Born and raised in Texas, and currently living in Utah. However, I’ve been to multiple states and Pennsylvania is definitely one of the main ones I’ve been to. I think personally it is significantly underrated. It’s got a mix of big cities and rural towns, cheaper than most states in the northeast, birthplace of the Declaration of Independence, the most cities ending with -burg, and it is in between when it comes to politics. In fact, if you do the research, the vast majority of presidents elected have had to win Pennsylvania in order to win the presidential election, so definitely Pennsylvania is an important or probably one of the few most important states nationwide, even California. This is by no means to say that it is a perfect state to live in. it sure has its disadvantages as well like every state.

I have lived in PA for 59 years and have lived in western, central and now eastern PA. I love our state. Everything he says is true and yes avoid the Philly airport. There are some depressing areas (former coal and steel towns that have not bounced back) so keep that in mind and the western side of the state is far cloudier from Nov through March than Eastern PA. Philly has 54 more sunny days than Pittsburgh. Generally, the state's population is growing mainly from around I 81 eastward except for some pockets like State College. There are a lot of New York and New jersey transplants moving into the eastern side especially in the Lehigh valley so the character of that area is changing. I would say probably the best areas to move to would be Lancaster and Chester counties in the southeast or the far northeast (well beyond the awful towns of Hazelton and Wilkes Barre) like he said around Honesdale, Milford... more in the Pocono region. The State College and Lewisburg areas in Central PA are nice too and thriving (they are college towns). A big benefit for retirees is retirement income is not taxed at the state level and we have no sales tax on most groceries and clothing.

PA is feast or famine where one town is very clean and the next town over is a drug emporium 💩hole. The Eastern side of the state is where the action is, meaning Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton AKA The Lehigh Valley. A little farther north in my neck of the woods is Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. The middle of the state has absolutely nothing worth writing home about and the Western side has Pittsburgh and dreary Erie. Rent is dirt cheap and I pay 850 for a two bedroom house in Tamaqua which includes water, sewage, garbage and electric in the rent. Can't beat it. Overall the people are very nice. The landscape is beautiful especially in Fall. The old house is 237 years old and in much better condition than the seventy year old home I came from. After living in NYC, San Diego, and Seattle, I made a visit back to my hometown of Pittsburgh. It had been 12 years since my last. I decided to move back, which I did the following year. Although the cost of living was a big factor, I believe that it was the people who brought me back. After all the years of NYC and the west coast, I lost sight of that. In previous visits, I found it refreshing, but that one in 1998 resonated with me, because I was ready. Thanks for the video.

As a native Pennsylvanian all my life, all that you said about it is pretty much on point. It's a pretty state to admire if you're a nature and/or a history lover (like myself.) I agree with point #1 as I've lived in this state for practically my whole life, and the people are a joy to be around (except in philly and near the NJ border oftentimes). I've lived in PA my whole life but moved around. I now live near Pittsburgh and the only gripe I have is that air travel has become less convenient over the years and driving to the coast will take take the better part of a day. Also, while the winters have gotten milder there's a noticeable lack of sunshine in the winter months and seasonal changes are marked by fits and starts where you will have summer-like and winter-like weather within days of each other.

My wife and I moved to Pennsylvania a year and a half ago after we retired to be able to live in a lesser populated area like Sacramento, California where we are from. Local taxes can bite you in the rear depending on where you live so do your research to find out the local school taxes besides the county taxes. We live in Allegheny just outside of Pittsburgh where the county taxes are higher than our neighboring counties but some of the school districts taxes have been in the news and in the courts for doing excessive hiking especially for new home purchasers. All things are relative depending on what you are looking for example walkable and bike riding areas are all over the place in my area with beautiful parks. Health care is easy to access if they take your insurance with a number of hospitals all around. The weather is much colder but does not get as hot as the Sacramento, CA valley area and it rains a lot in comparison but it's much greener with some humid days during the summer. No regrets about moving to Pennsylvania that is for sure but a surge of out of state investors are driving up the local real-estate market pissing off the locals since the minimum wage is at the federal levels keeps some of the other wages down but some technical companies do pay well depending of what field you are in. I hopes this helps and Briggs you need to see if you can access the stats on other taxes besides just property taxes.

Life long Pennsylvanian here. I just wanted to let you know that you’ve reinvigorated my love for my Commonwealth. Living here my whole life, things become “stale” but when you look elsewhere you realise it’s not so bad here, like at all. The endless forest and water has you feeling like an elf at times with how untouched and beautiful the woodland areas are. The Urban areas, Philadelphia included, are some of the most bustling, lively and energetic cities in America. And speaking on Philadelphia… Kensington is such a small portion of it and yes people fixate way too much on it. Northern liberties, the greater northeast, Rhawnhurst, Penns Landing, old city, center city, etc… are all amazing neighbourhoods not featured in the middle of a ghetto, like Kensington. COME TO PA AND JOIN THE 13 million ELVES that live here :)

I love living 45 minutes from multiple cities where I can get culture from concerts to monster trucks, yet I live in the mountains and along a river, plus I am 30 minutes from a great amusement park and have multiple farmers markets to get healthy affordable food. Small towns in PA are safe places where you can raise a family without any FOMO because you are still close to everything! People, YES, I LOVE my neighbors, a storm blew over a tree in my front yard, I was outside digging out the stump and my neighbor came over with his truck and a chain, he put it in 4 wheel drive and was hopping, smoking his tires, I asked him to stop because I thought he was going to damage his truck, he just smiled and said, if that happens, it isn't much of a truck! LOL 😋 I have lived in other states where the people are cold, rude or fake. PA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with most of what you said. PA is definitely a safe bet in a lot of ways. But beware that the central part of the state can leave you feeling pretty isolated and totally car dependent in both your daily life and/or if you travel much. Went to PSU and it's a project getting there even 50 years later. Cultural and social diversity is a "bit lacking" once you venture off campus and the weather is gray, windy and depressing more often than not. Some clearly like these aspects of life in central PA, but it's not for someone with more urban values or inclination.
