@@1685Violin I'm British and can confirm yes, most Brits hate American dubs. @taloscal

@@1685Violin I don't mind the concept of dubs personally, the only issue I tend to find is you hear the same VA's quite a lot in many similar roles or doing the same voice for almost every role they've done... makes you get a bit tired of hearing some of them, though certain VA's do tend to put in more of an effort and I can respect them for that. though on an unrelated note a lot of anime/dubbing companies are getting exposed for stupid stuff and contraversies recently (changing/censoring scripts and scenes for stupid reasons and certain VA's coming under fire) ... so i'm happy to stick with subs for the moment until the can of worms stops rotting.

They added the Chronicles to match up with the Japanese logo, I imagine. The Japanese logo has the word "XENOBLADE" with small katakana for "Xenoblade" under it. The original European logo has the same thing going on, except the katakana is replaced with the small word "Chronicles". The US release and subsequent rereleases outside of Japan everywhere have the "Chronicles" just as big and right next to the "Xenoblade".

This gets even more mind shattering when XC2 actually uses American accents, and one of the most iconic British voices in that game is actually from a demographic that the game usually gives American voices to. So rather than an alternate universe where the games were dubbed in the US, you're forced to consider the possibility that this iconic character _actually did_ speak American at some point in the in-universe history.

Denim Chicken I think I’d say the same about a lot of American accents in media. It’s not noticeable when you hear them daily, and over time I’ve gotten more used to them, but even as a native English speaker I found it jarring at first. Something that I think is worth making very clear is that the accents are real accents. They may be played up a bit, but accents that thick do exist, and aren’t even too rare. Niall and Morag have reasonable Scottish accents and Nia has a welsh accent which is quite thick but definitely still realistic. (And honestly as a Brit it’s so nice to have at least one game using accents local to me)

It felt like a breath of fresh air hearing an english dub that didn't have American accents. That said, I always forget that JRPGs are not considered very popular in the western region. Which is weird cause it feels like they are popular in the west. It also feels like both sides of the industry don't really understand each other if the eastern side thinks that western RPGs don't have heroes with flaws. It's because JRPGs fell out of favor in the West for about ten years from 2006-2016. Because of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Bioware's RPGs specifically Mass Effect & Dragon Age. Modern Warfare completely upended the Western gaming industry. It made multiplayer THE modus operandi of almost the entire gaming industry. Meanwhile, ME & DA rocketed Western RPGs to never before seen heights among console gamers; prior to this, the big WRPGs were all PC games. The Japanese gaming industry was completely caught off guard by this and they were also having trouble adapting to the new HD era. It took 10 years for Japan to find its footing, and for Western tastes as well to start changing after they were inundated with barrage after barrage of the same "gritty, realistic" style. It's why for so long, it seemed like every "gaming journalist" was calling JRPGs "dead" and why some Japanese developers were trying to imitate the Western aesthetic: some of these were moderate to big successes (such as Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma) and others were truly cringeworthy (like Ace Combat: Assault Horizon being a really big Call of Duty plot complete with EEEEVIIL RUSSIAN ultranationalists trying to take over the world). This video goes into more detail about how Japanese developers were stumbling around blindly for a decade: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZuZi3uhnJp1qqc

To add on to what AICW said while there was a down trend in the 2000s from 2006 up until 2016 jrpgs have also just not been nearly as popular in America in general starting even back with the original dragon warrior trilogy which were a common set of household's game in Japan with high prices whereas it was extremely rare to see in an average American household despite being in bargain bins across the country. So after finally receiving some love for the genre in the early 2000s when the trends switched everything kinda reset to how it was previously. That's why even today many JRPGs are considered as cult classics only liked by a select few despite the big 3 series 1. Dragon Quest (originally known as Dragon Warrior in America, recently been hitting a big growth curve in the west but still not well received until recently with the remakes of 8 and 7 as well as the release of 11 and the rereleases of the original trilogy garnering a lot of popularity) 2. Final Fantasy (seen as amazing ever since 7) 3. Persona And then there are all the singular cult classics (at least in the U.S.) such as Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. Despite all these successes there is still a certain air of under appreciation about jrpgs that is honestly disappointing to me.

Remember that this was the time where Japanese game developers were in downward spiral thanks to the success of the Xbox 360 in the West, the type of games on it (Mainly FPS games and how RPGs like Fallout/Bioshock/Mass Effect capitalized on that), being overall late to transition into the HD resolutions (and flocked to the DS/3DS and PSP/Vita). So Nintendo of America saying NO to XC1 back then was within reason knowing their market and sudden crash of the Wii

I love this kind of stories, where thanks to the effort of someone in a group, they finally convince the others to overcome their barriers and manage to achieve success. If it weren't for NoE, we wouldn't have a series now beloved by many fans widely available all over the world. It would also be quite strange, because we would probably have a situation similar to the one with the Fire Emblem series: the protagonist playable in the Smash bros. games, while none of the games in that series available for people to play worldwide.
