Do you think Ford will ever build a fully electric Focus RS? Let us know ⬇️
@bennicho4 жыл бұрын
It's funny how you mentioned a Fiesta RS being built instead because when I heard about this I thought why not go that way if the Focus RS is no more, because the one car that deserves the RS treatment is the Fiesta and it would sell like hot cakes.

The next full electric EU Ford (non Mustang badged) could be in the spirit of a Fiesta or a Focus since hatchbacks and crossovers are pretty popular for its size and space.
@DuvJones4 жыл бұрын
Rory Reid.... You know the Mach-E suggestion might have some merit to it, so I would keep that in the back pocket. I am pretty sure you are going to see something at Ford run with that idea because the drive train did seem like a platform that Ford build on top of, from the way that they were marketing it. And to be fair, the industry has been going in that direction for a while when it comes to EV's. I have been saying for a while that the Mustang Mach-E is a rather imperative milestone for Ford that they need to cross, it put them in a market with explosive growth, it works with their obligations with the EU regulations, and it begins work on a platform that they can build on top of for other models. It's pretty much the only reason to stick the Mustang badge on it, it is THAT important for the company.
@DuvJones4 жыл бұрын
To your question, Do I "think Ford will ever build a fully electric Focus RS?" No, not with today's technology. I say this for two reasons, Weight and Range. The thing that will kill any EV today. the Focus is not that big of a car, and for it's size it's pretty efficient with gas. EV or not, if it's going to get the Focus name then that efficiency it going to be king on the design. The problem being that if you want a car with "Mad range" you are going to need lots of batteries which effect the weight of the car massively, and I can't see Ford square that circle having jumped into the EV market as of recently. Maybe after 10 years, it would be possible, right now... no.

This is all speculations but: Ford only said they were not working on a new Focus RS, but the thing is that they always release the RS as a 'special edition' at the end of the focus line up, so if the car ever comes out is going to be in 5 years from now, of course they are not working on the car yet. Now, I still think it is possible that the car never comes, we can only hope that cars like the Mach E sell enough so Ford's average emissions are lowered, the solution is not making the RS cleaner but to sell a lot of cleaner cars in the rest of Ford's line up. (Sorry for bad english tho)

@Judge Dredd Electric propulsion will stay but it will be an upgrade to the cars, not a replacement. Battery-only cars with huge wasteful batteries barely used for 50 km per day are a technological dead end. Well, not totally, they might be good for some applications like taxis. But as a general purpose car they're useless. Cars will be hybrid or plug-in hybrid, with small but effective battery sizes and they will keep their engines. Exciting cars and sports cars will keep their engines. It may not look right now that this can be the case but it's just political posturing and techbro enthusiasm drowning out the logic and reason, only for the moment being.

@chrishoggett13754 жыл бұрын
dannyboyy31 I hate the EU for this. Especially as it targets the regular Joe who works hard and wants to treat himself. For example, I live in Belgium, both my wife and I love the Mustang. Rented some beauties via Turo in the US. Well spect GT’s even a GT350 once. Now here in Belgium I’m at the age where I can afford a car like that without hurting myself, but because of taxes we just can’t bring ourselves to buy one, here are the numbers: a nicely packaged GT is about 45000euro including VAT (purchase taxes). But then there is a registration tax of 10500euros and annual road tax of again approximately 2500euro. In other words we would pay the state 25% af the purchase price of the car, that is madness. And that is not calculating in the 21% tax already in the 45000euro sticker price. Add that together and your car is almost half taxes... Now why do I say it targets the average working man. Because the tax is based on engine displacement and CO2/km, placing the Mustang (with a V8) in the highest bracket. So a wealthy person buying a V12 Ferrari for 350000euro for example will pay the same amount of registration and road tax for a car 10 times the price.... doesn’t seem fair, does it?

Im a massive ford RS fan, this started for me way back to the mk1 escort RS, ford RS for years have always been the game changer, and by todays standards nothing has changed, the focus RS is a brilliant car like all the other focus RS's however development is expensive for ford RS when they create a new model, it would be a shame if ford don't continue with the RS models of the future, which are all legandary on and off the race circuit.

What a stupid regulation. It should be based on the cars sold because that’s how much emissions are actually put out into the atmosphere and the performance cars would make up a negligible percentage of those emissions. It’s shit like this that makes me glad that Brexit happened.
@Howling-Mad-Murdock4 жыл бұрын
Joel Bavidge But that is an impossible target to aim for. How can they develop engines and cars based on what model car, and how many, they are going to sell? They won’t know until they sell them, and that’s too late. And with or without Brexit, this still would’ve happened, because compared to the rest of the Eu we are a small market, and no one is going to develop something purely for us. That’ll apply to everything, not just cars.
@JB470004 жыл бұрын
Howling Mad Murdock well you can use sales forecast figures or limited production runs. For instance you know the Ford Fiesta is going to sell a hell of a lot more than a Ford GT. Then there’s the one my mother used to have, Bluetooth and volume broke completely, was rusting from the inside out, corroded chrome and it always seemed to be needing work doing. Once we sat at the ford dealership and a lady popped in with her new car on a tow truck, 2012 at the time and her clutch went at 2,000 miles. She swore never to buy another and so did my mother, then I pass my test and bought one with rose tinted specs on. Think I’ve learned this time now the money will be coming out of my own pocket.

@neilbowness60744 жыл бұрын
Steve Wood the mk1 focus rs was always gonna have a hard time trying to fill the boots of the escort Cossie RS and the competition it had with the scoobys and lancer evo’s that reigned supreme at the time, that’s probably the only reason it wasn’t produced in large numbers, simple lack of demand and it couldn’t compete, regardless of the diff it was a 2wd car (front wheel drive) in a segment where 4wd reigned supreme.
@intrelex93904 жыл бұрын
The Mk3 RS actually sold really good. Ford built around 35k of them, even though they didn't plan to build as many, but the car sold well and they did it. In comparison to the Mk1 and Mk2 (both less than 10k built) that's a huge step forward. I think there's more behind this emission thing and they won't tell us, imo.
@xIcarus2274 жыл бұрын
There's no way it sold poorly. The RS was sold in 8500 exemplars in 2016 + 2017 in the US alone. ~350 orders/month is absolutely not a bad number for such a niche car. If IntreLeX' 35k number is correct then that's a very healthy number of sales.

It's sad to see, I worked for Ford helping design their engines and cars. Talked to Von Gitten Jr to work on the chassis for the Mustang, made it a great drifter. I remember the same was done with Hoonigan; It was a big effort to create an ultimate car. The Ford team hired racing experts, employing new software packages, state of the art stuff just to produce the RS. Coming from engineering design I can tell you it is possible to reach nearly 0 emissions. Working on big Diesel-Electric Locomotive engines pumping out 6000 hp, the team at GE I was working with managed to drop emissions down 95% for Tier V emissions regulations. It dropped the hp to 4400 but the engine is flawless. Doing it this way gave my team a huge advantage over rival companies use of Urea to solve the problem. Here's what we did, Metallurgy is Critical! being able to simulate the heat/shock wave provides countless efficiencies Balancing the cylinders for Zero friction,(as much as possible anyway) Crankshaft, bearings, cylinder sleeves, nano-textures on surfaces. Exhaust Gas Recirculation: by using the filtered cooled down particulates from the exhaust it's possible to further combust byproducts, it also cools down the fuel/oxygen mixture for even more efficiency. Multi-piezo-electric injectors: Similar to Mazda's SkyActive-X which I also worked on,(Mazda is a Ford Subsidiary) Variable Cam Timing( Triple Profile-performance Cam), adjustable runner lengths, etc for controlled Air Pressure Speed & Load parameters. Being able to adjust Fuel/Air mixture is critical. I was working with Von Koenigsegg to develop pneumatic Exhaust/Intake Valves; This makes a Huge difference, Double power and allows the possibility to design cylinder wide valves. Variable Geometry Turbos: Obviously. Very Expensive Catalytic Converters And once you start getting to the Plasma 5000 degree ignition cylinders... well... I haven't worked with Ford in a while, but I can tell you that everyone's cash reserves got drained just getting the bulk of the vehicles to 95g/km of Co2. And everyone is Focused on Electric development... it'll be a while before the Last final developments of the combustion engine are revealed. Buy these cars, that is all I can tell you. They are all examples of an unprecedented push to modernize automotive performance. Trust me, I'm the guy that designed The Ford GT, AMG GT R, The Viper ACR, and started the Focus RS project... you're not going to see cars like these for a long time.

@jdbtracker4 жыл бұрын
@@steeldevil98 WTF... your lucky I don't have an NDA. It's a design oversight, remember where I wrote about Shock Waves & Metallurgy? It is Important! Hot spots develop on the Block. A back frequency convergence occurs in the heat & shock waves going through the block... once it gets to a crescendo... your Engines cylinder head will pop. It's a problem I spotted back in the day, a simulation of the block showed the problem, It was corrected Immediately, that block didn't last more than a year. And yes it is up to your driving, but I'm not a Ford representative and this was like Ten years ago. I designed the Ecoboost 2.7 & 3.5 along with the Coyote & Vodoo V8s. There is a limit to the boost that can be applied with OEM parts, I intentionally put limits on One key components: The Head Studs. You won't believe how important the properties of the threads on head studs & head bolts are. It's the difference between adding an extra 50hp safely to blowing your block to smithereens. If Anyone thinks adding horsepower by increasing boost is easy, Don't. Upgrade the Head bolts to Head Studs first. Head Bolts Stretch... Don't Mess Around.
