What do two high-level European leader visits to India tell us about Europe's aims to deepen defense and economic ties with New Delhi? German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited a German frigate and a supply ship in the Indian state of Goa. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez inaugurated India’s first privately-run aircraft making facility - a joint venture between Airbus Spain and India’s Tata group. The plant will help deliver the bulk of 56 Airbus C295 planes to the Indian Air Force. In addition, both European nations are competing to supply India with its next-generation Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) submarines, with an emphasis on stealth. What is driving both countries' pivot to India?
Our guests:
Mathieu Duchâtel
Institut Montaigne Resident Senior Fellow and Director of International Studies
Marcin Jerzewski
European Values Center for Security Policy Taiwan Office Head

Both of the guests fail to mention even once that the European countries are coming to India because of explosive growth India is seeing and now has more and more money and a huge market. It is not the love of them to give equipment to India but it is love of money because now they know they can get it.

Yep. One of them mentioned that France has been a military partner since 90s, but failed to mention that broadly EU was almost hostile towards India due to direct orders from their master - USA.

It certainly removes the idea of a pro-India bias. Such confidence in reporting is very important. Such lack of confidence is big reason Trump won by such a huge margin. Nobody believes the MSM here in the US anymore. BTW, I fully support Indian self-sufficiency in their national defense. And I should also mention India's strong defense of Bangladeshi Hindus.

As an Indian I am speaking here .... The primary emphasis of India at the moment is to ' Make in India ' that is why India is developing its own defence industrial base here in India .... at the same time in the wake of Ukraine-Russia war , India is now trying to shift from Russia towards the West .... I think India will rely highly on countries like Germany , France and Spain for the ToT purposes .... having said that France specially holds a significant advantage here as Indo-French defence ties are the oldest among its partners .... India considers France as a more reliable partner then say the US or Germany .... so in short what I am trying to say here is that India might replace Russia with France in the next few decades to come while at the same time trying to go for ' Made in India ' defence products that is what India's action plan at the moment seems to be .... India considers France and Israel to be its major defence partners and tried and tested friends .... 🙏 ....

My suggestion to Taiwanese friends is to protect & stand for yourself. No one will fight your war for you. Ukraine is a good example, eventually when this war is over, their economy will have gone decades behind the world. The west is still under the imperial hangover. And they will ensure there are constant conflicts in Asia, so we can’t grow and challenge the west’s control of the global economy.

China's economic collapse is fueling social tensions that make people more likely to commit aggresive crimes out of anger or desperation, analysts say. Multiple students were injured after a car crashed into people outside a primary school in central China on November 19, 2024, state news agency Xinhua reported. Eight people expired and 17 others injured in a stabbing attack on a college campus in the eastern Chinese city of Yixing on November 16, 2024. And on Monday (November 11, 2024) the country witnessed its deadliest massacre in a decade, when a man ploughed a car into crowds at a sports complex in the southern city of Zhuhai, expiring 35 and wounding 43, according to official figures. In other cases, a middle-aged man used a kniffee and firearm to expire at least 21 people in eastern Shandong province in February, and a 55-year-old man rammed a car into a crowd in the central city of Changsha in July, expiring eight. A 50-year-old man wounded five in a kniffee attack at a school in Beijing last month; a 37-year-old man fatally sttaabbed three and injured 15 in a Shanghai supermarket in September; and a 44-year-old unemployed man fatally kniffeed a Japanese schoolboy in Shenzhen the same month. High-profile attacks in recent months have rattled a Chinese population. Images & comments circulating online of these incidents are quickly wiped from social media platforms to minimize any perception of social instability. Many online have taken to warning each other to be cautious as people are becoming more desperate and unstable - and taking “revenge against society.”

Germany has never been a friend of India like its neighbor France or importantly Russia. Now that they face flak from China they are being opportunistic by now trying to cozy up to India. Even during Galwan crisis when PLA violated the border agreements Germany under Merkel was silent and chose to ignore it coz it depended on China for trade and exports; while it wanted India to go against Russia during Ukraine conflict

Germany’s past silence during the Galwan crisis and its dependence on China for trade definitely raises questions about its priorities. While it’s now trying to strengthen ties with India, it's important to acknowledge that India has consistently maintained a neutral stance on global issues, carefully balancing its strategic partnerships, including with Russia. India’s cautious approach is logical, as it values its independence and long-term interests over opportunistic shifts.

They ended up buying cotton at a price of 500 rupees more than the government’s price, and they’re exporting it back to their own country. It’s incredible! I never thought I’d see Westerners in cotton fields of India. It’s all thanks to Modi’s diplomacy. No wonder this never happened before in other regimes.

Money! No other reason. Not a single expert here mentioned that Europe had attitude of putting embargo on India and treated India as one of their colonial states. Even a year ago, Germany treated India very badly. They signed a deal to supply MP6 weapon to Indian special forces and also engines for Indian Light Tank. They reneged on the deal and thought India would beg for a deal with Germany and tow European line w.r.t Russia. India simply developed ASMI to replace MP6 and developed 1500cc engine for their tanks. This has alarmed Germany who are begging for 7B$ submarine deal now.

The largest client of the Indian defence industry is not Myanmar as was incorrectly mentioned at 11:50 but rather Armenia, which has bought a variety of Indian defence products, most built by the Indian private sector.

I see a lot of comments regarding there being no Indian in the panel. I feel the DEI mentality has gone too far. The main consideration should be whether the panel represented India's perspective sincerely and informatively. I feel the long haired person did do that. At the same time, Indians are 1.4B people, so it shouldn't be that difficult to find one for the panel. But I still would like to give them the benefit of doubt considering they presented all perspectives equally.

No , I beg to differ . Even though EU think India is growing they still think still is no where near them . They still have Coloniser mentality that's why we need a Indian to represent us to tell the world it's not because India wat to diversify but because world need India to diversify their manufacturing Hub and being the biggest .arket in the world and have largest Younger people India is a power in itself . The only place we are lacking is Skill . Thats why we need their expertise and then we will create our own Manufacturing hub like China . Where as EU economy is drowning and their Population is also declining. They need India for their product for production and solution. US is ahead in this term US just capture the best skilled labour from India . There is 13% Indian in health , 10% engineer in Nasa and And many more at CEO position and Indian only account for 1% of their population and pay 6% of taxes .

Why? Because; India itself is a growing Huge Market. 2/ Huge supply of Young technical Work force; 3/US-China Trade war changes the Dynamics India now should rise to take this opportunity; open up. and start building and start ATMANIRBHAR/SEF RELIANT. which in any case shall be SELF RELIANT Sooner or LATER SO WHY NOT NOW. 4/If Germany can make CHINA as their BACK YARD FACTORY. Why not India? 5/But India should on its own start building all war machines from scratch immediately. rest will come following

Your assessment is completely incorrect. This is merely a temporary arrangement. Mark my words-India will eventually return to Russia for purchasing military hardware, including ships, submarines, and fighter planes. Europe and the USA will never have India as a permanent customer for their weapons or defense equipment. Our long-standing and trusted ally, Russia, will always remain our go-to partner for armaments. India and Indians do not trust products from the Western world. We have unwavering confidence in the reliability and quality of products manufactured by our best friend, Russia. From India..
