Hey buddy, Typed 320 pilot here. Great video on a topic not often discussed in the simulator world but is absolutely crucial! Allow me to help flesh out a couple things: 1) We call this “sequencing the box” to make sure, as you said, the plane knows where we want it to go. The upper right corner of the ND we call “checkride corner” because during our check rides (and always, really) you need to ensure the proper information is displayed. On type rides we do a lot of approaches and it’s easy to screw up the sequence, hence the name. 2) A third option you missed was “clearing from the top” So additionally you can clear points from the flight plan until your intended point is in your check corner. This sequences the box also, you will not see an extended centerline, but see my next point. To do this, you press CLR > L1 until you’re properly sequenced 3) The flight plan will sequence to the next waypoint if you are within 5 NM of the current to waypoint. So if you clear from above and you’re within 5 NM of the fix, it will sequence properly. This is important to know because it could be faster to clear from the top instead of typing in the Direct To page 4) You mentioned it, but just to reiterate, all this is doing is sequencing the flight plan so in the event of a go around, the navigation is set up right. With an approach mode engaged, that takes precedence over the navigation. You can also use the extended centerline to “track” a loc inbound if you’re outside of its service volume or if the signal is weak and causes the nose to “hunt” for the signal. Sometimes that’s a problem in real life.

Great response. I think using the DIR feature instead of CLR LSK1 etc is an easier option for sim pilots (as opposed to irl). The reason being that if you have 7/8 waypoints to clear, sadly in the sim, unless you're lucky enough to have expensive hardware, this takes quite a bit of time to do, and you don't have peripheral vision on other things (PFD/ND etc). It's simply a quicker way to achieve the sequenced flight plan when acting as a lone pilot, dealing with the aircraft, monitoring, talking to ATC etc. Though completely understand that irl, using CLR would be best and you also have a nice PM to assist you 😁👍.

One of the best tutorial for managing the FMGS in final vectors on A320 and never sawn before for MSFS. Congrats !

PERFICK Gav, spot on to what i need to practice. I can now feel confident when ATC vector me off the STAR and to find the LOC intercept point. Now i am going to search your previous Vids for the 'Go-Around setup & procedure'. Thank you Sir.

Thank You Gavin that has helped me out a lot as I tend to do exactly what you said and on a go around head off in the opposite direction.

Neat little trick, thanks :) I assume you could also just delete the upcoming waypoints individually?

Do a missed approach at Innsbruck at minimums on 26 where you flew past RTT and didn’t sequence the flight plan correctly…….. 🛫🗻💥 🤕

Cool never used this option before. In the Manchester case I would have I used abeam option to leave that waypoint in case of some constraints might be even able to stay in nav mode.
@Easyjetsimpilot Жыл бұрын
Once ATC pulls you off the STAR, the constraints are no longer valid.

Can you add distance rings to the landing runway and at which point should you activate the approach phase if you are vectored off before the decell point?
@n35ql Жыл бұрын
Yes. On fix page at ~ 4:32 on video enter the distance in the radius box, but not on DIR page. You need to create a fix for that. However keep in mind that based on operators when to initiate approach phase and decel may vary. Some use the direct distance from runways threshold, others take in account the segments of route. Example for the latter, one might be close or inside the 15nm radius (which is the general avrg distance for activating approach phase), but the route one flys might be a little zigzaged so the total distance is let's say 20nm. In that case one would initiate approach phase 15nm counted based in segments length but as I wrote practices vary from operator to operator.

Obviously you are right to pull 'heading' again after creating the extended centerline but (!) what you said in the video (..." because you dont want to go directly to that waypiont ...") isn't quiet correct or a bit misleading - the ac will not turn towards the runway waypoint (which you used to create -and clean-up your nav track) but as you can see in your video this will create an intercept point of your current heading and the extended centerline ! So you do not want to forget to switch back to heading, correct, but you do not have to rush it either, because nothing "weird or crazy" will happen
@Easyjetsimpilot Жыл бұрын
Only if the chosen waypoint doesn't have a NAV intercept route. Just like any other time you choose to go DIR to a waypoint, if the aircraft can intercept a path to it, it will, therefore it's good practice not to hang around in this mode and put it back into HDG.
@VmcgHD Жыл бұрын
It is SOP (in many outfits) to pull HDG immediately. The reason is simply so you don’t get distracted, forget and allow the aircraft to turn at the INTERCEPT point without ATC clearance to turn. This will make you quite unpopular and give you some paperwork to file. Especially if you start turning towards someone else and compromise separation. Yes, nothing exciting happens if you don’t pull HDG immediately, but you don’t want to forget so it’s encouraged to do it immediately. 👍
