Being able to finally pilot the M-19A1 Brutal Crab but _not_ being able to rotate when zoomed in or strafe in it was a massive disappointment 😩

The original two X-com games had a similar difficulty bug. The first one would default to easy after shutting down the first time, leading to many complaints about a lack of challenge. So "Terror from the Deep" was designed to be more difficult from the start, but also had the bug in reverse, switching to maximum difficulty. These being rather long turn-based tactical games, it was a bit unlikely someone would play it all in one sitting and thus experience the ideal difficulty. Fan patches/Open X-Com have fixed these issues though.

I would love it. Sadly, the creator (and that of Grandia) died. It was his pet project, used originally as a test for the Grandia engine so... I don't think they want to do it, out of respect for him.

I'm hoping to if I manage to get 5000 subs by the end of the year. I want to do that and Line of Contact. Right now, though, I basically need to make the money to buy the controller in order to do so. I'm really hoping I can. Its a stand-out piece of software and hardware in mech gaming history! @@KeiNova well i hope u do anyway its such a great game and the steel battalion line of contact community is great at helping you get set up and playing, they've also nearly managed to get the online campaign mode working for LOC that was shut down so there's that to look forward to.

I remember seeing a review from Gamepro magazine back in the day that started with the words "oh my god they murdered Gungriffon". Never looked at the game again.

That is a horrible statement, but also pretty legendary. Believe it or not, it's really close to the originals. I think the multiplayer component was what really soured people's views on this game. I heard Insignia brought the servers back, so I might check it out when I have a modded Xbox.

For some reason this video does not show up on my subscription feed. I've heard of this phenomenon for years but this is the second time it happened to me; the first was for one of the your previous Gungriffon reviews. The only reason I noticed is because the video thumbnail was up on the KZbin home screen.

Neither of them play alike, Blaze was a strange entry in the series and no other game is like it. This plays like the first games. You might like it though, Gungriffon was good even when others thought it was bad.

i have the japanese copy sitting right here in my home in Tokyo, this game Owns 💖. it will only run on the original xbox i love GameArts ip's/tech i have them all . i know Tecmo did this game it's great and absurd to buy an O.G. Xbox to play this one game. brother thanks for the video.

Tecmo only published it, it's by Game Arts and it's late-founder and creator of Grandia etc! So glad to hear you gave it a chance. SO many people do not, and they just see that 'Not Signed-In' text in the corner and give up.

Ok, the difficulty swap thing makes sense, as I've seen this thing before (i.e certain ports for the game Blood on PC). I wish I still had my copy of Allied Strike so I could try it again on normal, since after countless deaths on the second mission, I gave up and got rid of it. But, that said, I still enjoyed what little time I had that wasn't ramming my head into a wall. Time to hunt down a new copy.

I had the same problem! I beat the second mission by a hair but the third was even more difficult. I almost gave up, but then I tried it and it was way better. I didn't know Blood did that, I used to play it all the time. 🤔 It's luckily really cheap, like 26 on Amazon weirdly.

@@KeiNova I think it was a DOSbox thing; if you loaded a game, it would sometimes swap difficulties.

Do you think the final Gungriffon game would have been successful? I dunno but I like to think that way, it look a bit worse than the older games for some reason due to my biases but would love to give it a try.

It might have been if there wasn't a focus on multiplayer. There was some suspicion by outlets that it might have a rushed beta, I couldn't find any concrete evidence. It looks okay to me, but it's less of a technical wonder like the originals were. I still love the first two, Blaze was okay but nothing to write home about.

0:47 it could also be that it's stuck on old consoles people don't even know they can emulate.

At the time it was released, that was not the case. You couldn't emulate even a PS1 properly.

To be honest, you might be the first person ever to discover that Easy mode is actually Hard Mode. How many difficulty are there, is Hard Mode Normal? Normal Mode seems to be rhe actual EZ mode.

There is only Easy and Normal, which is odd since most Gungriffon games have a few more modes. I don't think this game lasted long, so people barely cared enough when they were met with extreme difficulty. It would be cool if I was the first!

Well i just got hold of a copy finally. Its brutal. Don't like the controls yet, and it sounds like some of that depressing music has snuck its way in somehow from the PS2 version. I wonder if the keyboard mouse attachment will work?

For me, the difficulty was broken. Normal was incredibly difficult for no reason. You may have to tinker with it a little.

@@KeiNova Yes, i read the posts about that, i think you meant to write ["easy mode" was incredibly difficult for no reason] and the "normal mode" is actually a glitched "easy mode". I am thinking the "easy-normal" glitch we call out, is really a sneaky developers secret IQ test for the original sega saturn GG players. They wanted to see who would figure it out. Looks like you and a few others have passed their test. Don't know this for sure, got zero proof and zero evidence, but....i am usually almost always right! just saying.

Odd. For me, it was actually easier on the hardest difficulty. Playing that second mission on 'normal' was incredibly difficult. I try my best not to touch easy modes, because they tend to water down an experience, and it doesn't make for a good opinion. I guess it doesn't matter with this one though. I do wonder if it was a trick, though. Or maybe they thought it was too easy and only modified one mode instead of all of them - so the discrepancy is there?@@JDVHS

I did funnily enough try the game (not the others though). I do prefer this game's style overall compared to Mechassault in terms of gameplay and just the actual mech designs (BT mechs just never interested me personally). I just wish the allied AI was better and it wasn't so difficult cause I could never get past the 2nd-to-final mission. I usually don't put games on easy, but I might check back on what difficulty setting I had my game on once I get a better xbox controller. I am sorry to hear what happened to the creator though. May Takeshi Miyaji rest in peace.

I don't usually play anything on easy either, but there was something extreme about the game. I switched it to normal, since it somehow defaulted to easy, and it was balanced. Go figure! If you made it that far, it's still a decent feat. The game isn't totally hard but it's still difficult. That river defense mission is brutal. I love the designs as well. Thank you for the comment!

It's a shame Allied Strike, Metal Wolf Chaos, and Steel Battalion where Xbox exclusive. Not that there was any shortage of mech games on the ps2 of course.

@KeiNova I had no idea they remastered Metal Wolf Chaos, though it does make sense to do so since the majority of the Japanese audience the game was catered to missed out on it due to it being an Xbox exclusive.

Nah, it sadly isn't. And, it's the only series entry on Xbox to boot. :/ You'd need a Saturn, PS2 , and Xbox to play them all.
