Why Gregor Didn't Execute Order 66

In The Bad Batch Episode 14, we got to see Gregor, finally, and we learned that he really wasn't too down with what the Empire has going on. After he got blown up in Season 5 of The Clone Wars, we haven't seen or heard from him, until now (of course in Rebels but I mean before he gets old). Gregor doesn't seem to be as aggressive or dogmatic as the other Clones, and Clone Commandos. Why? Did he execute Order 66? What happened to his chip? Let's talk about it.

Something I noticed about Gregor's helmet, the tick marks on his helmet most likely represent the "klankers" he's destroyed in each battle. Normally those marks are in groups of 5, but his are randomly grouped.

It's normal to group tick marks in fives, I think it was the battles or campaigns that he was in and not droids he's destroyed because Rex estimates it was in the tens of thousands that he destroyed. 👍✨

Gregor had amnesia before the Rhydonium explosion, so it's possible his chip was malfunctioned as far back as when that happened.

Gregors behavior seems more erratic than when we saw him in clone wars - when we saw him again in rebels, i thought the behavior was caused by the removal of the chip. But seeing him again in the bad batch he had not removed it. I know that patients that sustained injury in the frontal lobe causes changes in behavior, he most likely received an injury during the explosion.

I'd say at the point we see him CW his chip is already out of play. He took a big enough hit to the head to cause amnesia in the first place. His whole personality would have really started to change from that point, plus who knows how long he was away from other clones before getting put back into circulation as a Commando and training the new TK troopers. He'd have had to run alone for a bit where he could have started to pick up the quirks we end up seeing in Rebels.

Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI is his problem. aka shell shock or your "blunt force trauma from an explosion" (I have it). Blunt force does not occur in an explosion, well if inertia smashed your head into something, but still the concussion(report from blast) blast is what gets ya marbles shaken about.

Gregor is such an underrated character that desperately needed some more attention. He's one of the few clone troopers from the Clone Wars series that I liked because of the way he fought through amnesia and came out like a badass in the end. But now with the Bad Batch series, I'm glad that they incorporate Gregor into the spinoff series, despite having a some what weird voice, odd tendency, and bit of a comic relief.

My perspective, and I may be projecting a bit, with Gregor's use of jokes and inappropriate laughter is how he copes with the things he has seen or done. I'd be weary of him when he gets quiet because that means he is not coping and internalizing that trauma or reliving past events. I can relate with him more than any other character in the Galaxy.

That's brilliant, that's a really perfect take on why they were transitioning away from clones and taking as many conscripts as they could, to build not necessarily a more skilled army but just to control the Galaxy with sheer numbers. Your analysis is always so spot on, always so impressed to hear your thoughts on Star wars related stuff. I'm 45 years old, fun Star wars story, my mom tried to take me with her in the theater to see the original Star wars movie when I was less than a year old and the two attempts she made she had to run out of the theater with me because within the first couple of minutes of the movie Darth Vader shows up on the screen and apparently I screamed and cried inconsolably and everyone in the theater was pissed off at my mom and wanted her out of there with her baby.. my first Star wars memory was in first grade a rich classmate had a birthday where they rented Vans and we all drove 50 miles to the nearest movie theater to see the premiere of return of the Jedi, I think I was seven, but I will never ever ever forget that

I hope to see Boss, Fixer, Scorch, and Sev. The reason I said Sev is because George Lucas had a plan for a game called "Rebel Commando" if Imperial Commando didn't work. From what I know about that canceled sequel to Republic Commando was that it would follow Sev after his "death." If Sev appears, and considering that they're slowly recanonizing Legends, Sev could still be alive if they recanonize the events of Republic Commando.

My theory is that Clone Commandos are fully autonomous and don't have a chip. Their following of Order 66 is down to their allegiance and training and they could choose to not comply with the Order but went along with it as an act of duty. In Legends I believe that Commandos were more likely to disobey Order 66 because they are more individual and free thinking, but that didn't mean they did. Most of the Clone Commandos including Delta Squad complied but very few refused the Order and/or deserted the army.

My theory for why the Empire transitioned from a clone army to a civilian army is that Palps understood that the galaxy's citizens would eventually rise up against a clone army, which would be seen as an external, oppressing force. Whereas an army made up of the galaxy's own citizens would be harder to resist, because its own people were part of the Empire. By getting the general population involved it would foster a feeling of inclusion rather than oppression. Also, a clone army on a galaxy-wide scale would be far more costly and resource intensive than just enlisting people. It would be a much less effective army, but could overwhelm systems by scale alone.

Why does everyone always forget that Gregor is purposely made crazy and 'comedic' because of the explosion in Abafar. You can't just come out of an explosion without receiving any physical or mental damage, with Gregor suffering from the latter.

We have to consider these “chips” are organic. Not necessarily a silicon eprom we know as chips. I think therefore they are no more susceptible to emp than a humanoid brain. So let us consider smaller organic materials usually have a faster decay rate. Also regardless the manufacturing process there will always be a bad batch😂. Through this line of thought it’s possible to conclude two factors affecting performance. 1. A knock on the noggin could course chip pathways to sever or conversely re-establish pathways to the brain. 2. The organic circuitry breaking down. Palpatine being the brilliant mind he is must have realized this possible outcome therefore the desire to recruit from the willing populace.

I always thought his chip would’ve been toast prior to Clone Wars S5 because in legends he has amnesia prior to that episode from a prior battle, and it would make sense that whatever led to the amnesia would also deactivate his chip. Well, none of the videos about Gregor seem to address this, but Gregor has had *two* severe brain injuries, the first one that made him lose his memory on the planet that the droids found him on, but then also the explosion. If head trauma causes the chips to malfunction, he's got a stronger case for it than virtually anyone else.

I just went and watched the Episode of Rebels that reintroduces Rex and crew. Gregor has the same scar on his head as Rex and Wolf where the chip was removed. My guess is getting blown up...a couple of times damaged the chip. He did have amnesia the first time we met him in the Clone Wars most likely due to head trauma as well which probably didn't do the chip any favors either. Still it looks like as soon as he hooked up with Rex they had it removed. Better safe than sorry.

I think maybe since Gregor and houser are first gen clones maybe the chips have started to decay in some of them because of there age. Since the chip is semi organic, organic material starts to age and decay over time. This may be why some of the regs surrendered with houser. Also some Of the first gen clones may be under the affects Bc everyone is different. Identical twins age differently even though DNA is identical

Is there any explanation of how the clone numbers work? I mean, most of the Clone Commanders are numbered with CC-xxxx, but there are also Commanders with CT-xxxx. There are two problems I have with some of these theories: 1) Several Troopers must have been electro-shocked or close to explosions of some of these „EMP-grenades“ they used against droids -> we don‘t know of malfunctioning chips because of that 2) I would trust Omega‘s words from episode 1... Crosshair isn‘t responsible for his actions... not until lately I would assume! And I‘d further guess he‘s playing Rampart now! His words to Hunter last episode were pretty dubious. I guess he wanted his brothers, or at least Hunter, „inside“ so they can execute a plan of his... whatever that might be 😅
