These Moomin videos are getting so many comments, I'm finding it hard to keep up with all of them. I'd love to give every comment a heart, just to let you all know I'm reading every comment and appreciate them so much, and I'd love to be able to always be able to reply to questions and stuff, but it's kind of getting overwhelming. I'm still new to this. But to let you all know, I do read the comments, and I appreciate all the love, support, and information! I intend to cover the full series, up to 78 probably, because that's about where people are telling me I should stop, I intend to react to the movies once the series is over, and perhaps the 2019 series, and may even make a video or two on the books and comics! Thank you all so much for your support!~ ❤

I just found your video and I haven't even gotten to the end yet, but I was so excited to see someone doing a videos on this show. Having grown up with it here in Norway, I truly believe that this was an important aspect of not just my childhood, but in shaping who I am today, and it's really fun to watch somebody go through this for the first time. The first thing I did when I found your video was to check your channel to see if you had done a video on a specific Moomin movie, because if you like this show this much I would love to see your reactions to this movie. It is called Comet In Moominland, and there are several versions of it. The one I'm talking about was animated by the same Japanese studio that did this series, and I have had a really hard time finding an official English dub of it, having wanted to share it with Engligh-speaking friends of mine in the past. Wikipedia does say that there was an English dub released along with a German DVD-release, so in theory it should be possible to dig it up. I just wanted to let you know, as I did a quick search and didn't see anybody else bringing it up (though with this many comments someone must have!). It really is an amazing movie, and it takes this series to a new level. It also has a few 'hooks' to the show that you might recognize along the way, though I believe the movie is actually set before the show (I might be wrong on that, it's been a few years). If you could find it I am certain you would dig it! Either way, thank you for making these videos, this is great!

I'm loving this! So excited for your Moomin journey! I know we're not there yet, but I'd recommend checking out "season 2" after the first 78 episodes as well as Moomin and the Comet (1992) perhaps. The stories in season 2 are a lot of fun and there's only 26 episodes. Just to mention a few, in episode 84 they set up a sand art exhibition on the beach and My is really great in it, episode 92 includes one of the best father/son moments of the series, in episode 97 we're trying to figure out what's wrong with My, she won't tell the others and it's a really cute episode.. episode 100 is about Mr Hemulen going absolutely nuts about the moon and it's hilarious.. and there's 7+ adventure heavy episodes that I'm sure you'd enjoy. Oh and a lot of bonding happens between Moomin and Snufkin in season 2. I hope you'll at least check it out and decide for yourself.

My friend has a Moomin tent. Not a kids' tent, an actual tent for camping. I remember once drinking Moomin tea from my Moomin mug while wearing a Moomin pajama in my bed with Moomin sheets. The only thing I was missing was a Moomin tea spoon. Bc I haven't bought one yet. Some people even have little playhouses designed to look like the moominhouse! As someone from Finland, I definitely grew up with this Moomin series. I'm glad you started to watch 90s Moomins too and became a fan as immediately as I did when i was a very young kid. The soundtrack of 90s Moomins is the best music that ever exists. Hobgoblin kinda look likes Magus from Chrono Trigger. I'm pretty sure Akira Toriyama was inspired by Hobgoblin's character design. 90s Moomins has truly nightmarish scenes that are even more scarier than most of the horror movies. But if you think those scenes are scary, you're gonna have nightmares from other horror scenes in the later episodes. At least I got horrifying nightmares from the later horror scenes.

Fun facts: 1. The creator of Moomins, Tove Jansson and her brother Lars (created most of the comics), kept an unusually close eye on the production of the series as previous animated adaptions had not been true to the spirit of the Moomins, stories nor comics. Of course this only includes the first season of the Moomins, the second one has only a few stories from the comics, rest is all made up. 2. Thanks to Tove's strictness, the opening song is very warm, nice and full of wonder, as she deemed the very first (japanese) version too scary and unsettling (it had children singing in a bit creepy style). 3. The opening video with moomin house in the background and text "Moomins or Tales of the Moomin Valley" was not made by the original animation studio, but combined by Finns before the series was aired in Finland. They simply copied and cut pieces from different episodes neatly together. Not sure why tho, as the japanese opening is quite fun to watch too. 4. if it wasn't for the beautiful style of Alfred J. Kwak -animation, we would not have this series at all. It's style was used to convince the Jansson's to finally, after almost 10y of begging, to give a chance for this more anime styled adaptation of the Moomins.

Having grown up with this stuff, American cartoons, especially some modern ones, seem very fast-paced (too much so imho) and immature. Children aren't stupid. They don't need every moral lesson to be spoon-fed to them. And it's ok for children to be scared like seeing Moomintroll changing into that creature for example. This show is such a classic! Thank you for reacting to it. I liked that you paid such attention to the art of this show. This is arguably the best adaptation of Tove Jansson’s work to date, and only one she personally was happy with. Speaking of art and designs, I want to highlight some of the crew behind this. The characters were created and designed by the author Tove Jansson herself, and the designs were adapted for the show by Yasuhiro Nakura-san, who worked as an animator at Studio Ghibli before, he also supervised the animation and the layouts for the show, and even storyboarded parts of it. The background art is by Art Director Jiro Kouno-san, who in recent years has been a teacher at studio Sunrise. This show is directed by Hiroshi Saito-san, whose previous work includes some of the shows belonging to the ‘World Masterpeace Theater’ so he has a history of adapting literature from around the world. The show was directly being supervised by Lars Jansson, Tove’s brother, who also drew the Moomin comic strip after his sister decided to concentrate on her career as an painter (and as an author). Tove Jansson was an interesting person and her work includes a lot of symbolism and parallels to her own life. Thank you again for taking the time to watch this absolute classic of a show! 😊

There is more love in my heart for Moomins than most other things In this world. Moominmamma is iconic, easily the best fictional mom ever written. The first female president of Finland (2000-2012) was this nice lady called Tarja Halonen and people went as far as to nickname her Moominmamma, which I think was quite fitting (even though she looks more like Conan O'Brien than an actual moomin)

As far as I know, almost all of the 90s kids in Finland grew up watching Moomins. And Finnish voice acting for the series seems to be quite as nonchalant as the English one. Moomins is quite unique what comes to showing creepy elements and making it chill as ever - you should see the Ice Queen episode of Moomins. That and the Hobgoblin were ones to scare the living crap out of me as a kid.

It's not terrible. It's just not what we grew up with so for that reason I will never prefer it personally. @@vanyadolly If you go back and watch the old dubs you'd see it's not always wholesome. It's so wonderful to seeing someone's fresh look into this series that has been part of me since I was very little! Top notch funny commentary and eagerly waiting to see more. And yes, this series does have some darker aspects, some of which haunted my nightmares when I was young. You've probably seen some episodes after these ones so you probably know already what/who I'm talking about. But I think it just makes the series that much better, you have your wholesome beautiful moments as well as your scary moments. I really wish that you'll do the whole series like this because it truly is top tier series and continuing narrative from start to finish, at least episodes 1-78. There were more episodes after that point but those never got dubbed to English. But being Finnish I've seen those episodes and they're mediocre at best, the animation studio changed and the quality dropped quite significantly. Also the episodes were more episodic with little connection and no over arching timeline/story. So you're not missing out, I've always regarded the episode 78 end of the series anyway because it wraps things up nicely. After you're done with the series, I'll recommend checking out the prequel movie, Comet in Moominland. It has a different voice cast though and the English version is little harder to find but I still recommend it greatly. It's also getting a 4k remastered version that's set to release sometime this year. Again, amazing video and commentary, can't wait to see more!

I think when it came to American cartoons, there were a few good ones but our cartoons always focused on impressing people and not as much for message. I know you said we could make fun of your stuttering but I think of your stutter in sort of the same way. That and the acceptance of the things others perceive as flaws in you but which is just part of you is a theme in moomin.
