I remember having extra paper fast passes that I wasn't going to use at the end of my park day and trying to hand them to people just out of the kindness of my heart. I'd be like *walks up to stranger* hey! Do you want a fast pass for space mountain? and they would look at me like I was crazy or what's the catch? LOL. Did anyone else do that? Give your unused fast passes away to people just to be nice?

100%, loved doing that. I remember my wife and I giving a couple our Soarin fastpasses as we were leaving, that was back when it was always 90+ minutes. They were so happy.

I only had extras a few times. I was only able to successfully give them away once. Yeah they were skeptical most of the time.

I was the "ticket runner" for my family and that is thing I miss most. Being able get your fastpass in park only at the ticket kiosk near the entrance using a paper map, folded inside out to try an match landmarks. It was a real adventure. Non-expiring 10 day pass held me for years.

Our best trip ever to Disney World was during the time that they were testing FastPass+. So, we were able to book rides ahead of time electronically, but still able to go to the kiosks to get the paper passes as well. As the designated person that was the "fast walker pass getter", I made sure that we rode more rides that trip than ever before or since. It was awesome!!

Fastpass+ at Disneyland was awesome. It was Fastpass but on your phone and not running to kiosks. Way worth the $10.

I have no problem with paying to skip the line. It just brought Disney in line with other theme park operators like Universal, SeaWorld, Six Flags, Cedar Fair, Herschend and Merlin and is actually a better value than the others.

Universal did not originally charge for their Express Pass system it was free just like Disney. Sea World and Six Flags always charged and honestly those parks really don’t need it.

Please bear in mind that while Greg Hale is credited for the invention of Fast Pass; this is because he pitched the idea. There was a team of imagineers on his team who brainstormed and developed the concept.

Watch Defuctland video on Fast Pass, it was a severely broken system that favored the experience and those who didn't understand got none of the benefits. So Genie Plus just leveled the playing field with no prep.

Why do we always skip over that before it was genie+ it was max pass plus in Disneyland. Only you could pick the same ride multiple times in a day.

I remember back when I worked at the Magic Kingdom, when they introduced Fast Pass in the late 1990's, I was able to talk with management and even some Imagineers and they admitted that the real reason behind fast pass was to try and get guests into gift shops and restaurants to spend money while they waited for their time to ride. That is why they had the original time window of an hour to return. They tried to originaly make it were you did not have enough time to do another attraction or you may miss your window. However, due to the guest complaints and the unfortunate side effects of ride breakdowns, they had to allow the guests to ride even after their hour window of time.

100%, I haven't been yet to both parks in the U.S. I am writing this months later and Disney is increasing the genie+ prices which makes zero sense. I feel like they should allow people to pay the one time fee for the genie+ for their entire trip and allow the lightning choices be free like the virtual queue options. In my personal opinion.

Genie + is not a money grab? Of course it is. 100%! Especially once they put in that tiered pricing. RJay is the only one who I can agree with. Unfortunately, it is what it is.

When they describe genie and try to make it spin, nothing about what they describe sounds fun. Only reason id ever be tempted to return to these parks is for my kids sake. Thank god for these sobering reminders to not listen to my nostalgia.

O.k. say what you really think RJay, don't hold it in, let it out. I'm sorry for those who have to spend so much extra on it because this is their one big vacation. Otherwise, I'm blah about it. I rarely used the paper fastpasses, we would sometimes get them but we just have never been the type that wanted to be tied down to a specific time frame. I think we gave away more than we used. On to FP+ and again, didn't use it that often. No way do I know what I want to ride 60 days away and certainly didn't want to be tied down to a certain time. Sometimes I'd look while I was on the bus on the way to a park and if there was something within a hour, I'd book it. Or I'd look while standing in line and if there was something that might be about the time I should be getting off the ride, I'd book it. We always just stood in line and still do. But, I also don't book ADRs in advance, just day of. We are very on the fly folks.

this video can be summed up in one word...GREED! there's no other explanation for why after years of free fast passes that disney would suddenly convert them into something designed to squeeze a few more bucks out of guests. there was nothing wrong with the free fast pass system. it helped improve the guest experience and kept stand by lines from getting out of hand. not everyone can afford lightning lanes and genie plus, so now the stand by lines suffer as a consequence. it sucks, plain and simple.
