Gold and Silver are often seen as a safe-haven asset that can protect against inflation and economic uncertainty. But like any investment, it carries risks. To determine if gold is the right investment option for you, an investment advisor can help you weigh the potential benefits and risks of investing in gold. They can also help you create a well-diversified portfolio that includes gold as part of a broader investment strategy. An investment advisor can help you decide how much of your portfolio should be allocated to gold and select other investments that can complement your gold holdings.

People choose to buy gold for various reasons, such as it’s historical role as a store of value and medium of exchange, it’s potential as a hedge against inflation or currency devaluation, and it’s relative scarcity compared to other commodities. Gold also offers diversification benefits to investment portfolio due to its low correlation with stocks and bonds. However, investing in gold carries risks and may not be suitable for everyone. Investors should carefully evaluate their objectives, risk tolerance and financial situation before deciding.

Prof Hanke is spot on the "waiting" function ( so to speak ). The only point is that is not "waiting" that is important but "depriving from current money" which incentivizes the players in the economy (who are competing to receive the money) to provide something of a better value as to incentivize the spenders to spend more as they start to perceive higher current value. Deprivations always improve any system as it incentivizes that system to optimize its resources and to achieve higher value with the same restrictions.

It's correct that in trade both sides should benefit, HOWEVER that doesn't work when good paying jobs are traded for profits that go to the handful of wealthy who don't feel the impact of the trade deficit at all. The middle class ends up eating that deficit as per usual and they don't see any benefit from it other than more cheap junk at Walmart. Add to that the theft of intellectual property and the dumping of products to kill what's left of our industries. We need a levelling of the playing field or we are just going to see the gap widen between rich and poor. The vast majority of people don't think Trump's ideas are stupid as the professor suggests. What they want, is guarantees that their lifestyles and power brokering, will not suffer. But back to if you want real change. It’s simple: empower the people…and empower them to make those changes themselves. And that, by its very nature, demands that you disempower yourself as the “leaders.” (and they won’t). The China strategy is to basically subsidize (equilivent to a tariff on our goods) anything they want to dominate and then literally flood that market, to cripple ALL competition. Automobiles, farm equipment and heavy construction equipment are the markets they are hitting hard now. Then they get it till there's a war later on and no mining, manufacturing, or materials to literally make anything for war, we end up with a country full of useless academics saying "we have to surrender"! I don't believe tariffs are the complete answer but, we got along fine without China, before Nixon, and we can get along fine again without China. "Climate change" fiction is the reason they have destroyed energy, and likewise the reason for higher costs across the board. This is IN ADDITION to monetary inflation. Biden was the worst of both worlds.

Just FYI betting market aren’t necessarily any better at predicting than anything else. They’re also very prone to manipulation as a means to sway public enthusiasm and opinion. They’re also oftentimes not even measuring the opinions of Americans. Yes they predicted Trump, but I also bet that they attract the type of person who is more likely to want Trump to win, in which case they’re prone to a type of confirmation bias because many people placing bets on Trump *wanted* him to win. Anyways, just a thought - I’d take them with a grain of salt.

I don’t think that high savings is the driver of trade surplus. It may be a factor, but it’s not axiomatic. China exports because it has low labour costs and regulation, saving is incidental; a cultural factor. It would equally import more if that money was redirected to consumption, but from where? China, because the US makes nothing anymore, having outsourced this and lost the capacity in that era of globalisation.

Also I wouldnt rely on the betting markets either lol. They got it totally wrong in 2016 and again in 2020… Just because the have their money in it doesnt mean shit. Most likely the big money already knew Trump would win this year so it was easy money.

Hilarious how he says that with trade there’s winning on both sides. But he can’t have that same logic and understanding with certain forms of incentive such as for Evies, etc. Just exposes his ridiculous, myopic biases. But he’s not alone, of course.

Subsidies can work, if they are made for productive industry, like computer chips. EV's are non-productive. They are built for social narrative/welfare. Not only were EV charging stations heavily subsidised by Biden, but they actually built almost NO CHARGING stations.

No, Hanke is correct. His view on trade is very basic and generally agreed with among economists across the spectrum. Goods using gov subsidies result in net economic loss. Trade deficit is largely due to our federal budget deficit. Foreigners prefer buying our debt instead of our goods. Not necessarily a bad thing.
