Why Everyone Wants Yearly Chapters In Fortnite

I think 2 year chapters or a year and a half are the best for Fortnite . They allow us to have more experience on the island and give us more seasons that we can appreciate and like. The bigger chapters are overall better than the small ones, so why not go back to 2 year long chapters?

Chapters that are a year and a 1/2 long means we have 6 seasons and probably a good amount of time to get used to the map, and Also enjoy it, but since that hasn't been tested, I'm not sure.

@@damann7778 fortnite already had a set schedule making chapters only 1 year ruined that epic ruined there whole story when they made chapters shorter by rushing everything chapter 4 wasn’t supposed to happen until years same thing with chapter 3 season 4 that’s why the story feels empty we had 4 years of build up to the seven just for them to all die to goop and never be seen again this is prevalent in Fortnite story after we switched to 1 year chapters look at the oath bound who where supposed to play a big role about geno they were here for a season and made some big crappy telescope to never be seen again, same thing with the peace syndicate and the syndicate war that was happening they also disappeared never to be seen again just for some random jungle to appear in chapter four season three which was unbelievable random and was just there for plot convenience so we could skip to the next season and end the chapter in a year the real reason we skipped to yearly chapters is so they can pump out more big content so they receive more revenue they’re so focused on making more maps we don’t have the ability to appreciate the time and story that we have on the maps we where on and it’s starting to get stale I mean we don’t even get map changes or live events every other season anymore just so we can get some crappy season with a new map and some game modes nobody plays instead of making another open map game mode they could just fix save the world but no epic just wants money also sorry for the rant

@@damann7778 also to answer your statement about how chapter two and chapter one didn’t have a clear endpoint but they did when we where in chapter 2 Donald mustard already new what he was going to do in chapter three which was ruined by epic when they switched to 1 year chapters and just killed off the seven that we had years of backstory to also it’s not that we had a story with no end point but it’s simply the fact we had one story we didn’t have the oathbound, the underground, the syndicate, etc we have all of these stories that are everywhere and messy literally the worst thing they could’ve done was shorten the chapters and it goes way deeper than story and actual game play I mean they are already working on chapter six season two you can’t tell me they put any thought into anything

tbh I agree with your take that Fortnite players are kind of spoiled. I remember playing Chapter 1 and something as small as the monster skeleton was mind-blowing and made the map feel so different, nowadays players would loot that in 60 seconds and run past without a second thought. The only problem with the current cycle is the summer seasons are always dead, though this year was a massive improvement over 2022-23.

i started in chapter 1 season 3 and say that the most fun i had was chapter 2 season 7 - chapter 4 season 1, when all the boys were playing. Now when i log in i see almost nobody online and realise those memories arent going to be made anymore, and if they are, not as strong as what they once were, which is why i switched to other games like bloons for example

You're right, i wouldn't want 2 years of bullet drop and attachments, or for example 2 years of Myths and Mortals pois, but the thing is, back in the day Epic didn't have chapter gimmicks or lasting map changes. If Primal was released now, for example as the first season of a new chapter, the changes it brings would stay for the whole year, but back in chapter 2 Epic would constantly revert both gameplay and map changes. Some people think that's a bad thing, but think about it this way: we used to get bad seasons that drove people away from the game with their changes, but would then be completely removed in a few months, and now we get entire bad chapters. Ultimately i think it's better for Epic to... well, in a sense be afraid to experiment? What i mean is, they should still experiment of course, but lose that confidence they have now in the idea that people will like said experiments, and be ready to revert them not just with new chapters, but with new seasons as well. If they do that, then there will be room for 2 year long chapters. If not, they'll forever be trapped in this 1 year loop with the illusion that that's what people want, when in reality the only reason people want chapters to end sooner is because they hate them

My problem with the yearly maps: (minus ch3) their maps are based around a theme instead of the maps like 1-3. They also don’t bring back old POI’s which sucks as well and was why i didn’t like yearly chapters because i hadn’t realized that my problem was the chapters being themed.

11:27 I never thought about it this way, that one question converted me from being a "yearly chapter hater" to a "supporter". I really like chapter five, heck, it might be my favorite chapter of all time. But it is time to move on. I'm ready. I know I will miss it, but with yearly chapters, each season feels so distinct and the map has an insane amount of personality built up over just four seasons. I'm incredibly excited for the future and I know I'll miss the past, but that's a part of what makes this game so special.

Oh now this is a topic I love to engage with, since my opinions vary quite a bit with it and to this day I keep dwindling back and forth with it. I am completely fine with year long chapters because Fortnite ALWAYS wants to keep your attention. And if there is a chapter that goes in the wrong direction, you can just come back in a year or you'll have less of a reason to go away from the game. Yearly chapters have made me quit the game less compared to CH2 and have been the reason why i've stuck around. Even with C5 being the worst chapter, I've stuck around and enjoyed absolute doom because I know the game is constantly changing. The community needs to be more grateful and I mean this with the most utter respect. There was something magical about longer chapters. But I think is that each of both chapters had a lot of issues and epic gave up on them "too quickly" (which is crazy to say, since these two chapters lasted from 2017 to 2021). Chapter 1 had become oversaturated by the end of Season X, where changes became not that meaningful or annoying (Starry, Moisty Palms) and it had no meaningful development until Season 4. Chapter 2 had a lot of very long seasons, content droughts and an awful handling of map changes along with poor map evolution. I quit 3 times during CH2 because S1, S5 and S8 were abysmal with the lack of content or bad gameplay. However, these chapters still felt more special and were a core part of the identity of the game, they were just managed poorly. I still believe if Epic plays their cards right, we can see a 2 year chapter that handles map evolution and primary gameplay that improves on the flaws of the first 2 chapters. But this is wishful thinking. Great video btw. I agree with your point at the end about patience.

Truly, CH4 was shock from skipping CH2 season 6-CH3, and I needed OG to remind me what I liked about the game. This season is alright, I feel like it could be really good if CH5 base wasn’t kinda weak.

i first played fortnite in 2018 around season 5 with some friends but only played a few games then quit because i wasnt that interested, a couple years later i got curious and started a new account and this is where it gets funny, chapter 2 season 6 got me interested in fortnite when i came back i think it was like the last month of the primal season and i really liked the map, lootpool, and building (i still pref builds even though im bad at it) my regret is not starting this game at the beginning of chapter 2 but at the same time i had no idea all that stuff was going on because i was playing other games, if i knew about the first marvel season or the spy season i would have played sooner

i think every chapter they should take a unique approach to it. they shouldn't all be 4 seasons or 8, sometimes they should mix it up. they could also incorporate the story pretty well with that too (like if chapter 3 was only 2 season if the io won, or if chapter 2 was only 7 seasons because the mothership crashed down on the map)

when ppl talk about wanting chapters to be over a year the reason is always for personal enjoyment and they never take into consideration what is easier for epic to manage. Making chapters 1 year long makes it easier for epic to plan things and makes it easier for you to expect when certain things may happen, its an easy way of making sure that you can spread out content and events evenly throughout the chapter on a yearly schedule.

I think a reason why the game is failing is bc epic thinks we need a new game. They are so hyperfixed on trying to add all these new things and features, when all we truly need is a good map and loot pool. They keep trying to make the game realistic and adding all these new things, that is why the game is dying. Chapter 1 and 2 are honored because they had minimal added features. Chapter 4 is one of the best because it stuck to bright and cartoony graphics and not so much added features. They need to go back to their roots and convert to the old ways.

Man, I miss Chapter 4 so much. It’s gameplay was imo the best the game’s ever had with the augments and the loot pool, the visuals were amazing, map changes were great, collabs were well done, and it set up some interesting story threads (that I guess will just never be followed up on or concluded now). I genuinely believe Chapter 5 Season 1 is the first truly bad Season Fortnite ever had, and that really hurt my enjoyment of the game and this Chapter, but it’s been nice to see each Season improving on the last since then. I’m feeling pretty optimistic about the game’s future at this point.

I agree with this somewhat. Epic obviously rushes more things and because of that we get seasons with extremely poor content (Myths And Mortals). They are forced to do more things in a year and the quality of the content takes a hit thanks to the quantity quota that has to be fulfilled. However I think they would've still released these massive features like bullet drop or mods in longer chapters though, they'd just be more spaced out.

Something you didn't mention is the lack of small map changes that the old maps had. In these current chapters, you get the map changes at the beginning of the season, and the map just stays the same throughout the whole season. Acting like they need to rely on a big change every year to keep people coming back is just wrong. The fun part of old chapters is that the map changes throughout a season, giving the illusion that the map and game is always changing, which is something the game is currently lacking

If Epic wants to make big changes and aren't sure about how it'll be received, they could just make the changes be gradual or something, like when they want or need to reduce the budget on winterfest (an example that could be possible for many possible reasons that could exist). If they just give a low effort one instantly then people are going to be mad. So instead they could reuse some assets and stuff from last year or the last time. Reuse past assets and resources. Reuse and recycle, while also keeping it fresh and new. From copying and pasting code with a few tweaks, to some second thing I forgot, there's plenty of ways to reduce the budget for things to spend it on others.

As you said, year long chapters could be awesome if executed perfectly and I hope that will be the case with Chapter 6. I think the reason Chapter 4 & 5 weren't received the best is due to both of them having pretty rough starts. Take Chapter 4 for example - Fracture left a bitter taste for many Fortnite players & made the new Chapter launch feel underwhelming. Another thing to note is that Chapter 4 was the first Chapter to not feature any old returning POIs, another factor that contributed to the rough start as it didn't have that sense of familiarity as C2 & C3 had on launch (both having up to 3 returning fan favorites). Same case with Chapter 5 - no returning POIs and a massive change in map artstyle AND gameplay (bullet drop, weapon mods, medallions, new movement). Those changes couldn't have been timed worse, being right after Fortnite OG which was just a complete of 180 of what C5 is. And let's not forget the awful UI changes that left many players unsatisfied with the game and which kinda ruined the excitement for a lot of people. Then look at Chapter 3, another year long chapter. Now, you could say that we didn't know that it was gonna be only a year long, but you can't deny that it had one of the BEST chapter launches ever. It was a direct follow up to C2 and it picked up right where The End event left off and it even had a Chapter launch cutscene to make the transition feel connected. The map felt familiar and very reminiscent of the Chapter 1 map, yet very fresh & new at the same time. The issue w C3 was that it had a abrupt ending which kinda ruined it and ended the potential it had (even though C3 is still my favorite Chapter) and contributed to the launch of C4 feeling rushed and underwhelming. It's all about execution at the end of the day. If they can get a chapter launch to feel as good as C3 & a chapter ending to feel as natural as Chapter 4, that would automatically make it feel that much better. In my opinion, i believe every chapter should have random amount of seasons dependingon how good it is or how the story progresses. Back in chapter 2, i thought we would play for 10 seasons like bqck in chapter 1, but we played for 8. Then in chapter 3 we stayed for 4. So i believed that each chapter would have different seasons depending on how the story is during the chapter. I was proven wrong though when chapter 4 came around, but that's what i believed they were going for

I agree 100% with your take. It makes sense from a QOL standpoint. Yearly chapters means newer map more frequently with the ability to make the map more conceptually focused with the seasons. It also leaves the door open to more frequent core gameplay and primary gameplay changes to flow with each chapter. Example: chapter 3 was the chapter of sprint, mantle and no build Chapter 4 was the chapter of augments and kinetic weapons Chapter 5 is the chapter of attachments and medallions

The problem with the yearly chapters it become super repetitive. Season 1 is always the Xmas winter season, season 2 is some good map changes, adding to the lore, addition of some unique gameplay machanique, season 3 is a mess with Both bad map changes and awful gunplay and lootpool. And season 4 is a throwaway of a previous popular season. I think 6 seasons (not including a mini season like og).

Nooo yearly chapters are too short i dont think im ready to give up the chapter 5 map at the end of this season, things havent gotten crazy enough. And man 2 years was a long time with chapter 1 and 2 but i think a year and a half would be truly perfection. 6 seasons per map instead of 4 or 10 and itll give enough time to give a true send off to a map each time.

One way to avoid needing a new map due to map changes is, NOT TO HAVE A NEW BIOME OR MASSIVE MAP CHANGE EVERY SEASON. Chapter 1 and 2 executed that PERFECTLY.

I've played continuously since chapter 1 season 4. i think the yearly chapters are great. No matter how much i love or hate a season, I'm always excited for the next. what matters the most to me personally is the fortnite style. now I'm not saying i want chapter 1 graphics and assets back, i understand that they're outdated. but the vibrant, wacky artstyle still needs to stick around. whenever i think about this, i look back to chapter 3. I really enjoyed that chapter. the map on launch was amazing. the assets used in chapter 3 were still cartoony, but were more updated. I wasn't a fan of chapter 4 but the graphics were so good. and chapter 5 just felt very dull all over the island. i did enjoy the seasons this chapter though. i just wanna see the chapter 3 artstyle with chapter 4 lighting or something along those lines. and personally I'm a sucker for the fortnite story and was very much disappointed when it started falling apart. i really do hope to see Charlie bring that part of fortnite back. anyway that's all i gotta say. i enjoy watching this videos and hearing other people's opinions on the game.

I wish I could've played primal to see if it was truly bad. I didn't have fortnite at the time so I player it at my friends house. When primal released we only played for a week and I never was able to play it again. I may have been able to enjoy it.

A lot of people over exaggerate some of the issues that it had, and some of them were even fixed which some people, outright, seemed to ignore. I remember it also having pretty frequent content updates, special events, and even an LTM that we had never seen before, and still haven’t seen return.

New chapters/maps used to feel special. It felt almost exciting to go somewhere completely unfamiliar. Now it doesn't. And i think it's because I can't connect to a map the same way as chapter 1 or 2. It's because we spend too little time on the maps now. I feel like a happy medium would be having chapters last 6 seasons in a sort of "three act structure." First two seasons start out the chapter with more simple yet fun gameplay. The middle two would see a drastic change to the map such as a new biome or major POI changes. And the final two build to a grand finale for the chapter and put a bow on it and move on to the next map. And maybe at the end of each "act" they can put a major live event or something of the sort to get people interested in the following act. This would also allow people to get more used to how a chapter works and used to the locations, the ways to traverse the map, how to make use of the terrain on the map. The best spots to land, to rotate to, etc. but 6 seasons also would allow maybe for a chapter to start during the summer. If 4 seasons last a year then 6 seasons can last a year and a half allowing a big summer release to happen one year, then a big winter release happens another year. Ive yapped for far too long on this. Tl;dr I feel like 6 season chapters would be a happy medium between year long chapters and the two year long chapters of old.

On the flip side, this season is shorter then the previous 2 seasons of this chapter. By about a week. Less time to enjoy the last pass quest reward skin. Got the secret skin a whole month early and we got the doom island 🏝 poi map change a month early too. All so we could get fortnitmares an its map poi an landmark changes along side some fun stuff to do in October. Which is great, but at what cost? In a marvel season, the last skin were getting to enjoy in the season, ( cause i highly doubt their gonna bring another new shop skin in the last week an half of the season) is a marvel mash up skin. That skin being cap jonesy pen an ink style. Knowing that, the question is: Would this season be better received in the end of it, if doom was the last skin we got to enjoy? Or alot closer to the last skin in the pass anyway? Would it have been better to have the doom island poi towards the end of the season as well? Idk 🤷‍♂️. Seeing as it's a Marvel season, an knowing why everything got pushed out the way it did an the reasons why. . . . Ya id rather doom an his island at the end then not having him ( a actual marvel skin tied to a marvel season) in the end, an his map change poi. Doom island. Stuff got pushed 🫸 out to early for the sake of fortnitemares..is one way to look at it. If fortnitemares doesnt deliver on a level that a new skin like doom his map change poi an all his accessories an quests bring to the game. . . Then ya epic pushed it to early. Will see how this gos. Either epic will hit a homerun or. .... The home loses.

I do agree that shorter can be good, but I personally think that longer is better. Some may say it gets too samey and dull after a while and, while it can be true, isn't always. Longer chapters feel consistent, and I remember much more about just because I could spend more time to learn and appreciate them. I remember less about last season than about late chapter 1 seasons. I'll be honest though; I don't think it's the length of a chapter, or even season for that matter, that matters. Rather I believe it's the quality of those times that people correlate to length. Chapter 3, the time Epic started doing shorter chapters, was, while not the beginning necessarily, was a huge realization for me that the game didn't feel the same and not in a good way. I have such fond memories of both chapter 1 and chapter 2 (at least the first half), but both 5 and 3 I remember nothing except some of their issues. Even chapter 4, while better than both 3 and 5 combined, still pales in comparison to the "OG" era. This connection, along with other questionable changes, solidified itself as a mistake whether it was truly bad or not. Even so, that connection makes it feel like Epic traded quality for quantity. Instead of making good, albeit long chapters, they make shorter ones where they can do whatever because "it doesn't last that long anyway." I don't know if it's true, but it makes modern chapters feel like tests rather than planned additions. In the end, long or short, I just want a good, fun chapter that I feel good playing and, although people may (and will) disagree, Epic hasn't been able to provide that as of late. This chapter especially has had me question so many decisions they've made and wonder if they even play their own game. I wouldn't say it necessarily feels rushed like some may argue, but there definitely is a feeling that they stopped trying to take time in making things feel good and fair.

2 years is better it gives us more time with the map and can build further on the storyline with more seasons, 2 years gives epic more time for chapters and gives epic the ability to also listen to the community in that 2 year span. And add that into the works as there making the new chapter . More seasons would mean epic could add more later on instead of early, like biomes we don’t need a lot of biomes adding to many would make the map less and less appealing being jam packed full of a lot of colors and would the map look ugly if we started with 5 biomes and added 8 for those 2 years . I don’t think Fortnite would do that tho 😂
