I need a macro lens - I currently have a 18-55 and while I can manage some cool shots with it, there isn't quite enough there to really make the shots pop and show as much detail as I'd like. I hate insects but taking a super close up shot of a bee was my first "Woah" moment and I don't think I'll ever forget it.

@JoshJ15635 жыл бұрын
Avinash Murthy Well my recommendation is a 24-70 and a 70-200 that’s pretty much all you need and if you need a macro then bring a macro lens or a extension tube that’s pretty much all you need, unless you mysteriously don’t know your going to do wildlife photography you don’t need anymore and you can also get a telephoto converter if your that worried about needing everything

Hagazo I use the same one as Peter, the protactic 450aw, seriously well made and really light weight. Climbed a mountain during a rain storm with it and ally gear was bone dry the entire time. It even comes with a built in weather sheild that you can pull out.

I remember watching the first one of your videos while searching for tips for one of my photography projects at school and getting hooked. I think I saw all your videos within two days. I remember watching the video when you decided to quit your job and pursue KZbin and photography full time and getting so inspired. Last year has been full of ups and downs for me and I am currently unemployed. But your story has motivated me to not sit idle by, but to pursue bettering myself with the free time I have. I am starting a carpentry business and have done a couple of small pieces for friends. If you ever want a desk or coffee table let me know. I would love this camera to shoot videos and pictures of my work to post on scocial media. Finally put all those photography lessons from school to use. 😅

LOVE it... I got the chance to borrow the L macro from a friend and I fell in love with the way the colours looked and with the sharp and detailed results. It was the first time shooting an L lens and that was the point at which I decided to invest in quality Glas instead of buying more and more cheap lenses:D
@EsteeWhitePhotography4 жыл бұрын
Exactly the information I needed - confirmed by a reputable KZbinr :) I have used macro lenses but I don't buy them. They are out of my $$ range and most importantly don't give me the extreme magnification that I like working with. So I prefer using extension tubes, reverse rings & microscope objectives... Recently I had an argument - well more like a discussion, with another photographer who claimed that everything shot with a macro lens is - macro photography... I tried to explain to him more about the true macro ratio 1:1 and how a macro lens ( unlike ext. tubes, reverse rings and microscope objectives ) doesn't get out of focus just because you are slightly further away. So with macro lenses you can shoot macro but you can also shoot close-ups and regular photos, that don't have the required magnification ratio to be considered true macro. Really good video, thank you for sharing :)

Peter, I've got to say that you are one hell of an inspiration! Cheers to you from Texas! I've always had an eye for taking photos and I've developed so much over the years just observing and reading about it online. What really brought it out in me was being a skateboarder for the past 15 years now, always seeing those huge lenses and sweet shots in skate magazines really opened my eyes to the world of photography. Not too long ago I purchased a D3500, few weeks later I upgraded the kit lens for a Sigma 17-50 F2.8 and now I'm shooting on a used D600. It's odd, but when I find a passion in something, i just jump in head first. Mind you, this is my first comment on one of your videos but I've been watching your videos and learning for the passed year now. Thank you for the insight and knowledge you pass down to so many others like me. Good vibes sent to you and your family! Have a blessed one!

I have the EF 100mm f/2.8 IS USM as well. I've done a lot of product photography with it for my sisters cosmetic line and obviously flowers, and even some portraits. Though the 100mm focal length can make portraiture difficult on an APS-C camera, which is like using a 160mm lens on a full frame. I have to stand so far back from the subject so it's not always practical for portraits. It is a handy lens though

@SvenVee7 жыл бұрын
yeah for sure, and indeed the 17-50 is pretty neat so far as far as I can tell, only a bit more wobbly than the kit lens (which has pretty good vibration reduction built in, whereas the Sigma 17-50mm has optical stabilization in combo with a lot more weight so a bit more shakiness). And yeah bro, thanks! That sequence from the cooking from a couple vids back kinda proves all of his points haha + that he's just a great videographer of course :)

Probably a quite stupid question for you camera geeks out there, but what is the difference between a macro lens and a prime lens. I own a 50mm prime lens and I know its used for portraits. But my friend had a 50mm macro lens and i couldn't find a single difference. Someone wanna help me out and tell me?😄😃
@BCMSi7 жыл бұрын
Did anyone ever answer? They aren't mutually exclusive. Prime means you are fixed at 50mm, as opposed to a Zoom lens which might have a range of 24-105mm or whatever, which would allow you to zoom in or out as you please. There are advantages to both. Macro means you can focus on things which are very close to the camera and pick up a lot of detail, so if you wanted some really good flower/insect/other type photos this would be an advantage. Both yours and your friends are 50mm Prime, his is additionally macro. That is a very shallow run down.

Pete, there's a Tokina 100mm f2.8 macro that you NEED to have. Not sure if it comes in a Canon mount, but it's one of the best lenses for the money and it is DIRT cheap.

Yet another GREAT video! And yes, also guilty. I have the L series 100mm Macro and I absolutely LOVE it. Use it all the time for interviews so I don't have to shove the camera right up in people's faces.

Love your videos they're all so super cool. I got a 90mm Macro from Tamron and love it so much. No matter whether flowers insects or portrait it is one of my beloved lenses.

Congrats on the 1M! Wheeeew! Bet that feels amazing! I have a (affectionately) ghetto version of a camera.....since that's all I can afford at this point.....but I do use the Macro setting on my Canon SX160 IS (16X Optical Zoom). Ha! Yea, go ahead. Laugh. That's really ALL I know how to use on my camera too (the macro setting). I still enjoy learning about the fabulous gear you are fortunate to get to play with....and I like to live vicariously through your experiences Pete. I'm just beginning to learn Photoshop in school (started 2 wks ago), so I can't wait until your videos aren't WAAAY over my head. And 2 minutes....just never enough....so thanks for the tidbits of extra content you add. You da man, Pete. You-da-man.

If you check Headshot King Peter Hurley videos when he uses his Canon DSLR the Canon 100mm macro was his money maker! I use my Nikon 105mm 2.8vr for Portraits mostly & wedding ring shots! Sharp a hell. Great focal length.

I was lucky enough to be able to buy good camera, and now i have entered the Mine field of lenses , cost vs versatility and with these videos, its definitely making it interesting and easier to choose . Cheers Peter.

I absolutely love my macro lens! When I first got it I thought it was kinda stupid, but I've grown so used to it, and definitely wouldn't want to miss it! Peters seems to be even better so maybe I will need to step my game up and invest a little more soon! On a side note: that pizza making montage was the bomb! Had to watch it like four times in a row! Just so aesthetic
