So many people (including myself) just want another Maroon 5 album in the vein of Songs About Jane. None of their work after that comes close. The band might as well be Adam Levine and touring session musicians

I’ve always thought that Valentine is a criminally underrated guitarist (considering the band is now pretty much “Adam Levine and some other dudes I guess”), his playing always fits M5’s music and he definitely has a lot of really solid parts on the first few albums (also one thing I’ve always found amusing is that my guitar teacher at college looks a lot like James, same hair, beard and probably about the same height)

The original line up was a bunch of skilled guys Adam Levine (Lead Singer, occasional guitarist) James Valentine (Lead Guitarist) Jesse Carmichael (Keyboardist/Rhythm Guitarist sometimes I think) Mickey Madden (Bassist) Ryan Dusick (Drummer) They were all really good at what they did, although personally I feel that Mickey didn't do as much as he could've. But now we have Adam Levine (Lead Moron, occasionally a good guitarist) PJ Morton (Basically a hitchhiker) James Valentine (Underutilized Lead Guitarist who is probably very bored now and is only there for a paycheck) Jesse Carmichael (Keyboardist/Rhythm Guitarist sometimes, he's probably having more fun than James because some songs literally depend on him) Sam Farar (Bassist, he's also apparently a multi instrument guy but idk) Matt Flynn (Drummer, he's cool ig) Went from some skilled guys playing music to four skilled guys, one hitchhiker who is also skilled, and some sellout idiot who is basically being controlled by commercial stuff and record companies. Sad they got turned into marketable pop machines instead of being a good pop rock band like they were before.

I haven't heard really anything remotely close to that from them since. If they ever did a tour of just the songs off that album I would be buying tickets yesterday. Just like how Bruno Mars started great then when the pop trash rout except he's at least made the turn back toward great with silk sonic.
