Physics say if a star is about to go supernova, and ye wanna engineer a fix to prevent that supernova, best way is to *_reduce_* the mass of the star so there's less mass pressing down on the star's core. Preferably you wanna extract the heavier metals (elements that are heavier than helium) and leave behind the hydrogen that is still in the upper layers of the star. This hydrogen is needed for the sustained operation of the star. This process is called star lifting. Build a Dyson Swarm of solar powered electromagnetic (EM) generators that collectively creates and manipulates an EM field that lifts the ionized elements. Then Extractor Drones will separate the heavier elements and leave most of the hydrogen behind. Along side the EM Generator drones and the Extractor drones, there will be the automatic replicator drones that builds all three drones types as needed. With the automated replicators constantly building itself and the other drone types, the constellation will grow larger at an exponential rate. As the amount of collected material increases, the replicators can make more and more of the three drones. The constellation will get VERY big very fast within the decade of operation. Maybe the star's mass can be sufficiently reduced in time within the decade, maybe not. I do not know, but suffice to say if the process is started early enough the extraction process will eventually get big enough to make a noticable dent in the start size. Don't wait till the last minute! Once the constellation reaches a sufficiently large size, the replicator drones can switch from exponential growth and turn to maintenance mode and just maintain the existing constellation. The excess mass lifted from the star can then be shipped elsewhere for other manufacturing needs. Just keep in mind that in the initial stages the total mass and thus the gravity at the center of the star system will stay relatively constant, thus the surrounding planets shouldn't be disturbed much. BUT once one starts taking star mass elsewhere that may have long term effect on the surrounding planets. Besides as the star gets lighter it's light and heat output will decrease too, so the planets will need to be proportionally brought in closer to the star and orbits faster in order to maintain the same level of stellar energy reaching each of the planets that needs it. Probably the most efficient way is to use the extracted mass themselves to slow down the planet(s) by mass driving them away from the star out to the planet on such course so it arrives from "behind" and the planet captures the packages by transferring some of the planet's momentum to the packages. The amount of momentum exchanged will be tiny but it will accumulate over time. Once the planetary speed and orbit has been corrected, then the packet can be alternated between adding and subtracting momentum to maintain the planet's orbit.
