Tove writting political satire for Garm during the second world war in which she mocked both Nazi's and the Soviet Union is not perhaps understood on how brave and risky it was. I'm Finnish and I live very near Naantali where the Moomin World is and have visited it many times as a child. It's a really fun place to visit and I felt like mentioning one thing about it not mentioned in the video. If you ever plan on coming to Finland and visiting Moomin World it's extremely important to know that it's only open in the summer (except for in some years it has been open for a week or two in winter but still it's really only open during summertime.) I also would like to elaborate on the mug collecting thing a little bit, every finnish person owns at least one of those mugs and the Fazer mug isn't actually the rarest one that excists. In 2019 there was a Fillyjonk mug with a printing error that had been auctioned for 6100€ in Huutokauppa Turenki and the wildest part is that the buyer had retuned the mug because of a small fracture but the seller believed it might actually work as a way to identify the real one from any possible fake ones and make the real one even more valuable. However the next week it was auctioned for "only" 2100€ and it's not even the only moomin mug with a printing error that has been sold for a ridiculous price.

I don't think it's fair to call Tove lesbian (I don't recall hearing her having labeled herself at all, but bisexual would seem more appropriate), considering she had at least three relationships with men, Atos Wirtanen being the most notable of her male partners. Their relationship was a serious one, she would have married him, but he was hesitating. Atos is the inspiration of Snufkin, a person who needs his privacy and alone-time and can't settle. Her next relationship was with Vivica and though it wasn't a long relationship, they remained friends. She spent the rest of her life with Tuulikki after meeting her in 1956.

The Groke is also a curse in Moomin universe, specifically because she eats people. "Mörkö vieköön" or "may the Groke take (me/you/this thing)" is said fairly often in the books and even in the 90s series! The fact that she eats people is also a sort of casual fact that happens, like I think Mymble (either her or the Muddler) in Moominpappa's Memoirs said her uncle was eaten by the Groke in passing during a conversation.

The movie "Moomins on the Riviera" is based on a comic story with same name that was drawn and written by Tove Jansson itself. And the "Moomins on the Riviera" comic story is a part of the Moomin franchise created by Tove and Lars Jansson. The film also took scenes from other comics drawn by Tove. Such as "Moomin's Desert Island" where Moomins meet shipwrecked pirates and save Mymble's Daughter. People who think that comic stories of Jansson's siblings aren’t enough or not at all Moomin-like are wrong because in the books, Moomins are just like in the comics and there is no big character difference. However, the biggest difference between comics and books is that comics have a kind of visual humor that couldn’t be created in books, and the later books have a kind of psychological depth that can’t be reached in comics.

As a Finnish person, I only really grew up with the 1990's series along with reading some of the comics that I found in my grandma's place and it has started to become a bit of a tradition to me to watch the 1990's series every few months or so as even though the series is old and seems rather child-oriented, it is a watch I heavily suggest to anyone regardless of age.

If there is no talk about snorks having ability to change their color with their emotion I will be disapointed Edit: the november book was probs not turned into episode bc it was (I think) at the time when moomins had left to go to the light house and in the series they come back home after, so that november episode should have been in the middle of those episodes

10:22 шньяка волшкньика whEEZE ok, lemme break it down. its actually pronounced shlyapa volshebnika since its literally. yk the russian transcription of шляпа волшебника - the wizard hat. its a typ-a thing like "the emerald city magician" by Alexander Volkov which is literally a narration of the sage of Oz, continued with fanfiction lmao (still love it tho, it was a part of my childhood) its just a thing that happened because of the informational blockade back in ussr, where foreign stuff was despised and forbidden but still was too good to ignore. so the wizard hat was born. it has its own aesthetic tho with its creepy artstyle. nice that its been acknowledged, even if not dived in that much

8:22 ???? Mamma and pappa are just the swedish words for mother and father. These "weird titles" they have are: mom and dad. In some of the books (finnish translations atleast, not sure anout the source material) they are called just mom and dad, without the moomin part at the front About moominpappa being called moomintroll when he was younger: could be just a petname/nickname, or moomintroll could've been named after his father. not that uncommon.

As a Pole it was so weird to see Moomins suddenly become so popular in the west and everybody treating them like this wholesome thing when here they are this thing you either love or hate and honestly I think most kids actually hated it. it's more so something you get a nostalgia for in adulthood here if anything. I'm one of the people that hated it as a kid but I'm currently going through a very, very tough time in my life so I'm desperate to experience any sort of good vibes so I just kind of am rediscovering the franchise and now I see the appeal more than I used to. Got lots of merch, Moomin tea, cocoa, mugs (not any Arabia mugs yet, but I got a glass mug and a tiny enamel mug) and some books and I gotta say it is helping me enjoy life a little more. Though I personally enjoy the darker tone of the comic strips more than the overly wholesome 90's anime.

Nice! There's also one more which is kinda funny. Apparently, not a lot of ppl know about this, but Moomin once got lost in a river(?) when he was a baby. Moominmamma and Moominpappa eventually find him but they didn't know he was their son until he drank from a certain mug and he was like "Oh I remember this mug! You're my parents!" and they were like Oh Nice! But then they ran off into the sewers(?) underground thing and left him with Snufkin lol. This was in the comics btw
