Gohan is SLEPT on. We forget that even though Gohan slacked off with his training, he's still top 10 strongest in their universe, AND is incredibly smart with a great job. That's a CHAD

No idea where Gohan's rage came from? Look at ChiChi bro she's always raging!

Honest theory; It could also very well come from Goku. He was a very rowdy kid till he fell on his head. I feel like that's part of him, mix that with human emotion and you got a lot of potential rage that subsequently boosts saiyan power.
@matthewkuscienko46164 ай бұрын
@SokkieJr I think that makes some amount of sense, especially when you remember that Goku is a saiyen, and their race is naturally wired to battle, to the point where even as newborns, their powers are tested to see what kind of potential they might have. It's something you see pretty consistently with all pure-blooded saiyens, and it's because of their innate rage and lust for battle that causes them to seek out romantic partners that are strong above any other qualities they possess. Looking at Goku's upbringing, it's pretty clear that living with his adoptive grandfather, and then later training with the likes of Master Roshi, King Kai, and so on, that tempered him and caused him to learn to harness his rage instead of letting it control him, which he needed, seeing as he seemed to enjoy his enemies pain and suffering to a certain extent in the original Dragon Ball. This is also further backed up by the fact that they need a strong feeling of anger in order to transform into a super saiyen for the first time, which to me would all suggest that anger and rage and using it as a way to gain extra power in battle is a natural part of being a saiyen

I think that the reason why fans of Dragon Ball are like this in regards to Gohan is because after Z started, the series became much more about battling against more and more powerful enemies. Because of this, seeing characters like Goku and Gohan get stronger and learn new techniques and achieve more powerful transformations is the kind of thing that hypes the fanbase up, and is arguably the reason why the series continued to remain as successful as it is for so many years after the fact. Because of this, people want to see Gohan become stronger -- both because he has the potential to be one of the strongest characters in the series if he put more effort into training, which we see both in how he was the only one strong enough to defeat Cell, and later when he became Ultimate Gohan during the Buu saga -- but also because seeing him show that kind of power makes him look badass and cool, which is what fans want to see in an action series like Dragon Ball. It's because of this, I think, that causes people to ignore the way Gohan is as a character, because it doesn't match with the direction they want to see his character taken -- AGAIN, because he's in a series that is defined by how action-packed it fights are.

Gohan only experienced trauma and loss with fighting. Goku had a lot of low stakes fights as a kid, plus he actively sought out all his masters.

I think the thing people also don't think about, when talking about time skips, you don't really put things into perspective until you actually put it in a timeline. Think about where you were in 2017 to now in 2024. Were you exercising that entire time and maintaining your physique or even exercising at all? No? Yet you give Gohan shit for it and wanting to live a normal life. Just as Saiyan Scholar says, before DBS, after Buu there was another 10 years of peace. Think about where you'll be in 2034. Are you still exercising in that time or do you want to take time off for yourself and enjoy your life or improve your career a bit. Maybe you don't want to be working out that entire time. Let the man be a nerd and enjoy his life.

Toriyamia's basic idea of gohan before he died: 1. Fighter 2.Schooler next week 3. Ignore letters that say he should be both 4. Repeat
@shawnmcvey77894 ай бұрын
Oh, the gentle kid who's been forced to fight since he was like 4 years old? The one who's first introduction to fighting starts with his dad dying, and then having to survive in the wilderness for a year? Goku had the opposite experience with fighting. It was a game for him early on, he actively chose to pursue it out of passion, and his first true martial arts battles were in the World Martial Arts Tournament. The biggest thing at stake was Goku winning and getting bored with martial arts. Gohan had planet level threats and life or death situations from early childhood on. It wasn't until he trained Goten and Videl that we see Gohan actually enjoy it.

My biggest issue is how they completely did a 180 turn in his character development, the whole point of the cell saga was for gohan to learn that he had the power to protect the earth, as emphasized by android 16 before cell stomped on his head, when he asked to fight not for the thrill but to protect the life he loved, I think it would’ve been cool if Gohan still trained but continued on his studies, because now it doesn’t make sense when they give home these crazy power jumps

Frustrating thing about Gohan is he could have literally been both a scholar and the most bad ass fighter. He could have won prize money and use that to go wrestle in boarding school, been an athlete in university (of course we would need characters who could challenge himself), trained a couple of hours a day in the time chamber or gravity room and would have been a straight up bad ass. Buu would have never been a problem and he would have remained the strongest. You think we both Goku and Chichi pushing him in different directions he would try to balance the two, but no, he goes all or nothing in either direction.

I honestly think that Gohan fights because he knows he is his daddy's son, and he could get away with it. I think deepdown he wanted to be a hero, like his dad, but stopped trying to save everyone because it was so much work on top of the life he was making for himself. With no greater threats to the Earth, and tired of saving people, he fell off his training. Bro got cocky because his daddy is strong, trained to be like his dad until he surpassed his dad, became a hero to Earthlings, failed to save the world when it mattered, then retired to make a family. It has "I wanted to be like my father" and "way in over my head" all over.

I just think him stopping to train all the time is just a bit of a....well, it's not a smart choice. Since at one point or another he'll be the one to protect earth from some threat once goku and vegeta are gone. I like his character progression don't get me wrong, but at one point he might be the one that stands between a threat and earth, like, idk cell max. Gohan stopped training after the tournament and beating cell max was paramount....yet it was pretty much luck that he could turn beast and save the planet. I like how he is a scholar and has a happy family life and back then I actually enjoyed the lighthearted highschool arc since I found it fun how he still had the strength to make a small earthquake because he couldn't protect someone, but at least staying in shape to be able to have access to his peak performance might be a smart choice for when the old generation of earth's protectors are gone.

I swear kakarot always takes my breath away in terms of visual and overall telling of the dragon Ball story. Do you guys think the new Tenkaichi will be better than this game? Obviously xenoverse has kakarot beat in terms of gameplay, but this game seems to have it in terms of visuals and story.... I wonder what the new Tenkaichi will bring us? Will the new Tenkaichi be the overall BEAST of the dragon Ball experience? Or will it be lacking in some areas like xenoverse and kakarot do?

My head canon for why the rage was there was Chi-Chi. That or, he’s kinda like me. He enjoys sparring lightly, only learned martial arts to protect himself and others, would rather nerd out on studying that fighting, but when pushed to the limit and forced into a fight with someone he really doesn’t even want to get them or fight in the first place even if he can. He is angry that a fight happened at all but still tries to avoid harming anyone unless pushed tk the absolute edge where he is just so pissed about all the hills hit he lets loose

Hmmm....well, this is an interesting problem. What you say about gohan's character here is very consistent and logical. Yes, Gohan is not like Goku, who has a constant love for fighting strong opponent, whether there is a good reason for it or not. Gohan surely had other interests than just simply fighting. Which is not a bad thing per se, as this gives gohan extra character dimensions and not simply be a Goku clone, which Toriyama(RIP) himself didn't wanted for gohan. But, this is were the problem lies. As dragon ball franchise is a battle anime series, characters must engage in battle for the story to move forward. That's why characters like goku, vegeta, piccolo, broly, beerus etc; are considered relevant to the series because they are willing to participate in a conflict. Whether or not theirs reason to fight could come across as silly, juvenile, convenient, serious or ego driven. Problem with gohan here is not the character itself, but it's the inconsistency and lack of care given to him and his reasoning behind his willingness to fight in terms of storytelling. Fans of dragon ball must understand that for Gohan to be relevant, he must be a fighter/engage in a conflict and he can be. It doesn't matter if he liked or didn't like art of fighting from the beginning. But, its difficult because it seems toriyama wasn't interested in making gohan relevant, even his latest appearance in Dbs: Superhero. Gohan seem to act like a supporting character next to Piccolo in the movie. Which is kind of a shame.

It's also becus Goku grew up with a positive association with combat thanks to Grandpa Gohan. Son Gohan's 1st experience with fighting involved getting kidnapped by ur alien uncle then thrown into the wilderness by another mean alien. Sons don't always follow the same path as their father. Look at Goten n Trunks. Half saiyans tend to find interest in other activities next to fighting.

I sometimes wonder if Gohan fanboys even realize that he never wanted to be a fighter in the first place. But was actually forced into it against his will. And you can't just force someone to be someone they're not. Not to mention, Gohan's introduction to fighting was also a lot more traumatizing than how Goku was introduced to it.

the one thing that bothers me is in this video you talk like its not against his character to stop training completely, I'll agree he liked peaceful times but I'm sure he was also aware how often danger came, to me it would have made sense for Gohan to include at least some training of course not the regimen Vegita or Goku kept going but to completely ignore training while the odds that someone even stronger would come along is at least low doesn't make sense to me especially after having trouble with Dabura who was at a similar strength to cell after not training much.

What do you think would have happen if Gohan loved to fight like a full blooded Saiyan? For a start if Gohan, Piccoro & Kuririn all blasted Nappa it would probably lead to a gravely injured Nappa.

In the most recent chapter of the manga you actually see this. He's smiling and loving the fight. It's where he finally feels like he'd grown up. Poor dude had so much trauma around fighting. It took having his own daughter getting kidnapped to overcome that.

@@shawnmcvey7789 That make sense. Gohan loves his family and friends, he will do anything for them. If he helped from the start than Kuririn being murdered by Freeza, would have been the trigger for a SSJ.

@@eranshachar9954 He did what he could.
