Wow! Yeah this video and the ensuing comments really hit the nail on the head as far as why CJ is so beloved among not only fans of the GTA series, but fans of gaming altogether. I believe his charisma, backstory, along with the customization options are definitely what make him so liked and relatable to players. On another note, I just realized that as much as I did in the way of customizing CJ's appearance, I never even considered making him bald like this video showed in several instances. 😅 That just goes to show the different options and creative freedom players truly have. Maybe the only time I've cared about protagonist in the series was Niko Bellic. But the difference between he and CJ is that it was because of his past, and not about happenings during the game, like mentioned on video. And yes, Woozie is definitively one of the (if not THE) best secondary character.

well, now that you mention it, I have the definitive edition and, now that most of the patches are fixed or barely noticeable, it's much better now than I hear it was in 2021 as I waited until 2023 to get my copy and the gps and the weapon wheel really come in handy and I got 100% and all the achievements on all 3 games and Bully too and 100% on GTA 4, GTA 4: TLaD, and GTA 4: TBoGTP but not so much GTA 5 but I came close.

I know I might get some shit but I believe the reason why CJ is the most Loved most memorable and favored character is it simply boils down to nostalgia Reasons are as follows The 3d universe started in the Early 2000s most of us were kids back then at the time there was 3 games each game was better than the last when it was just GTA 3 and vc we appreciated Claude and Tommy but thoes games were limited in what you can do then boom san Andreas came around san Andreas to this day has the best role playing elements customization options for your character and so on at the time I was in primary school just a year or two prior everyone was dick riding tommy talking bout being Scarface and shit then boom san Andreas drops and the rest is history more cheats more unlockables more fun activities from the Getto plus being fresh out the 90s we now had a game that touched on hip-hop rap and gangster culture followed by saints row we were able to experience the 90s very accurately in San Andreas seeing most of us as kids in the 2000s were literally 90s babies just like someone born or grew up in the 80s would appreciate vice city more because of the vibes the music and pop culture reference. If we are being honest most of us as kids didn't play san Andreas for it's story writing but More for it's content environment settings vibes role playing and subjectively depending who you ask the characters we as kids back then didn't notice see it understand certain thing's weather it be from a narrative stand point continuity Cannon or lore we just cared as kids mostly for content and San Andreas had just that content. If we really observe the San Andreas storyline as an adult certain things don't make sense or add up with the grand scheme of things example CJ returns home to the grove because his ma's dead and he wanted answers it felt as if this was going to be a revenge mission to get retribution for for our mother mostly circulating in and around the ghetto of los Santos but then CJ just gets dragged through the whole state of San Andreas doing shit for crash for the government for the triads the mafia drug pushers going to pilot school everything the game pushed CJ original motive for returning to San Andreas aside and in place of that we got go there go do this go that now hop on one leg with a glass of water on your head with a thumb finger jammed up your ass while doing the wah watusi Another prime example of San Andreas storyline being all over the place is CJ saying he back he for da grove g.s.f for life when sweet finally comes out of jail to check on the hood CJ don't wanna go back even tho he promised sweet he's back CJ isn't much of an honorable man at least sweet is he's not good but he got his principles CJ is a turncoat for the right price and yes I'm aware smoke and Ryder was to but sweet wasn't he took care of his sister his Mama and so on CJ ran the only reason we like CJ is because he's cool and he's a caricature of the 90s gang banger scen that we just came out of If we are being honest as an adult the only decent honorable 3d GTA protag we got was Victor Vance he was a family man delt a bad hand came from real poverty had a dysfunctional family that tormented him except for his Aunt and Pete whereas CJ always ran away from responsibility as an adult whereas Victor was dealing with shit as a kid looking out for his siblings so ideally who really is supposed to be the most liked 3d protag out of any ? Claude=ruthless Tommy=ambitious CJ=cool but careless Toni=principle Victor=righteous and caring Victor was the only 3d protag that had legitimate employment the others were career criminals Think about it from this perspective a lot of kids today first GTA was GTA 5 and a lot of kids say Trevor is a grate character but never played as Niko in GTA 4 but if you told them Niko is a better character they'd defend Trevor to their dying breath because Trevor is a product of their generation same as CJ. But with a hint of nostalgia from a pop culture stand point CJ was a representative of.

Spot on! Nostalgia always plays a huge part, and SA was the game that most of us played as kids because it was simply the best out there (at least when it comes to GTA) content-wise as you said. The only thing that I would disagree with is that CJ was a turncoat for the right price just because he didn't want to help Sweet rebuild the Families. I think otherwise. CJ, similarly to Franklin from GTA V, knew that gangbanging isn't going to bring success to their lives, or if it is, the chances are scarce and they'll most likely get killed in the process. CJ wanted to get out of the hood and for a good reason. Cuh what did the hood give CJ? His little brother died, then his mother, then two of his sandbox homies betrayed him and his other brother gone to prison and he and his sister got exiled out of the city. He just knew that the gang is negative and he should look for success somewhere else, which is exactly what he's done during the time Sweet was locked up. Then he manages to get his brother out and wants to get him into everyting he built, and Sweet disagrees. Sweet was very unambitious and had this stupid mentality that the majority of people from such environments got which is that if you were born in the hood, you gotta die in the hood. I even heard it recently from an interview with the rapper Polo G, who also was raised in a similar environment. He said that the cheat code to get out of the hood is to be able to think differently than your environment. So everyone there tells you that gangbanging is all you got and there are no other opportunities. And one day, in the days of racism, I think it was like that, that's why these gangs were formed in the first place, but the world's changed and CJ noticed that while Sweet hasn't.

For me CJ is my fifth favorite protagonist. First one is Niko.(I like how broken he is) Second one is Victor.(he is the closest thing we have had to a civilian. CJ is intensely likeable by the fanbase because (in my opinion) he was the first protagonist to be motivated by his family and had a large amount of personal growth. Tommy and Claude were just bad people who care primarily for themselves. Additionally the situation he finds himself in is relatable because he lost his mother. I do have some sympathy for the aforementioned protagonists but their problems in the beginning was their fault for being criminals, but in CJ’s case it’s just a sad situation. I may not find Tommy and Claude to be very likable characters but for what it’s worth I think they were written authentically. Each main protagonist of the problem in the story I just find myself relating to characters such Niko, Vic, CJ, Franklin, Johnny and Luis a whole lot more. the rest are also great characters but their problems in beginning of their stories was due to their own decisions, especially Michael, Tommy and Claude. You could make the argument that Johnny was also a criminal but he had good intentions. I also actually have sympathy for Trevor because of his problems and how Michael’s supposed death affected him.

💯 The fact that CJ was the FIRST one in the series whose personal life was emphasised in the story is most definitely one of the reasons for why we like him. I even think that a similar pattern is present in terms of GTA Vice City, which many people adore so much, even though this game has a lot of things that other games do much better. I think it's so liked by players because it just has so many innovations over GTA 3, like helicopters, a talking protagonist, interiors, some things like the ability to rob shops or buy food at restaurants and more. Even though the majority of these things we'll find in the following titles, Vice City was the first one to introduce them, and despite them not being designed in the greatest way the players just remember that it was the first one. Hope I explained that any comprehensibly 😅
