well, its not only that he's hot. Ian is a charismatic guy, sure! But Damon is the most complex character on the show. Yes, the writers do f#ck him up in thw later seasons, but his character arc and motivations just *work*, so maybe despite being in a supernatural show, he is realistic enough to fall for him. :D idk tho

I think females went crazy over Damon (Myself included) because he was MULTILAYERED. The fact he was a Vampire AUTOMATICALLY added a Sexy element to him... Powerful, Handsome, Charming, Snarky, & Impulsive. But, aside from that, there was something about Damon that let you know that he was MORE than what he seemed. On the outside, he's a cold-blooded killer, heartless, Confident, shallow, aloof, & Desired by many. But, that's only a mask .... The REAL Damon is Loving, Intelligent, Insecure, Protective, Vulnerable, Romantic, Supportive & Lonely. Now granted, I was NOT a fan of Elena, not by any means. But, I understood her importance, and how much she meant to him; and the ability she had to tap into that hidden, reserved side of Damon. The only other person besides his Brother Stefan, who actually KNEW how multi-layered Damon could be.

Damon is not toxic. He wants to be selfish and do the wrong thing but in the end he does the right thing or the thing that he thinks needs to be done.Even if the person he did it for hates him for it.Even though Bonnie, Elena, Stefan, Enzo and Caroline claimed that they hated him, he still saved them all countless times.Take the night Klaus was doing the sacrifice for example.Tyler and Caroline were trapped in the tomb on a full moon, Damon knew the risk, but he took it anyway, to save Elena.He didn't want Elena to die, so he basically sacrificed himself for her.Even though Damon does selfish things, he is still a pretty selfless person.There were many times he wanted to do what he wanted to do for himself but chose the other person in the equation in the end.Even if it was too late, like when Valarie wanted to transfer the scar from Stefan to Damon.Damon didn't want to do it at first bc it meant not having a future with Elena. But, Valarie was about to transfer the scar when Rayna stabbed Stefan. So, yes, he may be selfish, but we all have that part to us. Where we want to out ourselves before other people. It's just life. So, Damon may have put himself before other people a few times, but in the grand seam of things, he did it for love. We do crazy things for love. Getting Katherine out of the tomb. Love. Desiccating himself so he didn't hurt anyone else. Love.
