Cus D'amato was the best boxing coach of all time and was like a godfather to Mike. He also trained Jose Torres and Floyd Patterson. Cus died in '85. When the champ lost Cus he was tossed to the wolves and Don King stepped in and took full advantage of his naivety for the business side of boxing. Respect to Mike for coming out on top in the end once again. That's another reason why he will always be the CHAMP in my book.

I had the unique and wonderful opportunity to study boxing with Dr. Floyd Patterson. Doctor ?! Yes. He was a professor for teaching boxing at the state college. He often spoke about Cus like a father. Dr. Patterson was the prototype for Tyson 25-30 pounds lighter. His classes were exactly what Joe Rogan talks about -technique - power - speed - movement - combinations. Athletic science.

Fully Focused and a disciplined Iron Mike Tyson would have been a formidable beast. Had the legendary Cus D-amator been around to finalise Mike's training and kept him in check, the world of Boxing would have been in a different place. You see, the legendary Cus D-amator knew that there were many levels and also that styles makes fights. Mikes training was far from finished and he found it difficult to adapt later on in year's especially after partying hard, sex, drugs and alcohol (in took it's toll). Mike abused his God given talent and burnt his candle on both ends. But i am so glad that he his still here with us and most of all Happy.

I don’t think you get me, so try to imagine what *i* CAN’T see; ali. So quick he turned the light off In his bedroom, hit the switch; was in the bed before the room got dark. He could run through a hurricane without getting wet! He could drown a drink ‘a little water and kill a dead tree. How could even iron Mike think even he could hit….Muhammad Ali. Tyson is strong, and hell, he’s explosive and quick. All that don’t mean nothing; if you can’t find nothing to hit . Thank you ladies and gentlemen. Any real fan knows exactly what I’m talking about. They keep saying that kid is all juiced on illegal steroids and he could take Tyson. I think all the roids in the world are just going to keep him upright for a few more seconds after Tyson knocks him out. The kid might maybe get in a couple decent hits but that’s about it the only way it lasts is if kid runs away stays out of range and that’s not a fight if he gets close enough to hit Tyson then Tyson is close enough to nail him and once he hits this kid a good one that kid won’t know which way is up roids or not

i think the major difference that made him a killer was: Most HW swing with arms and sholders. Tyson pulls it in tighter and swings almost completely with his sholders and body. It meant he fought tighter than most are comfortable with, for more than short durations. Meanwhile that was his bread&butter. And he was damn good and strong in that position snapping off punches like a machine.

one of the many boxing coaches i had as a youth told i the difference between a champion and a good journeyman boxer is one or all of three "god given" talents. back in the nineties here in britain we had two greats in the middleweight division, Eubanks and Benn. one had three out of three and the other had two, that was all that seperated them. Benn showed that heart alone was occasionally enough to make the difference. for each one talent there is it's opposite. the talents are... natural puncher, those who punch well passed their weight. iron jaw. and dancer. the opposited are... paper puncher. glass jaw. and brawler. Benn was a brawler whilst Eubanks was a dancer, hence he had natural rythm in his ringcraft and became known as a technician in boxing. back in the day Tyson had all three, plus the heart to win. that is what made him such a ferocious prospect in the ring.

Mike Tyson never fought anybody his size. He always had opponents that were at least 3 to 5 inches taller with a reach advantage to match. He would get in close under their punches and hit their body to create a opening then go for the knockout. When he hit them they didn't just fall down. They nearly flew across the ring in some fights.

Tyson never liked the comparison to Frazier. He felt Frazier just threw hooks for the sake of throwing and Cus D' Amato's style for (Torres, Patterson, and) Tyson was to be defensive while being a devastating offensive puncher. Hence, the motivation to make a statement against Frazier Jr. He wanted to show the contrast between the two styles. Tyson's Style: "What he hits... He destroys!" - Drago's Manager

I look at his legs. When he fights he uses a wide boxer’s stance as you would expect. It leaves the front leg vulnerable to takedowns and leg kicks. I wouldn’t want to take the time to kick his leg to death but against a big kick boxer he might have trouble. Against a grappler Tyson gets made a girl most of the time.

sportsmen can't be "scared" of an opponent, they might believe, in losing or winning and that's all!

All humans can be scared. Watch Bruno walk to the ring in the Tyson rematch. He was praying and crossing himself all the way to the ring as if he was walking to the gallows. These men knew the unstoppable carnage that was coming their way.

@@barbelljoe what you mean by unstoppable carnage, boxing is sport with its winners and losers of the particular match and in professional sportage, there is no such thing, like fear of an opponent!, there’s just “the guess of possible outcome”!
@barbelljoe
@barbelljoe Ай бұрын
@ikajakonia8009 if you've been training to fight Mike then you will be studying his fight taped every day. You will be well aware of the knockouts and carnage that came before you. Walking toward that ring to face Mike, with no turning back, is absolutely gonna scare the hell our of opponents. It isn't tennis. Broken noses, ribs and concussions will come your way if you're outmatched.

@@RickKing-uc5jn Well, no one can win all the time. Douglas, Lewis, Holyfield also had their losses as well. The only one that remained undefeated was Mayweather, but that's probably because he choose to avoid the tougher fights.
