this is very true. Lots of people use Macs for the "cool" factor and would be perfectly well served by a $200 Microsoft surface pro. Like my wife says, the worst part about Apple is the fanboys.

You let a program open, want to come back to it after an hour to then recognize, it got fully closed in the background. It would make me furious. But I gotta admit, I am the 100% opposite of a casual computer user. Everything I do is very specific, and I do not want any automation going on. The computer should only do exactly what I tell it to, and not make any decisions on it's own, unless I configured some software to do that. Which is also why Windows drives me nuts and I hate it and I will switch to linux soon.

Unified ... It's still RAM. Unified just means it's not split between the CPU and iGPU - both get access to full 16 GB.

@@panthera8286 It's not ddr4 ram, by having the unified memory on the same motherboard as the blazing fast gpu, cpu, and neural networks. This increases the memory bandwidth to a level your windows laptop that you buy in 10 years won't have. The implication is that is far more efficient and faster than regular ram.

I bought an iPhone because I wanted a more or less secure, stable OS with a pretty UI. Then I bought a MacBook because of the Retina screen, iCloud sync with my iPhone, and better apps for macOS. Next, I got Apple’s keyboard, mouse, and an adapter to connect my MacBook to a second screen. Then I bought an iPad because I wanted to read eBooks and sync with iCloud and Notes. And now I’m trapped in the Apple ecosystem, dreaming about building MY OWN ECOSYSTEM, developing MY OWN apps as alternatives to Apple’s, setting up MY OWN server to sync and store everything, and preparing to switch to Linux and Android.

The alt-key is the option key. The command key is "windows" button. I run Debian on my 2012 mac mini, which cost me less than $100.

Apple devices are a masterpiece of hardware, but the software is for children. "macOS" was a masterpiece until Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.7 (don't know when the Appstore arrived) came along. From that point everything got worse. They changed the whole OS to the same playground for children as they did from the start with iOS. Bad, very bad. Thankfully I don't have to use macs anymore for work, my Linux workstations are a blast and besides the memories to the old Mac OS X versions it don't miss anything. But as I see your whole criticism goes to the usability, that doesn't matter to me 🙂Takes a few days, and I'm fine with it.

I've been using Windows for over 18 years and recently switched to the m4 Mac mini which is performance packed and has sped up my workflow but yes when it comes to UI, Windows is way ahead in terms of overall usability. Some of the things are better on Mac like grouping of new tabs together in one single window like a browser to switch easily from one folder to the other and the overall clean look of the MacOS but sometimes it's ambiguous and makes me like the Windows experience more.

The keyboard is completely fine tho. Just use command as ctrl on windows that's literally all. Personaly never had any problems with my own keyboard that was made for windows. It works great. The only thing that is weird is the mouce, the scroll wheel is inverted and you cant change it without inverting scroll on the trackpad, but that's easily fixable with downloading mouce mod or smt. Also never had the issue with "downloads" folder in finder. It just always was there on the right side. Macs are REALLY fucking expencive tho, they're rediculus

You forgot to mention the reason why "everyone" hates macs, their horrid repairabilty. cant switch out the ram; the ram controller will say "NOPE! PAY $200 TO COOK FOR MOR RAM!" whenever you solder on some. the ssd is also soldered; besides on the m4 mac mini, and mac studio and mac pro.

1: buying a mac from amazon will cost you significantly more than from their website. 2: The downloads folder does show up on the finder bar, you just have to add it on your favourites (takes 3 seconds) 3: Commands are almost identical to windows, except you use cmd instead of ctrl 4: Other keyboards work completely fine, I have multiple and my mac doesnt have any issues with the. The only bad thing i can think about is that there is no command key, but the mac recognises that and it registers the windows key as the command key instead. 5: ram and storage arent the only important part of the computer, sure its much more expensive but the apple silicon architecture is amazing for almost all applications and most importantly of all, its optimized for so many apps. In terms of simulations and renderings, macs are beasts and can be compareds to rtx laptops.

I understand that you come from Windows an Mac looks like a super complex expensive shit but its more than that, its about your budgets, on what you like and is more comfortable to you, which was your first computer, social "status" and your actual ecosystem. You maybe find macOS like the biggest shit ever but is cuz you don't know how to use a Mac. A lot of people doesn't use Macs but that doesn't mean they hate it. I recommend you try macOS on a deeper way and trying to use it as your main OS and your intuition will change to the Mac user thinking and it will be way easier to use.

The older Macs aren't too bad anything pre 2020 can officially support windows as well. Mac mini 2012 has upgradable ram but shit CPUs. MacBook pro is the same. The mini 2018-2020 also has upgradable ram (2014 mini somehow randomly has soldered on ram??). Also mini 2014 can be a bargain with some lower end ones around £300, i7 with 32gb rams are probably as much as a new MacBook Pro entry level

I hate apple, because the file system of my ipad broke, because I added One Drive. To save data I use the one drive app 😒. Also their apps don't work on windows, but microsoft office work on ipad.

The mac pro I'm using to write this was built in 2008 and runs 8 processors and 16GB main mem, point being that "it just works". Still! I can't run any of Apple's new spiffy new operating systems on it, but I don't care. It's aging in terms of the open-source software I can yet build - I can't use Homebrew, but most stuff on Macports does work; if I want OSS for the future, I'll have to go with new hardware and Linux. I haven't spent thousands and thousands of (your local currency) keeping up with new system software showing bells and whistles I don't need. God help me if I start doing stuff where I need 64 GB RAM to run 16 apps at once. That's got ADD and infotech grunt written all over it. I guess what I'm most missing out on (in your view) is that I can't run a modern version of Linux. Most people with channels like yours are not building their own startups; they're too busy vlogging.

People understand that u dont need to sell ur kideny to buy a product. Im on 2016 thinkpsd with arch linux just upgrade the ram and storage. Ik there are babies that cant open their stuff but in the end yall are getting ripped off as long as I get the service I want from my device and no need to worry abt data stealing u should do that. Or maybe get a 500$ laptop install linux rice it to look like mac. And has functionality of windows. No need to be rpped of just for a logo.

I REALLY hope this is rage bait. 1. You overpaid way too much because you were on Amazon. 2. You DON'T NEED TO USE AN APPLE KEYBOARD. 3. The Magic Mouse has a right click, a right click on MacOS is command+click. There is a scroll wheel because you use it like a trackpad. It's made to replicate the trackpad experience on a macbook. You don't need to buy it, so stop complaining about it. It's not for everyone. 4. It is NOT brand chasing, I ordered an M4 mac mini because it was a great deal. I was a Windows user my whole life. If another good deal for a mac happens when I need another computer, I'll buy a mac again. If not, I'll build a PC. I don't buy apple products because of the brand, I buy them because they can be good (sometimes). And guess what? The new mac mini is almost the same price as the laptop you mentioned (if you can get it from apple directly) and massively better performance. I'm upgrading from almost the same exact laptop. 5. You see something expensive from apple and say "that's overpriced" without thinking. You don't consider how good the product actually is and if the price is appropriate. People hate on apple because it's normalized. Expensive doesn't mean overpriced, and sometimes it's not even expensive.

As a certified Apple hater, I would like to give many likes. =) Though my hate doesn't come from different functionality - if you used it for a while, you get used to everything, even though one-button mice are f***ing stupid. My hate comes from their mentality in the background. Milking their users and even getting praised for it, charging ridiculous sums, making everything as closed source as possible, and their potentially biggest crime: Being heavily against right to repair, together with sometimes building machines with serious design flaws and not taking any responsibility for it, letting users pay for THEIR mistake - which is already bad enough, that such a behaviour is legal. I absolutely despise Apple and will never buy anything from them. I also hate Microsoft for them making Windows worse and worse, which has driven me to start using Linux soon. For everything that doesn't run on Linux, I will keep my Windows 10 machines in use without any networks in the future, because Windows is turning more into spyware with every number growing. 11 is already a disgrace, who knows how 12 will be.
